i'm trying to take like... baby steps, because i always get way too embarrassed to draw ship art in earnest, so using silly references it is (if anyone has good ones please send them my way)

How did Wiz and Alecto first meet? And when did they decide to start dating? Was it more of an immediate or a gradual thing?

oh my girls how i love them dearly... okay so not-so-short summary!!!!

this starts way back, before the r.a.d. was established (in fact, before sonno even went to sleep)

wiz is an apprentice curse-breaker, and alecto is part of an underground fight ring

the fight ring is essentially a gladiator thing - for the purposes of entertainment, often choreographed and dramatised to some degree, but the fighters can and will be killed in the ring

sometimes its demon v demon, sometimes they bring in monsters, once in a blue moon there'll be some poor human who made a deal with the wrong demon

alecto does it in part for thrills, and in part to earn some money

(this is where she and astaroth become acquainted - astaroth, at this point still very listless and finding most things boring, often went to watch the fights)

she's also one of the more popular fighters because she specialises in fighting purely physically - no magic, and also no-holds-barred, biting and scratching and slamming your opponent's head into the concrete is okay and highly encouraged

though she's starting to get kinda sick of it, because the demons in charge are increasingly making a production out of her fights, to the point where she isn't really fighting anymore, she's just putting on a play

now the ring is highly illegal - not necessarily because the fighters can get killed (because demons, with their longass lifespans, believe very strongly in being able to choose when to die), but because you need so many licenses - for the demons, the monsters, etc. (though the humans unfortunately don't get any protection under devildom law)

demons also place a lot of importance on contracts, so this way only demons prepared to lose are allowed to sign up for fights to the death. you also need to be of a certain age - they do still have a concept of "died too young"

alecto's ring does not do this, and many demons (alecto at the time included) are not old enough to be signing away their life

hence: VERY ILLEGAL UNDER DEVILDOM LAW

curse-breakers are under a larger category of "magical specialists who serve the public"

(they aren't controlled by the ruling body (sonno's court in this case) - but they're allied with the royal court by the present)

wiz's boss is part of a team asked to go in and get the ring closed down, and wiz is along for the ride to get some experience on the field

they bust one of alecto's matches, and alecto (high on the adrenaline of the match, and eager to actually get into combat that isn't pre-determined to give her the most flamboyant win possible) promptly starts attacking everyone

the caveat of everyone being a magical specialist is that none of them are used to close-range combat, and they're all used to being able to either negotiate or neutralise with magic without having to get violent

however alecto has built up significant resistance to standard defensive magic, so it throws them all off when they're initially unable to de-escalate

basically imagine a group of firefighters being set upon by an on-fire polar bear who's immune to tranquilisers and water

wiz, who hasn't had time to fully specialise into a magical field and therefore didn't fall into the automatic pacifist scholar approach, steps in at this point

in short: alecto gets a good few blows in, but ultimately wiz wipes the floor with her

immune to many standard hexes? no problem, she'll use these definitely-should-be-illegal ones that she's been learning on the sly

the demons who run the ring get arrested, but most of the fighters just get reprimanded and/or fined - apart from alecto, who was also arrested

wiz decides to meet her (after she wakes up from being magicked to shreds) and is very guilty about the use of the awful hexes, but alecto is just delighted to have had her fighting spirit reinvigorated

they're really only tentative friends for a while after that, because alecto has to, you know. face the consequences of beating the shit out of fifteen odd demons who were very valued members of the public

she basically ends up like a good-natured teenager in community service who isn't really sorry for what they did, but didn't do it maliciously in the first place, and they're so helpful and friendly that you kind of forget what those fists are capable of

wiz happens to stop by while she's helping with the construction of some new public building, and is also there to watch when a giant hunk of rock falls on her

and she is a little bewildered by just how badly she reacts to it, and why she insists on being the one to heal her after they get the rock off

alecto is fine! well, not really, but there's no permanent damage, and she will now gloat about how she "won a fight with a big fucking boulder" even though she very much did not win

wiz thinks she's insane but also thinks it's pretty hot

also they're best friends now (alecto decided)

there isn't really a set moment where one of them goes "hey do you want to be together. like romantically" it just sort of happens over time

like a century later alecto looks up from the morning paper in their shared kitchen in their shared house where they both take care of wiz's extensive plant collection together, and goes "hey are we dating"

and wiz goes "um. i think so?"

and wiz is the smartest demon alecto knows, so she nods sagely like "great!"

somehow neither of them think to go "we waltz in the garden at two in the morning and spend each morning gazing lovingly into each other's eyes and have done so for several decades. maybe we are and have been in a very dedicated relationship for a while now"

Which couple is the silliest?

Silliest with each other or seemingly silly to others

answering these in tandem bc they're shorter responses

silliest with each other: wiz and alecto, definitely - they've been together for the longest and are completely in sync with each other, and they're both a little crazy in very specific ways which, behind closed doors, mesh into something completely incomprehensible to the average outsider

silliest to everyone else: solomon and mephisto, because they settle into a silly banter-maybe-flirt routine while they're still having a song-and-dance over avoiding actually sitting down and talking to each other, and everyone else thinks it's ridiculous

double dates: everyone in the newspaper club, probably! they hang out with each other all the time, might as well make a big date out of it

Hello hello, sorry if its a dumb question but, is Solphisto canon to JTTA in the same way that Belpheroth is/will be?

(Also anon who dubbed them yuri is so right, I can't see them differently now)

don't worry, it's not a dumb question at all!! the lines can be kind of blurred between what happens in the actual fic and all the stuff we talk about here...

so, statuses of all our significant couples:

wizlecto: together and married in all ways except legally in every universe forever. i WILL one day write something that gives you more details on their story (probably in the newspaper club chapter of that jtta after-story minific)

belpheroth: canon to jtta in that i do have concrete plans to develop their relationship in that direction; also do end up courting each other in the aus where they're acquainted (established relationship in the infernal friends au)

zhaolu: canon to ddvd, also canon to aus where zhao has a significant presence (e.g. infernal friends, rpg). probably WILL end up happening in the classic jtta at this point - tentative plans to start off their development in the mini-fic, might end up doing something extended later

solphisto: established in that i sort of operate on them being a thing when it comes to asks, canon to aus where both characters are involved (mostly just rpg au rn) - in terms of within jtta itself, still debating whether or not to get the ball rolling in-fic (like with belpheroth) or to wait til the post-story (as with zhaolu)

aunt lisa and thirteen: still just a concept at this point but i do want to think more about them

good question!!

ik: honestly you'd be lucky if she even changed it from the default one. perhaps a blurry photo of alatus, or a bad selfie mammon took and set as her pfp as a joke, which ik didn't notice and just left there forever

mephisto: most recently it has been a selfie taken between two mirrors so there's a cool illusion effect, but in past it has generally been EXTREME close-ups on various parts of his face (and not in a cool/aesthetic way)

astaroth: a photo he took of his favourite constellation, and it's been his pfp ever since he made his account

wiz: changes it often - usually either a very nice picture of herself (taken by alecto), or of her latest experimental concoctions and devices. occasionally it will change to an explosion to reflect how said experiments have turned out

alecto: for a while it was a very cool picture wiz took of her right after winning a boxing match. however lately she's begun cycling through various images in this genre:

So um,,,, can we get Belphie x Astaroth headcanons??? Or Wiz x Alecto headcanons???

we can have BOTH!! considering jtta doesn't focus much on ships (because ik hardly pays attention to these things, and also doesn't know wizlecto super well - plus, in belpheroth's case, they haven't gotten together yet) i think we deserve it

(i'm just doing miscellaneous established-relationship stuff for belpheroth (which would be significantly post-jtta), since i'd be spoiling future chapters of jtta if i got into their actual backstory and stuff)

belpheroth:

astaroth regularly calls belphie in the middle of the night, and it's usually for one of two reasons: 1. he's in his feels about some music, or 2. there's some kind of even slightly unusual phenomenon going on with the stars right now

sometimes belphie is awake anyway, sometimes he's asleep - even if he is asleep, though, somehow the sound of astaroth's custom ringtone always wakes him up within ten seconds. it's one of the few things that'll wake him up when he's dead asleep

mostly astaroth calls belphie 'belph', but he'll call him 'star' when they're alone and it makes belphie absolutely melt

now he wants to give astaroth a similar pet name but he can't figure out one that doesn't make him cringe to say, so for now he still mostly calls him 'roth' - but he wants to figure out a special one someday, because most of astaroth's friends also call him that

sometimes astaroth lets belphie pick him up, which is one HELL of a privilege with him - he prefers not to be touched too much, and he generally just doesn't like the feeling of being helpless while someone's carrying him

and he doesn't need anyone's assistance to get around, so it's not a necessity, which means it barely ever happens. belphie is an exception though

belphie asks beel to help him do some muscle training so that he can carry astaroth for longer because, as it stands, he can only really lift him for long enough to transfer him from wheelchair to bed (while astaroth affectionately makes fun of him and is going "i can do it myself you know" the whole time)

near the beginning of them becoming serious, belphie starts getting astaroth to hang out with beel regularly, because if his twin doesn't get along with his boyfriend he's going to have a serious dilemma

luckily astaroth can make a mean pie, which is enough to get him in beel's good books - but tbh beel would've liked him anyway because he makes belphie happy

mephisto sees astaroth with his hair down regularly, and has allegedly touched it, but belphie is the first demon that astaroth lets brush and style his hair for him

except belphie has no idea how to, so now he has to go to asmo for help as well

they take it in turns going to each other's places to stargaze- either with astaroth's special telescope, or in the house of lamentation's observatory, and usually whoever's visiting the other sleeps over

in the house of lamentation, they usually stay in the observatory to sleep because belphie finds it a bit embarrassing to be sharing the bed with his bf in the same room as his brother

sometimes belphie gets a little jealous of mephisto because 1. he lives with astaroth, and 2. he's still astaroth's best friend, and has been for a lot longer than belphie's even known him

but it's okay because he's astaroth's one and only, which roth told him one time half-jokingly, but even so belphie internalised the moment and remembers it whenever he feels down

sometimes at night, belphie gets up real close to astaroth's face and tries to count his barely-visible freckles - one time astaroth woke up while he was doing this and was thoroughly confused, but gave him a kiss because he thought that that was what he wanted. and belphie still doesn't know why but it almost made him cry

wizlecto:

alecto is chaotic and wiz is just her chaos enabler - they simultaneously match and balance each other's energy perfectly

they both just adore each other so so much, they genuinely consider each other soulmates - they've been together for centuries before jtta even begins,

alecto is significantly shorter than wiz (who's already very tall and wears heeled boots that make her even taller), but she's all lean muscle and is very strong, so she can very easily sweep wiz off her feet

alecto gets into a lot of fights, and the injuries she gets from a lot of opponents just get healed over without a trace... but what about all those visible scars she has, and the constant bandages and plasters she's wearing??

basically, alecto's philosophy is this: if her opponent was someone she fought for the sake of a good fight/who picked a fight with her for what she perceives as a good reason, and said opponent put up a good fight, she leaves any injury they give her to heal over naturally - which still happens relatively quickly, but also will leave behind visible scars if it was a wound deep enough

whereas if her opponent pulled dirty tricks/was someone she fought because they genuinely pissed her off, she'll get wiz to heal her injuries up, which leaves no marks behind no matter how severe the injury

(alecto remembers the story behind every one of the scars she retains - as does wiz - and she's still acquainted with a lot of the demons who gave them to her)

anyway, the wizlecto point here: there's a big burn scar on alecto's neck, and she got that from wiz when they first met - and alecto picked a fight with her

wiz often asks alecto if she wants the scar healed over, but alecto always refuses, because, and i quote, "it reminds me that you can beat my ass easily, and that's pretty hot"

granted, wiz would lose in a physical fight, but alecto still finds her magical ass-kicking ability hot - which is a big difference with other demons, whose magical battle skills are usually very boring to her

alecto usually calls wiz either by name or babe, while wiz usually uses either 'lecto', 'sweetheart', or 'love'

they live together, of course, and wiz has filled most of the house with half-sentient devildom plants - alecto makes a point to be acquainted with all of them

wiz is very verbally affectionate - she's always telling alecto she loves her, she finds it very easily to tell her that she's made her happy with something, or that she really loves this particular thing she does, etc.

alecto, on the other hand, finds it difficult to put her feelings into words, so her love language is more acts of service

to make up for her inability to say them out loud, she'll regularly take the time to sit down and scribble out all of her feelings in a sort-of letter, and then eventually she'll give it to wiz

wiz reads every letter word-for-word and keeps them carefully stored, tied with a green ribbon, in a special little box - they're some of her most treasured possessions

neither are a massive fan of pda, so they usually stick to just hand-holding and cheek/nose kisses in public, but occasionally they just wanna kiss (understandable), so alecto will pull down wiz's hat to hide their faces so that they can
