Educating coworkers about being Ace!
So, yesterday a co worker asked me about being Ace. She mentioned my posts on Facebook and about how open I am. She was wondering if she fell into the spectrum. After a long talk we decided she wasn’t at all, she was just not having a good relationship with her partner at the time which made her think she was
This is where education comes in. This co worker of mine, who we will call Lulu because I can’t think of another damn name right now and it’s midnight, asked me if asexuality only meant not having sexual intercourse with your partner.
Of course I understand most people in this situation may either be offended or too timid to speak, but I was almost honored to be able to spread the word and awareness. I spoke to her about our spectrum, and how personally being gray Ace was something that I have coped with pretty well. My partner and I are still sexually active, but I can’t say we haven’t had some issues due to this. We’ve worked through them thankfully, after 8 years I mean, come on, we have to try right? Especially when you’re still madly in love.
So at the end of the day, I felt pretty good to have told someone that. And I work at a place where we’re all very open minded, but I just want to point out the fact that being comfortable in your own skin and spreading awareness will help other fellow Aces around the world, so we’re no longer looked down upon, and so we’re accepted as a legitimate sexual orientation for crying out loud.
There is nothing wrong with us, we don’t need therapy, we are not broken, we are not “wrong”. We are wonderfully Asexual!
