News Travels Fast Around Here-Part 1
A/N: So last nite I couldn’t sleep at ALL because my hubby has a cold and he SNORES something awful when he’s sick and keeps me up. I took some pain meds since I’m still recovering from surgery. I got an idea to write a Grey’s/Spn mashup for my Wondertwin @kittenofdoomage just cuz I love her. and she loves Grey’s. Here is part 1. Enjoy more of my Hydrocodone-infused crack
It all started with a strung-out crackhead and an umbrella.
Jody Mills thought she’d seen it all. You didn’t spend ten years running the ER at St. Helena’s Hospital without dealing with some messed up shit. She’d cleaned up oceans of puke, been hit, kicked, spit on, even chased around by a drunk guy wielding a Samari sword. So when she walked in and everything seemed quiet, she breathed a happy sigh…..which lasted all of five seconds.
When her friend Donna Hanscum came barreling through the door, her blue eyes fixed immediately on her boss and friend. “Jody! Need ya! Had an issue in the ER a few minutes ago. Phyllis came in (Phyllis being the neighborhood crackhead always looking for her next fix). We didn’t know she’d gotten her hands on some bad shit.”
Jody immediately grabbed her extra-large Dunkin’ and started walking towards the ER. “I’m still listening.” Donna continued to give report.
"When the resident tried to take her BP, Phyllis went nuts, pulled out an umbrella we didn't know she had, and started beating on her arm until she let go." Donna rolled her eyes. Phyllis was batshit crazy long before the drugs had fried her brain, no one had thought to check her for weapons?
“Great. Someone took it away, right?” Jody was already tired, and she was exactly five minutes into a twelve-hour shift. The questions came rapid fire after that. “Did someone give Phyllis a dose of Narcan? Do we need to call the cops? How bad is the resident’s arm? Is she pressing charges?”
“It’s probably broken,” Donna replied. “We need to do an x-ray but here’s the thing…...It’s Kelsey. But wait, There’s more.” Jody stopped dead for a second as it all registered at once. Her daughter, Kelsey. Second-year Surgical Resident, IQ off the charts, her baby girl, was the resident in question. Goddamn, Phyllis!
Jody was about to bolt over to x-ray and find her wayward daughter, but something made her stop and turn and squint at Donna. “You said there’s more?”
Something on Donna’s face told Jody instantly she wasn’t going to like what came next. “Well?” She snapped.
“They had to do a urine preg per protocol, Jodes. She’s over 18.” Donna paused. And well......Well....It’s positive.”
Jody moved so fast that she grabbed Donna by her badge and pulled her in so close their faces were touching. “Do NOT enter that result in the system. Positives get flagged. If her father sees that before I talk to him, he will have a fucking aneurysm, are we clear?”
Donna’s shoulders sagged weakly. “It’s too late. It’s already in the system. Pamela didn't realize who she was and entered it before I could stop her. Kelsey won’t talk to me, except to tell me to get you and you only.” Jody’s cell began to ring, and when she saw it was Kelsey’s father calling, who just happened to be the fucking Chief of fucking Surgery, she swore under her breath and immediately hit silence.
“Shit, that was Dean.” Jody hissed. "News travels fast around here.”
