When this fuzz ball showed up on a ash log I was sawing Sunday morning, I knew it was trying to tell me something. But, what ...?

I couldn't remember: Did a wide brown stripe on a woolly worm predict a harsh winter or a soft one ...? I looked it up:

The fact is, a wide brown stripe like the one you see here says "mild winter ahead." Well ... not fact, exactly. More like a groundhog kind of thing. Folklore.
