I’ve gotta say, the incorporation of William Blake’s famous poem, The Tyger, into Wolverine’s history of indulging in the dualistic animalistic side of his mutant identity was a stroke of genius? The sequential timing of the stanzas with the artwork is especially top notch!

Even after so many years since I first read Wolverine: Origin back in high school, I’m still completely blown away by the sheer level of artistry on display throughout the miniseries! Andy Kubert & Richard Isanov’s illustrations, combined with Paul Jenkins’s narration in the form of Rose O’Hara’s diary entries, do a phenomenal job in selling the overwhelming weight & tragedy of young James Logan Howlett’s transformation into Wolverine!
“But underneath it all, just a boy.”
Rose’s words truly say it all. Underneath all of the blood & heartbreak, from killing his father’s murderer upon awakening his mutation to being disowned by his emotionally absent mother, at the end of the day the story of Wolverine will always be that of a traumatized outcast yearning for human connection.

Gosh dang are Joe Quesada’s covers for Wolverine: Origin FREAKING gorgeous! Say what ya will about Quesada’s stupid editorial decisions regarding Spider-Man (and I’ve certainly said a lot about how much I HATE One More Day), but the man is an undeniably phenomenal artist!
Looking back on the Wolverine: Origin miniseries, it's honestly shocking how casually cruel & abusive the chef at the mining camp, Cookie Malone, was towards young James Howlett.
Also, that bottom panel of Cookie on the second page is legitimate nightmare fuel, and it has lived rent-free in my head ever since I first read Origin over a decade ago!
