Days at the Office: Child

(DONT SKIP OVER THIS ONE, FOLKS.)

“Hey Dark?”

“Hm?”

“Do you like kids?”

What a silly question, he could respond. Of course he doesn't like children. He doesn’t like anybody.

But the tone in Eris’s voice makes him pause.

He looks down at her, their fingers intertwined. Her eyes are fixed on a group of children playing soccer in a field nearby. Their shadows dance along the ground, long and stark in the waning sunlight.

The two have just returned from an “outing”, and in the joyous rush of a successful hunt Eris requested a walk in the park. They’ve paused to sit on a bench in the private shadows of a large tree.

Eris is cuddled up against him. In a good mood, he allows it.

“Dark?” she presses.

He hums in acknowledgement. “Children can be…”

Nuisances, he’s about to say. Annoyances. Necessary but something to avoid.

But for some reason, he stops. Is frozen in his tracks as a swell fills his chest.

A child.

My child.

“They are… necessary,” he begins. He clears his throat to disguise the strain in his voice.

Eris’s eyes widen, but she quickly looks down.

Dark frowns.

Spawn. Offspring. Infant. Minor.

Descendant.

“I have no opinion,” he forces out.

Eris glances up at him, looking through her long, pale eyelashes. “You sure?” she offers. Her voice low and coaxing.

Attempting to manipulate him. His shoulders relax and he almost grins.

“Yes, darling. I’m sure.”

He isn’t upset. Rather, he is...perplexed.

Child. Why does that word make him feel… something?

Child. Daughter. Son.

My son.

“I think I like children.” Eris shifts, laying her head on his shoulder.

“Is that so.”

“Mmhm.” She grins up at him. “Tiny demons wreaking havoc. Doesn’t that sound fun?”

He raises an amused eyebrow but doesn’t respond, and she doesn't expect him to.

She rattles on about other things and he listens lazily.

Still, the word rolls around and around in his empty shell of a body. Were he paying better attention he might be disturbed by the things it whispered.

Child.

My child.

My offspring.

My descendant.

My legacy.

My child.

Intro to Eris

This is for people who don’t know who Eris is, or who just want to know a little more about her!

First off, HERE IS HER BLOG! Go follow her and ask her questions! She posts things sometimes!

Eris is a demonic entity similar to Darkiplier. Most people, including herself, don’t know where she came from. She has no memory of her life before Darkiplier found her, and now lives with him and the other egos in the Vaguely Described Office Building.

Technically, she and Dark are an item, but she's been known to ignore this fact in favor of the other egos' attentions.

Eris spends her time helping Darkiplier recruit new egos and eliminate obsolete ones (that's her favorite part). Her weapon of choice is her purple-bedazzled hatchet, although she's not afraid to use her bare hands if the situation calls for it.

She also usually wears Dark's shirts instead of the ones he bought her.

Her relationships with each ego are currently as follows:

Darkiplier

Eris adores Darkiplier and is very much dependant on him. They are officially an "item" and he is extremely possessive of her. This doesn't deter her from flirting with the other egos, however.

Wilford Warfstache

Eris and Wilford are very much sweet on each other, and often act like a couple. This enrages Darkiplier, but he's incapable of causing any harm to Wilford, so Eris bears the brunt of his jealousy.

Google (Blue)

Google hates Eris, partly because she's (arguably) human, and partly because she goes out of her way to tease and mock him. The hatred is mutual, but it seems both parties find some form of entertainment in their fights. Usually another ego will step in before there's bloodshed.

Googles (Green, Red, and Yellow/Oliver)

Eris tends to ignore the other three googles, mostly because they ignore her. Oliver is the most daring of the three, and so he butts heads with her more often than the others.

Bing

Bing is Eris' best friend! They play video games together and play pranks on the other egos regularly. Bing has tried to teach Eris how to skateboard… but she's honestly no better than him at it.

The Host

Eris is extremely fond of the Host. He's so mysterious! However, he's grudgingly acknowledged her presence and that's it. She's determined to get more out of him, but it's slow going. It doesn't help that he can bend reality to his will.

Dr. Iplier

Eris has thrown fits in Dr. Iplier's office before, often unable to handle his complete apathy toward any of her problems. They've sorted themselves out for the most part, which is a good thing, because Eris's love of confrontation sends her into his office more than she'd care to admit.

The Jim Twins

The Jims refuse to leave Eris alone if not distracted by something else. She hates how they get in her face, making ridiculous comments into a microphone and camera. They honestly just find her interesting, but she drives them away as often as she can. Darkiplier corrupts any film they have of her, but that doesn't deter them much.

Bim Trimmer

Eris almost went onto Bim's game show when they first met, but Darkiplier sabotaged the set, rendering it unplayable. Bim was put out, but after a nice lunch of hamburgers and fries, they've become mostly amicable. Eris tries not to think about what was in that burger, though.

Silver Shepherd

Shepherd tries to avoid Eris as much as possible, which makes her even more determined to pursue him. He's managed to skirt around her advances so far, but he doesn't care for her too much. She thinks he's adorable.

Ed Edgar

When Eris expressed her complete lack of a desire for infants, Edgar was miffed. He warmed to her when she helped him sell a few, though. They enjoy sharing a bottle of whiskey around a campfire every so often.

Yandere

Eris avoids Yandere now, after that fateful first encounter. He scares her.

King of the Squirrels

They nod respectfully when they pass by each other. King is the only ego that Eris has not tried to flirt with.
