wolfsbane highlights - tyler hoechlin!

OKAY. Last but obviously not least. This is gonna be a looooong read, y’all, so make some tea or whatever. Obviously Hoechlin was like, 85% of the reason I went. And I made it to the M+G!!, and both panels!!, but only the Sunday lounge. They forbade filming really strictly so I didn’t try, but I ummmm did record some audio, just so I could do the transcripts. I do not have the energy to type it out as exactly as last time, but basically this is everything that he said during that weekend!

Highlights include - talking about his butt, him speaking foreign languages!!, and making fun of Derek’s life...

M+G

- It was really short, like about 5-ish minutes with each guest? Anyway, when he got to our table he did a quick intro, “Hi, I’m Tyler!” - OMG WE KNOW!! This adorkable fellow. - and shook hands with all of us while we introduced ourselves. He admitted he probably wouldn’t remember them cause he’s bad with names. He asked where everyone was from, and if it was our first con.

- Already mentioned but - he had to shave twice a day, everyday for his role on Supergirl, and he is so happy to be able to rebel now and let it all grow out, it had been about 2 weeks (it was like perfect scruff, and had the greys and all!!).

- We talked about what he did for his birthday, he said it was pretty chill, just hung on the beach with friends. He was trying to recall, and jokingly said it’s the age thing, he can’t remember as well, I said (also a joke!) that maybe he couldn’t remember cause he was drunk, and he was like ‘No! That’s the thing about getting older, I don’t get too drunk anymore.’

Day 1 Panel

- His first suggestion for how the show should end was “Everybody dies.” LOL. Then said, “I dont know, they’ve been through a lot.” Said he’d like to see them all ride off into the sunset, and that he’d like to see it end on a note of what’s next for the people.

- He misses the people the most from TW. Mentioned Posey and Dylan!

- He does think Papa Hale was a werewolf, says they did focus on the mother-son relationship but he thinks Derek was close with his dad and it left a strong impression, and he got a lot of qualities from a strong father-son relationship.

- Most difficult scene to shoot was the water fight scene in Derek’s loft.

- His experience on Supergirl was just “good, pure fun”. Said he’d get so caught up watching Melissa Benoist acting as Kara that he almost forgot he was supposed to be acting. Then said, “I’m excited to get to see it. Hopefully you all like it, if not...send me mean tweets!”

- Someone asked about the Stiles/Derek relationship (haha everyone in the audience went “NOOO” / “UGH”), he said “No, I love their relationship!” Went on to compare them to Diego/Sid from Ice Age and said he always loved working with DOB and credits him for now being able to keep a straight face.

- He wouldn’t really change anything about Derek or his story arc; he actually liked the growth as a person.

- Said he’s learnt a lot about fandom from being on TW, and said it feels weird that he’s now kind of a veteran dealing with genre shows and cons, but it’s definitely a learning experience and lots of fun.

- If he could change a Derek storyline, he would probably have tried not to get his pack killed. But then went on to say that was probably part of Derek’s character growth. Said he misses Gage, Sinqua, and Daniel, said he wishes he “could have kept them alive, or at least in the country longer...”

- When asked if it was good to finally win a fight as Superman, said “Who said I won a fight?” but acknowledged it was nice to have an upper hand, spoilers. Then said he identifies more with Clark Kent, doesn’t know what it would say about him if he said ‘Superman’. Said there are definitely elements of Clark that he understands, so it was fun to play him.

- Mentioned the Shelley incident when asked what was his most embarrassing moment on set. Said he blushed really badly and ran out. “Hi I’m Tyler, nice to meet you, this is not how I usually greet everyone...”

- If Derek had a spin-off, he’d want to take everyone, when told he can’t, he was like “What? WHY?” -‘Because it’s a spin off.’- “SO?” Refuses cause he wants Posey along. Then thinks of the possible titles. “My Sad Life? It gets better? It’ll get better. Beyond the horizon, there will be sunshine.”

- Fictional character he would most like to have lunch with is Jack Sparrow. Then also suggested Thomas Shelby from Peaky Blinders. “Okay, so like 3 people here know what I’m talking about...”

- Said he didn’t originally know he was going to talk to the producers about the Superman role, he just knew it was to do with the show and when they asked him if he’d be interested he said yeah!

- The way he approaches characters is by finding how they relate to people around them; said he personally behaves a bit differently with different friend groups, so that’s what he starts with.

- Favourite TW scene was the lighter scene with Argent, “mainly because I got to put (the lighter) so close to JR’s face. Really fun.”

- Of all the characters he’d like to go back to, he’d probably choose McReynolds from EWS.

- Favourite Marvel character is Iron Man because of RDJ. Would prefer to play a villain cause they’re so fun and there’s more freedom.

- Favourite Disney character is Jack Sparrow. Talks about how he keeps pitching to be Jack’s illegitimate son, and how if they create that character without giving it to him he’ll be so pissed. Said he’d totally do the hat and eyeliner, everything.

- About the EWS camp, said that part of Rick’s plan was, besides the practice, was to try and weed out whoever didn’t get along with the others, but in the end they really all did get super close. Said it was a very selfless group of guys.

- If he had the opportunity to join an existing show, it would be Peaky Blinders cause he loves the whole 1910s-1930s era, and he thinks the acting and storytelling on the show is so good. “I would say GoT but at this point I know it’s not happening.” (Crowd goes awwww.) “Oh it’s fine, I’ll be okay.”

- Favourite line from Derek is “Aren’t you supposed to be at school?” to Scott. Said he liked when Derek got to have a bit of fun and be sarcastic. Then said the line he said to Peter about not talking behind his back. (“We don’t like you, now shut up and help us.”) Then brought up the scene with Derek, Stiles, and Peter with the bank-vault-heist-planning, and the punching through the wall.

- Most embarrassing audition is “when I had to sing. I sang for an audition once, and uh... I didn’t do the movie obviously, that tells you how that went. I was really upset with myself because I’d actually done it really well at home. I had sang it for people who can actually sing and they were like ‘yeah it’s good, it’s good’, so I was pretty happy, like ‘I can do this, I can do this.’ and then I went to do it but I got really short of breath, I couldn’t get my breathing right, so I got to the end of it and said ‘Look, I can try to do it again, better, but I don’t know if you want to sit through that again?’ and I knew I didn’t want to do that again, and they were like ‘We’re good.’ so that was it.”

- He would absolutely go back to Scotland, he loved Edinburgh and said it’s the closest he’s been to a magical city. Said the first day he got in on a train, he’d meant to take it easy but when he arrived it was sunset, so he immediately checked in and then ran out with his camera to take photos.

- If he had to cast one of the TW girls as his Lois Lane, it would probably be Crystal or Shelley.

- Someone asked how he felt about the last episode of GoT, he just sighed. Then went on to talk about his theory about Jon Snow being Robert’s son. (Sorry I know nothing about GoT so I don’t know who the characters are??)

Day 2 Panel

- Talking about the Superman stills, and someone told him Ian said there was no way it was Tyler’s butt. “Of course he did.” But insists that “First of all, I did not Kardashian it, no. But one thing you need to know is Ian is a manipulative liar. So. I don’t believe anything Ian says.”

- Favourite Disney movie is PotC. Then said for old-school, he liked the first Toy Story, and most recently is Star Wars: TFA.

- Funniest story about living with Posey and DOB (besides the Christmas tree) - “Stupid little things, like we would scare each other all the time - well I would scare them, they never scared me.” Then talked about DOB having an electronic drum kit with the rubber pads and how it would be really funny to see him jamming on it cause Dylan would obviously be hearing the music but all Tyler saw and heard was him hitting the rubber pads with no noise. (Did the imitation, it was cute.)

- If he, Ian, and DOB had to live together, “Me, Ian, and Dylan? Oh God.” Then, “I have no idea, I don’t think Ian could be in the same room as me for that long.” Said it would be chaos; it would be fun if they were competing about something, but otherwise they’d get sick of each other. “But we’d have some fun. Probably get into some trouble. We’d probably die.”

- Went through all the ways that his name was mis-pronounced. “Some of them made no sense at all.”

- Said he hasn’t watched S5 of TW because he’d been working and hasn’t had time to catch up. Said he thinks Scott had a rough time “because Derek wasn’t there to go through the rough patch”.

- Told someone to swallow their gum when they were choking on it. “It doesn’t stay in your stomach! Sorry to all the parents. My dad finally told me that last year, when I’m almost 30.”

- This was the moment that he took off his hat when trying to think, and everyone freaked out, and he looked up - “What happened? I took my hat off? Sorry, it’s out of control right now. It’s in between jobs! It can’t be seen right now. It’s prep time.”

- Said - knock on wood - that he hasn’t broken anything on a set yet. Talked about driving very close to the camera, then hitting baseballs near cameras. Said in EWS, for the ‘freshman batting practice’ scene, the cameras were on a track going back and forth, “I remember thinking these were some of the bravest cameramen I’ve ever worked with, cause some of us were very good at hitting, but some of us were not...”

- The advice Derek would give to Michael Jr is to let go and not to dwell.

- He thinks Derek is off on a ranch somewhere and has moved on after mentoring Scott. Said Braeden returning without him throws off his theory a bit, but then said, “Ask Braeden. I don’t know. She didn’t tell me she was coming back. Guess there was trouble at home. Oh well. Derek’s alone again.”

- There isn’t really anything he’s had to do that he wishes he didn’t. “The specific diets, sometimes get a little old, but at the end of the day I do feel better when I’m on them, so...I do wish I could eat pizza, but I can’t...you do get used to it eventually.”

- Talked about a moment on set with Daniel, when Isaac was unconscious in the puddle, and Derek had to run up to him. Tyler tried really hard not to splash him, but in one take he stepped right into a puddle next to his face, and Daniel went “Oh God” even though he was supposed to be unconscious.

- Tells the Christmas tree story - “I bought a Christmas tree for our apartment. Long story short, the Christmas tree was very innocent...Dylan changed that. There was a dance party at our house and Dylan decided the tree was his partner. This was specifically after I had asked like ‘guys, you can do whatever you want, please just don’t destroy the tree’, and Dylan decided to do that in a multitude of ways. So yeah...the tree was never the same after that. If that doesn’t explain it to you then I don’t know what will. That was the end of that tree. It had a good life.”

- Does an impression of Ian - “If I volunteered to make dinner, and I asked him how it was, he’d be like, ‘It’s good. I’m not in love with it, but it’s good. I don’t hate it but I’m not in love with it.’ That’s his go-to.”

- If Superman met Derek, “I feel like if they got into a fight, Superman would be like, ‘Awww, no. No. That’s cute, but no.’ But I’m sure Derek would be a massive Superman fan so I’m sure he’d probably geek out a bit. But yeah, I think Superman would probably take him under his wing a bit. He’s a trouble soul and Superman would have some sympathy and empathy for Derek, they both lost their families so they’d have a lot to talk about. I think they would actually get along quite well, after Superman reminded him that he’s never going to beat him at anything.”

- Favourite city he’s visited: He loves London, it reminds him of NYC but even more history, Rome “to sit and eat a pizza and look over and see a building that’s 4000 years old...”, Switzerland’s landscapes are gorgeous. Places he’d like to go: Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, Croatia, Slovenia. Says there’s a long list of places he wants to go.

- About trying to fly as Superman, “I hope when you see it, it doesn’t look like I’m trying.” Said it was a lot of work but really fun, surreal experience.

- Talked about how he did LASIK when he was younger “for baseball, I did everything for baseball.” He doesn’t wear contacts, only wears his glasses when he’s driving or at night. They went through 7 or 8 frames for Clark Kent, before they all went ‘yes, that’s Clark’, but it was by props, though he had brought his own glasses just in case.

- He took full pride in the EWS outfit; his most embarrassing outfit was a Halloween skeleton costume as a kid.

- Wouldn’t disclose what he would choose as his songs for Lip Sync Battle cause he’s paranoid about someone stealing it in case he ever gets on the show. He’s already got the choreography planned out, “I’m not letting aaaaaanyone take that song away from me.”

- “When you say ‘stolen’ it sounds so bad. I’ve taken things. With slight permission.” He tries to take one thing to remember each character (besides Superman), he’s got a jacket, some shoes. He has a cast he wore that his nieces on the show had signed. He got to keep the ball he split in half from EWS.

- I asked what languages he spoke, or would like to learn and he said, “Espanol, Francais, Italiano...” then went on to say, “I speak muy pequito Espanol...Yo hablo muy pequito Espanol. Yo parlo un poco Italiano. And um...je parle un peu francais.” (IT WAS SERIOUSLY CUTE YOU GUYS. And also hot. His accents are pretty decent! I’ll try to post an audio clip.) Anyway, then he said that’s about as much as he can say in those languages, but he would love to be able to speak at least those three, and he’s disappointed in himself for not making more progress. Says his kids will hate him cause they will speak all that and more. Someone brought up Irish, and he was like “You can speak Irish??” then said okay, true, half the time he doesn’t understand when Irish people speak, same with Scottish (”Different language man, I don’t get it.”) Someone else mentioned Welsh (and that there are two dialects), and he was like “That’s another one?? Omg. That’s too much. Okay, I'll never be able to live in the UK, I gotta speak like 5 languages to live here.”

- Says Dominic Cooper is his British version of Ian, the way he hangs out with Ian is the same as he does with Dominic, just on a different continent. Said he’s a great guy, they did very physically demanding stuff, and Dominic never complained about it. Said he had an absolute blast working with him. They do keep in touch, and try to meet up when they are in each other’s countries.

- Talked about how he didn’t want to watch the Cavill Superman, so that he can’t compare himself with it. Especially since the Supergirl world is so different in tone than the movies. Said he knows he can’t make everybody happy and some people will say he’s the worst Superman ever, but it’s totally fine.

- His spirit animal is a wolf, after studying them for the show, cause there’s a lot of characteristics that fit.

There wasn’t a lot of useable stuff from the lounge, but he did talk about being happy to grow out his beard: “Feels so much better. Even though I’m scratching it a lot more, but it’s better than the burn.” Someone said he should cover the grey (OMG I SWEAR I WAS SO MAD LIKE WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT) but luckily he was like “No, no.” He said he’s competing with JR, and also needs to make Ian feel better.

There was also discussion about the Superman butt - “My buddy did a very very bad photoshop job with a Starbucks coffee on it....oh Ryan.” Then someone told him about JR doing charades (”That’s Tyler Hoechlin’s booty!”), and he said “I’ve gotten more press on that photo than I’ve ever gotten. I got more texts about that photo than any other photo that’s been taken of me.”

Anyway I FINALLY FINISHED TYPING THIS!! I hope you all enjoyed reading about Tyler’s cuteness. I know it’s not the same as the videos or audios but it’s the best I can do! And just know he’s an angel.
