“Seems the Joker’s at it again, huh? Must be hell for all the people who were affected. You know anyone who got caught up in the blast?” Ela took a sip from her glass, looking over the rim at the person sitting across from her.

As Tommy looked out over the destruction of the square, he let out a small sigh. Jumping down into the dust and rubble that had seemingly enveloped the area, he looked around for the particular store he’d been asked to loot. It felt a little rough, stealing from a place that had just been torn apart, but the explosion gave him the perfect cover. He’d get in, get what he needed, and get out.
After searching for a few minutes, he found what he was looking for. Al’s Pawn Emporium. He let out a laugh as he made his way through the damaged door, and slowly crept to the back. Climbing over the counter, he knelt to the floor and looked for the safe that was supposedly kept underneath the cash register. Slipping his phone out his belt, he attached a cord to the tumbler and let the app do the work. He was just about to say how easy it was, when he heard a voice from the other side of the counter.
Standing up, he turned to face them. “Can I help you? I’m a little busy,”
Upon regaining consciousness, a sharp sting was felt. Not in any specific spot —— the unwavering pain seemed to be all throughout. She remained in a groggy state, undoubtedly due to the morphine coursing about her veins. There was continuous beeping, not similar to the annoying whine of an alarm clock; they were paced out, one, two, three, BEEP, gentle and soft on ears. When Nerezza attempted to first open her eyes the bright interior was anything but welcoming on her eyes, leaving her momentarily unable to see. An inaudible word soon followed as she lifted a hand to examine her body. She came to the realization that she suffered various bone fractures and third degree burns. ‘ Fucking hell, ’ she said with a frown. ' Hey! Would you mind telling me what happened? Please? I can’t remember anything. ’
Ruin & Rubble.
So much for the job Emery had been in the middle of. Part of the building he’d been in was within the blast radius of a massive explosion that had suddenly gone off. Most of it had collapsed in on itself, killing numerous people and trapping dozens more. Thankfully Em managed to dig himself out and seemingly sustained only minor injuries. Other than some gashes on his face and hands and what was probably a bruised rib or two, he appeared to be fine. Stumbling out of what little remained of the building and amidst the rubble of the ruined square, he could hardly believe the destruction that surrounded him. “What the hell happened?” There were people scattered everywhere - people injured, people dead, people helping others. Emery had no clue what to do.
Apart from a lot of smoke, a burning, ripping sensation and the eardrum shattering boom of an explosion, Amelia had no recollection of what had happened at Gotham Square. She had heard the nurses talking about a bomb in passing, the Joker’s name was mentioned once or twice, but no one had time to stop and explain.
The entire right side of her body was covered in burns. Third-degree. The lesions licked up the side of her neck, reaching as high as her cheekbone and she was pretty sure she was missing an eyebrow. They snaked around part of her abdomen and only left a third of her back unmarred. Even now that they were hidden under fresh bandages, Amelia could still see fleeting images of the bloody mess painted across the backs of her eyelids.
“You know, I’d probably be more upset if I didn’t know that this is gonna heal in about the same time as a bad sunburn.” Amelia informed the bowl of soup on the tray to her right. The nurse had left it there after she had failed to get the bed-ridden girl’s attention for a little over thirty minutes. Giving it a dazed grin, she lazily wrapped the tube of the morphine drip around her bandaged hand. “Or if I wasn’t this ridiculously drugged up.” Apparently not only the effects of alcohol wore off much faster than they did with the average human being, the same was true for pain killers and sedatives. They had to keep the dosage high to prevent the young Goodwill from shouting the house down, in spite of the excessive nerve damage she had sustained.
Elemiah sat at the crowded bar, trying unsuccessfully to get the attention of the bartender. After he passed her by a fifth time, she sat back in her chair, rolling her eyes..
“Jeez, what’s a girl gotta do to get a drink around here?”
Connor groaned softly, rolling over and let out a muffled cry of pain. Broken ribs. Taste of iron. It certainly felt like he had been hit by something, someone, and a lot but he was none the wiser. All he knew was that it was raining lightly, it was dark, and as he sat up slowly he realized someone was coming towards him. “Back to finish the job?” He wanted to sound stronger than he felt, but he doubted it came off that way through spitting blood and shaking from the cold.
Dr. Knight heard the angry howls before he turned the corner.
Curiously, he turned his head and looked at where the noise was coming from, and saw a drunken man waving his bottle angrily at a hunched figure on the floor. The doctor shook his head in disappointment. Striding casually to the man, Dr. Knight ripped the bottle from his hand and before the man knew could fully turn around, the doctor slammed the bottle hastily across the other man’s head.
Without paying much attention to the fallen figure or the shards of broken glass, Dr. Knight reached a hand out to the person on the floor. “Are you alright?”
