*Wolfsbrunnen-anlage was built in 16th century as hunting lodge and turned a popular tourist destination by 19th century. Both of this one and #Heidelberg castle, probably first built in the beginning of 13th century carry long and colourful history. On the other hand, the witch Jetta is a mythical figure, the stories of whom are popular. The hill near Heidelberg, on which the famous medieval castle stands today, was alternatively called the Jetten hill. An old woman, a soothsayer named Jetta lived there in a Chapel. Even the remains of the chapel can still be seen there. As the Count Palatine Friedrich became elector, he built a beautiful castle in 1544. The aesthetically built hunting and pleasure lodge was called the New sanctuary. Though widely famous for her fortune-telling, Jetta rarely came outside her chapel. As people asked her about future, she gave the answer through a window without being seen. Among other things, she proclaimed in some strange verses that the fate of the hill is already decided. In future it would be inhabited, honored and adorned by royal men. She had even foretold the names of the royals who later lived there. She had also told that the valley below would be occupied by a large number of people someday. There is a heartrending story about Jetta. Once on a beautiful sunny day, she left the chapel to take a leisurely walk towards the fountain located at the foot of the Geiรberg near the village of Schlรผrbach, half an hour from Heidelberg.ย The dense forest covering the mossy ground enchanted her as she walked on. Reaching the fountain, the tired lady wanted to drink the cool water to refresh her spirit. But as soon as she knelt down, a hungry wolf with cubs stormed out of the bushes, attacked her and torn her into pieces. To commemorate this unfortunate incident, the fountain was renamed as #Wolfsbrunnen. An arched corridor under the earth nearby is called #Heidenloch by the locals. #folktale #legend #jetta #germany #german #grimm #sagen #chapel #wolfattack #fortunetelling #soothsayer #medieval #medievalfantasy #europetravel #europe #wolfsbrunnen #wolfsbrunnenanlage https://www.instagram.com/p/CfSpbFmJV4P/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
