During Miami Music Week 2018, Winter Music Conference returned to sunny South Beach for the 33rd edition of the conference. Some of the guys headed down to the Faena Forum to attend the show and we wanted to share our thoughts on this edition of WMC.
We saw a lot of great panels filled with some notable names and some industry experts. Covering a broad range of topics, these panels were the focus of the conference. Particularly the PR and artist panels were really very insightful. We also learned a lot of new things from radio and licensing that we didn’t know as well.
A lot of the conference certainly felt kinda like a lot of attendees were just smaller artists, DJs, and producers trying to get attention for their stuff. A lot of it felt like these guys were just thirsty for attention hoping to make a name for themselves. There was even a manager with his artists which were two guys dressed in space monkey costumes. Despite the obvious people who were simply unprofessional trying to get their names out there, there were many good and hardworking people we met there. There were certainly some great artists with lots of potential and many more friends we met.
One highlight of the day was the networking portion of the event after the artist chat. The artists (EDX, Fedde Le Grand, and Nora En Pure) would share their amazing insights and then everybody would head over to the Faena for an open bar with an amazing DJ. In addition we found out our delegate passes would get us access to a bunch of parties that were at partner venues. We saw some incredible shows like the DJ Mag pool party session and All Gone Pete Tong.
Overall we’d recommend going to WMC, you will definitely learn something meet somebody or at least have a good time at the parties. Outside of the actual conference the week is something of a party lovers paradise. Every venue has shows pretty much every day of the week and sometimes doubling down during the weekend.
During the week we also heard the news WMC was being acquired by Ultra Music. This acquisition will hopefully solidify the future for the conference as a leading industry event in music as a whole.
We want to give a big shoutout to all the people who put on a great conference, the panelists, and all the other delegates we met.
Keep an eye out for our recap video and other clips dropping on YouTube and Instagram soon.
