❛ no offense, but i think you might be just a little too crazy for me. ❜
It's subtle, the way his smile drops. Just a dimming in the brightness of his gaze when he looks at her. Scintillance turned shadow in the wake of her words.
Her proclamation comes with no malice, no scorn. Just an off-handed comment as she sits on his couch crocheting a new white ruff for Mephisto, the little skein of fingerweight yarn in her lap bouncing as she unravels a little more of it. As if she hadn't just wounded him to the core. As if such words mean nothing to her at all.
She doesn't know. Doesn't remember what she's cursed him to. Doesn't know what he's done to find her again, to meet her again in a lifetime when things just feel a little more simple.
Somehow, the simplicity feels less safe.
Only his memories remain. Of the wild and willful bloodshed they'd shared, of the love and the longing that lingered when he'd been ripped from the creche of her embrace. Of the violence it took to become who he is, refining himself over lifetimes until he could stand before her, worthy of her, deserving of meeting her again. To receive a verdict of such devastating magnitude felt brutal but just. Maybe there was nothing he could ever do across a hundred, thousand lifetimes that would make him deserving of her again. Maybe the scales would never tip in his favor once more.
But he's wearing that enigmatic half-smile, amused and uninvested all at once, assuming that air of unperturbed detachment. "I'm as crazy as necessity demands," Sylus says evenly, with a conviction he doesn't quite believe. He walks over, leans down to trace his fingertip along her jaw then tapping it to her lips.
Kneeling beside her on the couch he levels himself her gaze, pinching at her chin now. "Maybe," he begins, words trailing off as his eyes wander with a determined purpose to delight upon the sight of her little mouth. "Maybe you could stand to be a little more crazy, yeah?"
