i am???? actually crying a little?????
i’ve been stressing out all week over family probs, and writing blocks, and phone malfunctions, and the fact that i have no earthly idea how to make a dang zine, and printers being The Devil, and that i’m technically gonna be doing 2 conventions on the same weekend and one is on the other side of the US, and i am so tired and stressed that i’ve been artistically frozen the past two days.
and then i see this?
i feel like a shonen anime hero who was just bleeding out in a smoking crater and suddenly remembered the power of friendship. thanks Juliet.

also if anyone knows about making lighting fast zines and formatting pages and stuff please help i am dying. everyone is gonna be so professional and i gotta hide the fact that i don’t know what i’m doing.
also also, i’m gonna be at Linework NW in Portland Oregon on the 22nd, and my friend will be running a table for me at X-Con Myrtle beach in South Carolina the 21st-22nd. i’ll be traveling thursday and have a scheduled layover in Chicago that’s going to last 4 hours so if’ you’re not a murderer come hang out with me.
What I Read This Week: Lazy Twitter Edition
Heya folks! Y’all are great and I hope you don’t feel neglected! I’ve got a comic review lined up to kick off September, but I’ve also been swamped with writing projects and work stuff. Work stuff is boring, but in case you didn’t hear, I’m now a zine reviewer for Women Write About Comics! I also reviewed the Taptastic app for them plus I’m working on some other stuff. Be excited! Or not, that’s cool too.

Target made some ads about Star Wars that feature kids of MULTIPLE GENDERS which should not be a big deal but the world is sad so let’s take an opportunity to celebrate.
The comic book Raising Dion and accompanying trailer are so amazing that I cannot handle it. It’s about a single mother raising a son with superpowers and some big comics publisher needs to snatch this up because it’s incredible.

What I Read This Week: Super Duper Late Edition
Helllloooooo I’m so sorry! This post should have happened three days ago! I actually meant to update with synopses of each of the books/comics/zines I got at CAKE (Chicago Alternative Comics Expo) last weekend but my life is crazy and I don’t have time to do that. However, I am going to review a couple for this blog! Don’t worry, all my super rad alt comics purchases will be revealed.
Womenwriteaboutcomics.com graciously published another of my articles! I wrote a piece about Bobby Drake, AKA Iceman, coming out as gay in the X-Men comics. Really, though, I wanted to write about coming out moments and representation of queer characters in general. I think that we - we being queer people - sometimes make excuses for characters (and thus for writers) and let them be a little two-dimensional or inauthentic because good representation is hard to find (except in the indie/web/alt comics world.) I’ve decided I’m over compromise, and I want us to critique queer moments and characters for their authenticity!
