You were a rookie idol, debuted just last year. As the youngest member of your group, you had risen to fame quickly for your quirky personality and trendy stage clips.
And with fame came more opportunities.
"Y/N, how do you feel about being a special MC for Inkigayo?" Your manager had asked.
You had grinned from ear to ear.
₊˚⊹♡🧸ྀི♡‧₊˚
A few weeks before your first rehearsal, you learnt that your partner would be Woonhak from BOYNEXTDOOR. He already had a crazy amount of experience being an Inkigayo MC, and he was a senior of two years over you. Not to mention that he was a couple years older too.
You made up your mind to not be outshined by his already solid reputation.
At rehearsals, you sat patiently waiting for him to arrive. The door opened and a group of staff followed in.
When you normally imagined famous idols off-camera, you expected them to be very low energy. Not necessarily rude, but just on power saving mode. That was what most of your members were like.
But boy was this guy different.
He yelled out greetings brightly, bowing to the four corners of the room in a full 90 degrees. You stood up and bowed back, eagerly greeting in return. Ain't no way you were being beaten at respect by a senior.
He bowed lower than you, to which you bowed even lower. The two kept bowing lower and lower until you both were basically on the ground. The crew laughed, angling the behind camera at the two of you.
When you both got up, he bowed politely again. "Hello! I'm Woonhak from BOYNEXTDOOR."
You bowed too. "Nice to meet you! I'm Y/N from Y/G/N. I look forward to working with you!"
After that, the rehearsal went smoothly.
₊˚⊹♡🧸ྀི♡‧₊˚
On the day of the show, you headed into the MC greenroom with your heart pounding. Woonhak was already there, having his makeup done. He smiled brightly at you. "Good luck today! You got this."
You nodded, bowing greatfully as you say next to him for your own makeup.
He was wearing a casual dress shirt and pants, and you were wearing a chic dress. The theme was an evening party, whatever that meant.
You kept reading over the cue cards, muttering to yourself. Eventually, a hand came and lowered them from your eyes. You were met with Woonhak's grinning face.
"Don't be nervous. It's okay if you make mistakes, I got your back."
You nodded.
₊˚⊹♡🧸ྀི♡‧₊˚
The show started, and you were doing well. You breezed through the script, with Woonhak saying mildly cringe flirty lines to you that had fans screaming regardless. You were standing on the platform when suddenly your heel turned.
You felt the world slow down, and then turn sideways.
You had closed your eyes for an impact, but it never came. When you opened them, Woonhak was holding you with a look of pure panic on his face, his hand wrapped around your waist.
The moment lasted exactly one second.
His hand was immediately off you, gently grabbing your arm to steady you instead.
"You okay?" He asked, still smiling and continuing the script.
"I'm fine, thank you! Now, coming up in this next stage..."
When the camera turned off, the fans all "oooh" ed at you, to which Woonhak just grinned and waved them off. You stood shock still.
You were popular enough to know what a hate train was like. And if it involved a male idol as well-known as Woonhak?
Your blood ran cold. You weren't established enough yet. A scandal or issue caused because of this could ruin your whole career. Your group's whole career.
When the camera turned on again, Woonhak was as smooth as ever.
"Wasn't that an amazing stage? I feel like my heart's still bursting from all that excitement. I think we need to cool down a bit now, right Y/N ssi?"
"Yeah! Um... we..." The words were in front of you, but your brain was spiralling. "Lemonade.."
The crew started murmuring, and Woonhak immediately jumped in. "Lemonade? Do you mean the song by aespa sunbaenim?"
You nodded quickly. "Yes! That... That's the perfect song to cool off. Geez, it's hot in here."
Woonhak couldn't stop a small smile of genuine adoration crossinghis face as you butchered your lines. The camera cut off, and you immediately dropped your head in your hands as the fans watching, both yours and his, shouting out that it was okay.
He made a noise of sympathy and held out a hand to pat your shoulder, then thought better of it.
After that, the eventful day eventually came to an end.
But the impact that moment had left on the K-pop community certainly hadn't.
In a matter of days, X was trending your names. Everywhere you went, there was a clip of Woonhak catching you by the waist. People changed their profile pictures to it. Dedicated fanbases sprung up, uncovering every single moment you two had "interacted" (Although you swore you had only met him at Inkigayo).
Slowly but surely, it became impossible to ignore. Woonhak's Weverse Live messages were bombarded with your name.
He read them slowly, a small smile on his lips. "Y/N? My MC partner? Yeah, she was fun to work with. You guys liked that day a lot, huh? Was it the outfit? I think the outfit was really cool. I also had a lot of fun that day."
But his smile insinuated that it wasn't just his outfit that had been so fun.
So what did you think of this?
At first you had been horrified. You had expected hate. And of course, it wasn't like there had been no hate whatsoever. But overall, it had turned out so much better than you expected. You were involuntarily hitchhiking off of Woonhak's fame: ONEDOORs tuned in to listen to your music and you gained massive followings in record speed.
So if everything was okay, surely it was fine to feel this excited and... flustered when you saw that clip again, right?
It was surely okay to imagine the ghost of his hand against your waist, or to visualise all the short conversations you had with him while you tried to sleep at night, right?
Oh, you were doomed.
A/N: I could've continued to them interacting more (maybe even becoming something???) but I didn't want it getting too long lol srry if this is ragebait

2 weeks. 2 weeks of planning had led to this.
BOYNEXTDOOR finally gotten a full day break, which meant you could finally go on a date with your boyfriend.
You and Woonhak had spent hours texting each other what to do and where to go; you wanted to make the absolute most of this God-given opportunity.
You woke up at 7:00 and dressed as cute as possible, heading out to a halfway point between your house and the dorms.
When you saw him under a tree with a mask on, it was already 8:00. He smiled at you, taking off his mask.
"Geez, I missed you," he breathed out, hugging you tight against him.
You went and ate breakfast together. Soon after, you headed to the arcade.
The plan was simple: avoid crowded places. Keep it quiet. Going to the arcade in the morning was the most perfect way to avoid crowds and enjoy your date properly.
Inside, you both went around the arcade, playing whatever games you saw. After about 15 minutes of fooling around, you noticed a guy on one of the video games, laying down on the extended chair and eagerly shooting zombies. He looked... strangely familiar.
You tapped Woonhak, who was busy trying (and failing) the basketball game. He leaned towards you, ignoring the time running out. "Something wrong?"
You nudged your head at the figure. Woonhak's eyes narrowed. "Surely not..."
The figure had finished his game. He stood up, stretching and patting his stomach. He turned around and noticed you two.
Jaehyun. Myung Jaehyun, at an arcade at 10:00.
Maybe you two weren't the only ones that had planned a quiet gaming escapade.
His face lit up. "Woonhakie! Oh my gosh, Y/N too! You guys were meeting up? I didn't even know!" He practically ran up to you, his imaginary tail wagging.
Woonhak groaned under his breath but smiled tightly. "Hi, hyung."
"I didn't know you two were this close! This is so amazing, let's hang out!"
"Um," Woonhak cut in while you tried not to giggle. "Hyung, I see you everyday at home."
"Yeah, but I don't see Y/N everyday! Come on, let's go!" He placed an arm around both your shoulders, dragging you around the arcade. Woonhak grit his teeth as you laughed.
You stopped in front of the claw machine, eyeing a teddy bear plush. Woonhak smiled. "You like that one?" He was already inserting a coin.
You watched as he tried and failed to get the plushie. Then he tried again. And again.
After the fifth try, Jaehyun shoved him away. "Watch and learn, kid."
He inserted a coin and adjusted the claw, eyebrows furrowed in concentration.
The claw grabbed onto the teddy, and pulled it straight into the box.
You whooped in joy as Woonhak stared in shock.
Jaehyun grinned, grabbing the teddy bear and handing it to you. You thanked him profusely while Woonhak crossed his arms and scoffed.
After finishing up at the arcade, the three decided to head to the park next. Well, the two tried to go alone, but Jaehyun insisted he tag along.
Jaehyun strutted in front proudly as you and Woonhak walked behind him, wanting to hold hands but scared that he'd turn around.
At the park, you all sat down on a bench for a break. Woonhak sat dangerously close to you, shoulders brushing against yours. Jaehyun, without a care in the world, plopped down next to you, squeezing in so that both your shoulders were being squished by the two guys. Woonhak smiled apologetically.
After a while on the bench, two figures in masks suddenly approached you. Woonhak groaned, but Jaehyun sprang up. "OH MY GOSH! WHAT ARE THE CHANCES???"
At this point, even you were getting a bit annoyed.
Leehan and Taesan took off their masks, staring in shock.
"You guys also decided to come to the park? Oh, hi Y/N," Taesan said as Leehan gave you a tiny wave.
You were waving back when Woonhak cleared his throat. "Guys. I was supposed to be hanging out with Y/N today."
Taesan raised an eyebrow. "You still are, aren't you?"
Woonhak made a noise of frustration. "Yes, but you all keep tagging along! It's not fun anymore."
You resisted the urge to peck his pouty lips, opting to study the grass instead.
Taesan barked a laugh. "We like Y/N too, y'know. Learn to share, buddy. Where to next?"
Leehan spoke up. "The bridge is always pretty at this time of day."
The group of 5 headed to the bridge. You and Woonhak kept trying to stick together, but Taesan kept looking back with a raised eyebrow. Of course he'd catch on to any funny business.
At the bridge, everybody ran on and leaned against the rails, watching the river splash by. Woonhak and you exchanged a glance; this was not the perfect date you had planned.
A soft and puzzled voice was heard behind you. "What the heck are guys doing?"
The group turned, finding Sungho wearing headphones and a mask. Jaehyun leaped up in joy and pounced to hug him.
"What are you doing here? Did you come all together? Since when were you together? Where's Riwoo?" Sungho bombarded you with questions while swatting Jaehyun away.
After finishing up the interrogation and walking around the park more, it soon became late evening.
"I wish Riwoo were here," Jaehyun grumbled. "Then it'd be the full pack. The more the merrier, y'know?"
"I wish I had jumped in that river earlier," Woonhak mumbled.
The group left the park, wandering the streets while chatting. Taesan had his arm around Woonhak's shoulder, and Leehan had trapped you in a conversation about fish that you were trying your best to be interested in. You and Woonhak were literally on the opposite ends of the group.
"Oi! Why are y'all hanging out without me?" The group turned to find Riwoo walking up. Jaehyun squealed, and all the boys made excited noises. "How'd he know to come?" Taesan asked, eyes wide.
"Cuz I'm psychic. Obviously," Riwoo grinned.
"Jaehyun hyung called him at the park," Woonhak deadpanned.
"K, so now we get ice cream! Woonhak, stop looking so down. Turn that frown," he bent and tilted his face exaggeratedly. "Upside down!"
Leehan immediately began singing, and Taesan grabbed him by the throat to silence him.
₊˚⊹♡🧸ྀི♡‧₊˚
At the ice cream stall, the members ate excitedly while you and Woonhak stood behind. You both claimed you were too full for ice cream, so the others left you behind.
You stared at Woonhak. He stared back. You both sighed at the same time.
"Well, this was ruined." He kicked at a rock.
"I still had fun," you said softly.
"Yeah, but this was supposed to be our day. Darn it, I don't even know when my next break will be." He ran his hand through his hair.
"I know, I know. Believe me, it sucks. I am... trying not to get too upset."
He smiled up at you, tight-lipped. "The day they find out we're dating, I'll punch them all for you."
"The day we find out what now?"
Woonhak mouth opened in horror. He spun around and was met with all 5 of the members staring at the two of you.
Jaehyun's face had gone expressionless, but every second his grin was increasing exponentially. Sungho simply had an eyebrow raised, while Riwoo was covering his mouth with a hand. Taesan was smirking as if he was a genius, and Leehan just stared like a statue.
Taesan broke the silence. "I knew something was up."
And the interrogation began.
Woonhak was practically tackled to the ground by Jaehyun. "I was so worried! My little brother isn't a lonely loser! I love you so much bro," he wailed.
Woonhak just wrestled him off in confusion as Sungho started with his questions.
"Since when? How? Did you pay her? Did you confess? Did she consent?"
Leehan had come up to you and taken a hold of your hand. He held it gently in both of his.
"I am so, so sorry. I'm so sorry," he practically whispered. You stared at him with a raised eyebrow, wondering why you were being treated like you were at a funeral.
Riwoo was looking you up and down, as if judging your worth. Taesan was looking Woonhak up and down, as if judging his worth.
The whole group was, undeniably, glowing with joy. Their baby brother had found the love of his life!
Soon the laughter died down, and Taesan cut in.
"So that means we just third wheeled the only chance you had at a proper date."
"Eighth wheeled, technically," Riwoo added.
Jaehyun's jaw dropped from the realisation, his stupid smile doing a 180 flip.
"Woonhak! My baby! I'm so, so sorry!" Now Woonhak was being strangled with hugs.
Taesan was still staring in amusement. "So how far have y'all gone?"
Woonhak went bright red as you choked on thin air. "What the heck is that supposed to mean?"
Taesan shrugged. "Have you kissed?"
Riwoo immediately initiated a chain of "ooo"s that all the boys joined in on. They started chanting "do it, do it" while you two stared at each other in shock.
Woonhak made a face that was asking for permission, and you shrugged, trying to hide your blush.
He leaned in and quickly pecked your cheek.
The members hollered.
Jaehyun had a full meltdown and ended up laying on the street.
Once the commotion died down, he got up again. "That's it. I'm kidnapping both of you."
Leehan suddenly spoke up. "Wouldn't that make them siblings?"
Everyone groaned. Taesan tilted his head menacingly. "I always think I miss your voice until I hear you speak again."
"You miss my voice?" Leehan smiled shyly while Jaehyun wheezed.
Woonhak sighed, looking at you. With his members distracted, you took the chance to lightly take a hold of his hand. You squeezed gently, smiling.
"It was fun, Woon. I feel like I'm a part of the family now. Better than any over thought, anxious date that had to be perfect."
Woonhak nodded. Then, after quickly looking to make sure his hyungs were distracted, he leaned in.
Close. Too close.
"Next time, though, we're having a full day to ourselves. You'll be all mine."
You nodded, feeling your face heat up.
"Ew! What are the kids doing!" Riwoo shouted, pointing.
Woonhak pulled back, smiling at your flustered state.
The trip back home was chaotic, loud, and way too messy to be romantic.
But you had found something more important than romance that day.
You had found a new family that had welcomed you with open arms.
Raised eyebrows, mockery, and interrogations, but open arms nonetheless.
The new camera he had brought let out a click, and he grinned in satisfaction. "Great, now turn around reach towards the tree with a hand."
You huffed. Going to see the cherry blossoms was meant to be a romantic date, not a photoshoot. You did as he said nevertheless.
He whooped as he captured you, spewing out compliments. "My girlfriend is so pretty!"
After 5 minutes, you finally managed to get him to stop and look around. However, whenever you looked away and back he was right back at his camera. You sighed in frustration.
"Woon, we're here to see cherry blossoms. You're not even looking at them!"
He shrugged, capturing your little frown. "Not my fault you're prettier."
You roll your eyes, unable to stop your mouth from twitching. "Whatever. We should find a place to eat now anyway."
The two set up a picnic blanket and laid out the meal, slowly eating while talking.
Although it was nearly impossible to talk when you were having eye contact with a camera.
After 10 minutes, you got fed up. You stood up in frustration, tears spotting in your eyes. It wasn't a big deal, really. You didn't know why you were crying. It was probably because of the guilt of not wanting him on his camera. After all, he was just excited about his new purchase, and he was only filming you. But it upset you nonetheless, and it upset you more that it bothered you, and soon you were in a spiral and you felt tears forming.
Woonhak immediate stood up too. "Love, what's wrong? Why are you crying? ls it me?"
"It's the stupid camera," you snapped. "I get that you're excited about it, but I've barely seen your face this entire day 'cause you're always behind it. At this point, I don't even know if you're dating me or your camera." You sniffled, regretting losing patience.
Woonhak's face melted into a gentle smile, and he softly put the camera on the blanket before opening his arms. "Oh, love." He engulfed you in a big bear hug, reaching to stroke your hair.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. Don't cry, hm? Never cry 'cause of me. I don't deserve it. How about this? How about I put the camera away for the day, and we go back and watch the cherry blossoms all over again, hm? Does that sound okay?" He mumbled into your hair.
You sniffled, shaking your head. "It's too late. It'll be dark soon."
Woonhak pulled back, gently tucking your hair behind your ear and wiping a stray tear with his thumb. "So? Cherry blossoms in the dark. Plus, if we hurry, we could get a few hours of golden evening. The perfect lighting."
You raised your eyebrow.
He laughed, poking your cheek. "The perfect lighting for me to see my girlfriend shine like a goddess. Just me, with my eyes."
You rolled your eyes, looking around the park, then reached up to give him a quick peck on the lips. He grinned his big ol' smile at you, grabbing your hand to start rushing to enjoy the cherry blossoms.

You hadn't wanted to go to the Bruno Mars concert alone.
It wasn't safe, it wasn't sensible, and it wasn't you.
But Min had cancelled an hour before the show, and you had been waiting for this for years. So who cared if people looked at you weird? You would scream off-key to your heart's content.
Apparently you weren't the only one with that mindset.
At first the tall boy in a black hoodie standing next to you had been completely lost in his own world, shouting out each line while shimmying his shoulders as if in a trance.
"WE SHOULD BE DANCING, ROMANCING!!"
Until he realized he had competition.
At first you two shared nervous glances. Soon, all hell broke loose as you both attempted to be louder than the other.
"IMMA LEAVE THE DOOR OOPPENN~~~~!!!"
You exchanged furtive grins, half-embarassed and half-excited to have found an equally loud soul.
As the songs went on, you eventually forgot all about this boy being a random stranger. You both screamed at the same times, laughed at the same times, and eventually both cried during When I Was Your Man (while screaming the words, of course). He was also apparently alone.
After a long night, the show ended.
You stood motionless, unaware of what to do. It felt like your life had just ended along with the concert. How could you go back to being a member of society?
You locked eyes with Loud Boy. He grinned at you, and you grinned back. Soon, you were both being pushed out by the masses.
Outside, you somehow managed to not get separated. You hesitantly spoke.
"That was... fun—" you immediately began coughing, your voice coming out like a frog's croak.
"Yeah.." He agreed, his voice not sounding much better. He laughed mid-cough, then held out his hand.
"Woonhak. Woonhak Kim."
You took it, introducing yourself too.
"So, do you normally go to concerts alone, or...?"
He laughed. "No, a friend cancelled."
You gasped. "Same?!! She cancelled one hour before, too!"
Woonhak exclaimed in horror. "You deserve better."
"I know right. So... I should get going soon. So long, stranger?" You held up a hand to wave goodbye. After all, you didn't know this guy, and Min was waiting to pick you up as an apology.
"Woonhak." He corrected with a grin and a raised eyebrow. He waved back. "You have a ride?"
"Mhm. Bye!!" You turned and hurried off.
Woonhak smiled after you, watching you hurry with a little skip in your step. He mentally cursed himself for not asking for your social media or anything, but he didn't want to seem creepy.
He took out his phone and called his friend. It was answered in 3 rings.
"So first of all, screw you, and I'll never trust you again. Second, stay with me hyung, but I think I'm in love."
A sigh was heard on the other side. "Yeah, Bruno does that to people. Also, your voice is completely gone."
Woonhak scrunched his eyebrows. "Huh? No, what— with a girl. I'm in love with a girl."
Another sigh. "We leave you alone for 1 hour, and this is what happens. At least you can't shout for the next week. Mission 'Get Some Peace and Quiet': complete. Night. Get home safe."
"You're not picking me up?"
Laughter echoed on the speaker, followed by a deadpan "No".

You tipped the jug slowly, watching the water drip into the glass.
Drip. Drip.
It was sunny outside.
It was dark out.
"Come on, you'll be late," he laughed.
"You didn't even have to come!" You argued, grabbing Woonhak's hand to slow him down.
"I'm not letting you walk in the dark alone??? No sir, I'm a gentleman."
You rolled your eyes. "A gentlemen would match my walking speed, but sure."
He looked at you with sudden worry in his eyes. "Wait, am I actually going too fast? I'll slow down. I'm just worried you'll be late for class again."
You shook your head, laughing. "I'm just teasing."
He scoffed with the biggest smile on his face. He reached and grabbed your hand, gently pulling you along. You breathed in the fresh morning air, a hundred times sweeter because of the boy next to you, who had woken up early just to walk you.
Drip. Drip.
The water filled the glass, inch by inch.
You heard laughter in the background, some children playing at the park.
There were children playing in the park near you as you walked furiously along the path.
"Hey! Oi! Wait up!" Woonhak ran up to you, meeting you at the middle of a bridge.
You turned around, frowning with displeasure. "What?"
He gently grabbed your hand. "I'm so, so sorry I was late. I didn't forget. I was just so busy all day, which isn't an excuse, I know. I just... I'm sorry. Happy anniversary. You've made me the happiest guy ever for an entire year, and I know I don't deserve you. I'm so upset with myself that I screwed up this bad, and I wish I had just bought something in advance, cause I also agree that a text isn't enough—"
You cut him off, gently grabbing his face and pecking his lips. He stared at you, a mix between dumbstruck and lovestruck. You laughed at his expression.
"I forgive you, dummy. Thank you for the card. And you're not late. The day hasn't ended yet."
He smiled, beaming at you. He put his hands in his pocket, then took them out, laughing. He held something up. "I stole someone's pen."
You both burst into laughter, still standing in the middle of the bridge. When you calmed down, you gently reached to touch your forehead to his.
"Happy anniversary, Woon. Thank you for such a special gift. I won't ever forget it."
He frowned at you. "I just wrote a card though? I didn't write it well, don't have high expectations."
You smiled. "You were willing to run to a store and steal a pen, write a card, and apologize when I was overreacting. That's my gift. You're my gift."
Drip. Drip.
The glass was half full now. Or was it half empty?
"I swear, that half-full half-empty stuff makes no sense. It's literally both. There's no debate. Half means there are two outcomes, two parts. Why does no one get it?" You chattered away, your breath coming out as a swirl of condensed air.
"You're right. You won't go thirsty either way. People should stop overanalyzing it."
"Right? See, it makes sense!"
You kept chatting, hand interlocked with Woonhak's. You leaned into him, your padded coats rubbing together. You looked down. Your shoelace was untied, dripping with the melted snow on the road.
"Yuck. It's soaked in sleet," you mumbled.
Woonhak stopped walking, bending down.
"Wait, Woon, it's dirty—"
He was already tying it, making a pretty bow like how you had taught him. When he was done, he looked up at you and smiled.
Time stopped as you stared at each other. Eventually, you looked away. "Idiot," you muttered. He laughed and straightened up, wiping his hand on his coat before reaching for yours again.
Drip. Drip.
The glass was full now. You kept tilting the jug.
Splash.
A drop landed on the table, spilling out of the glass.
A tear spilled out your eye, but you did nothing to stop it.
"I just don't think we're right for each other. I— I... We should end this before we get more hurt." Woonhak wasn't even looking at you.
You just stared, the singular tear being the only sign of your emotions. "I... I don't understand. Wasn't I— Didn't you— Weren't we good? Nothing... Nothing changed, Woon. I'm still me, and you're still you. So why—" Your voice cracked. "Why are you doing this?" Tears fell freely now. Any other night, Woonhak would've reached over, pulling you into his arms and kissing each tear until you stopped crying. He would rub your arm, pat your head, tell you a million sweet things, but he would never just stand there, staring as if it wasn't his place to touch you. To comfort you.
But this wasn't any night.
"I... I'm sorry. I thought I knew... I thought I had it all figured out, but... I just can't anymore. We can't. This isn't meant to be, y'know? Do you get what I mean? Please tell me you get what I mean."
You shook your head, a sob escaping your lips.
He scratched his neck, looking horribly guilty.
"You'll get it someday. I promise. It's just not right. I'm sorry."
That night, you had layed awake in bed till the sun rose. Tears had poured down your face, but you hadn't made a sound. You had stuffed his card into a drawer, unable to bear seeing it on your bedstand.
He was gone the next week.
Drip. Splash.
You reached out, gently tipping the full glass over.
The water spilled onto the table.
Sudden. Uncalled for. The table hadn't done anything wrong. Neither had the water, really.
It dripped onto the floor as you stared at the mess you made.
Drip. Splash. Splash. Splash.
Halfway across the world, Woonhak sat in the corner of a foreign room, twirling a pen in his hands.
He had never returned it.
A/N: A very... Interesting attempt at a concept lol I think I'm low on sleep
