Here's something you can try when you're feeling uncertain: check in with your future self.
Not the perfect, flawless version. just the one who's a little further along. the one who's already moved through what you're facing right now.
a gentle practice to explore:
Close your eyes if that feels comfortable. imagine the version of you who already has more peace. more trust in yourself and the life you want.
Now ask them softly: "what would you tell me right now?"
That future version of you isn't someone else. They're already inside you, quietly guiding you forward. Their wisdom is your wisdom. just a bit further down the path.
Listen for the answer. It’s probably simpler than you think.
(Chances are, they'd just tell you to keep going.)
Setting boundaries with someone you love and care for
Something I feel like doesn‘t get talked about enough is how hard it is to set boundaries with someone you deeply care about and would do anything to help. Of course there are toxic people you know are not good for you and you should keep at a distance. But what about the ones who are genuinely nice but they‘re struggling with their own demons and you can‘t just sit by and watch them go through it all on their own? I‘m not saying you shouldn‘t help them. However, our personal boundaries often get forgotten with people we deeply care for. I think it‘s important to be aware that you‘re overstepping your boundaries when it comes to certain people. And that just because you love them it‘s still not okay to neglect yourself in the process of trying to help them. Because as much as we would love to believe it, we still can‘t fix everything for them and it‘s not our job to do so. Also, just because you set your boundaries with them doesn‘t mean you love them any less.
While communicating your boundaries, the hardest thing to experience is the other person being hurt by your actions. Beware that again, in that situation, you‘re not the villain for taking care of yourself first. And your love for them isn‘t less valid because of your boundaries. Tell them honestly, that you didn‘t mean to hurt them but you also can‘t keep hurting yourself to make them happy. (And in most cases they‘re not happy either way).
Value your time and energy and be wise about where you invest it in. And try to be open and vocal about your boundaries. If you can‘t communicate your boundaries in a healthy way others will keep overstepping it.
Setting boundaries teaches other people how to treat you. Just the way you want it. It also benefits your self-esteem and self-worth because once you take yourself seriously and take care of your own needs, your confidence will skyrocket! Boundaries are very hard to set and even harder to maintain but it‘s absolutely worth it! I‘m still in the process of setting mine with all the different people in my life. But I can already tell how much self-respect I‘ve gained over the last couple of months by just commuincating my needs openly. It surprises me every time how blind I‘ve been all this time caught up in people pleasing. (Still trying to unlearn that lol)

So, yesterday a co worker asked me about being Ace. She mentioned my posts on Facebook and about how open I am. She was wondering if she fell into the spectrum. After a long talk we decided she wasn’t at all, she was just not having a good relationship with her partner at the time which made her think she was
This is where education comes in. This co worker of mine, who we will call Lulu because I can’t think of another damn name right now and it’s midnight, asked me if asexuality only meant not having sexual intercourse with your partner.
Of course I understand most people in this situation may either be offended or too timid to speak, but I was almost honored to be able to spread the word and awareness. I spoke to her about our spectrum, and how personally being gray Ace was something that I have coped with pretty well. My partner and I are still sexually active, but I can’t say we haven’t had some issues due to this. We’ve worked through them thankfully, after 8 years I mean, come on, we have to try right? Especially when you’re still madly in love.
So at the end of the day, I felt pretty good to have told someone that. And I work at a place where we’re all very open minded, but I just want to point out the fact that being comfortable in your own skin and spreading awareness will help other fellow Aces around the world, so we’re no longer looked down upon, and so we’re accepted as a legitimate sexual orientation for crying out loud.
There is nothing wrong with us, we don’t need therapy, we are not broken, we are not “wrong”. We are wonderfully Asexual!
