Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna, who was Princess Alix of Hesse prior to her marriage, is seen in the photo surrounded by family, friends, and staff. Nearby sit two of her siblings, Princess Irene of Prussia and Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig. Ernst Ludwig’s two surviving children, Georg Donatus and Ludwig, sit between Tsesarevich Alexei Nikolaevich and Grand Duchess Tatiana Nikolaevna.
Doctor Yevgeny Sergeievich Botkin, the Imperial family’s doctor, is seen on the left in the second row from the top. He would be murdered alongside the Romanov family eight years later in July 1918.
