Woonhak stared at the napkin, fondly caressing the corner as if it were a sacred relic.
Taesan rolled his eyes next to him. "You haven't exchanged a single word, by the way."
Woonhak shook his head solemnly. "But I know the truth of her heart, hyung. That's more than I know about most people."
Taesan lightly smacked his head as he passed. "Yeah, but with most people you'd know their names before you begin drooling over them. Get back to work."
Woonhak remained staring at the napkin.
He had only started to notice these a few weeks ago. Whenever you made your weekly visit to the restaurant, you'd leave some sort of note in the corner, scribbled with adorable handwriting. Sometimes it was poetry, sometimes it was about the weather, sometimes it was just a plain old I hate chemistry.
It didn't matter what it was though. Woonhak waited every week for this special highlight, and when he discovered it he was always over the moon, no matter what the note contained.
Taesan found this absolutely ridiculous, but he grudgingly allowed Woonhak to be in charge of serving you.
Today was no different. Woonhak walked out to the dining area, holding your modest regular dish. You nodded politely in thanks, scribbling away at a napkin. You didn't notice him leaning backwards, trying to get a sneak peek of today's note.
When you realized he wasn't gone yet, you looked up. "Is something wrong?"
Woonhak scrambled to come up with a plausible excuse for being an idiot. "I— Er— No. Weather's nice today."
You tilted your head, but nodded. "Yeah, it's finally sunny."
He nodded, patting down his already flattened uniform. "Well, I'll be—"
"Woonhak."
He jaw dropped, heat crawling up his face. You knew his name? How'd you know that? Play it cool, Woonhak. "Um, do I know you?"
You furrowed your brow. "What, no. You have a name tag."
Woonhak swore he heard the sad loser trumpet noise in the background.
"Oh, right, um. Did you need something?"
"Could I have more napkins please?"
Woonhak nodded, quickly retrieving it for you. He then mustered up some courage. "More drawing material?"
You looked suddenly flustered, coughing and choking on your drink. "You know about that?"
He nodded shyly. "I liked last week's. Did you write it?" He was referring to a stanza of poetry that had been last week's note.
You shook your head frantically. "Just something I read somewhere."
He hummed, filling up your water. He then realised something. "Please don't stop doing it. If it makes you uncomfortable, I'll stop reading them," he said hurriedly.
You sipped your water, avoiding his gaze. "No, it's okay. It's your choice..."
"Then... Then can I keep reading them?"
You shrugged, causing him to beam. Your eyes widened at his huge grin. The napkins made him that happy?
He quickly bowed and returned to the back room.

All Woonhak could think about for the rest of his shift was your face.
All Taesan could think about was how he wanted to chop this kid's head off.
"Say one more word about her and I'm gonna become an occupational hazard."
"She was literally blushing! I'm telling you, there's something there. There's tension. I could feel it. I need to seize this chance."
"I'm gonna seize you by the neck," Taesan muttered, aggressively folding a takeout box. Woonhak paid him no mind.
"I'm gonna ask her out." He said suddenly.
Taesan deadpanned. "Great. I'll report you to the boss, and then I won't have to see you anymore."
Woonhak rolled his eyes. "Not while working, hyung. If I could just get her number..." He sprang up. "The napkins! I'll use the napkins."
Taesan glared at him. "Work while you speak or you'll have some real problems to deal with."
Woonhak quickly sat down, resuming the box folding. "I'll write my number on her napkin!"
Taesan sighed. "Oh, brother."
Woonhak was getting more and more excited. "I get her number, become friends with her, take her out somewhere, maybe even this restaurant! But I come in normal clothes, as a customer, and I ask her out! Maybe I'll write out a confession on a napkin. And then she is enamoured by my efforts and she says she likes me back. Then we live happily ever after. Bada bing, bada boom boom boom!"
Taesan stared, genuinely concerned for him. "Maybe just ask for her name before the number."
Woonhak nodded in agreement, grinning from ear to ear.

Next week, Woonhak kept a napkin prepared in advance. He had crossed out a bunch that looked "too messy" or "too performative", all of which repeated the same words: "What's your name, by the way? If you're fine with me asking. I'm Woonhak, but you know that already ・⌣・"
Taesan had threatened that if Woonhak wasted another napkin, he would personally force feed him one.
When he served you, he added the special napkin amongst the rest. He practically ran away afterwards, retreating to the back in case you were weirded out.
When he went at the end of the day to collect your empty dishes, he shifted through your napkins as usual. This time, the message was written nice and crisp, as if you wanted it to be as pretty as possible.

Taesan watched with pure disgust as both you and Woonhak attempted to stifle giggles as he served you your food.
At the back, he grabbed Woonhak. "So what, is the plan working?"
Woonhak grinned. "What, operation bada bing, bada boom boom boom?"
Taesan glared. "I'm not calling it that."
Woonhak nodded. "We're gonna come here next week."
Taesan happily released him, turning to grab more plates. "Great. Quit giggling like teenage dorks then."

A week later, you let Woonhak lead you into the familiar restaurant. He was dressed in a casual shirt, complimenting your own semi formal look.
After sitting down, Woonhak fiddled with his thumbs.
Taesan sauntered over with a lazy grin, still in his uniform. "And what will you be having?"
Woonhak replied with your regular order. "Two of them, please."
You smiled at him while Taesan made puking noises as he left.
While waiting for food, Woonhak was trying his best not to stare at you. When you finally caught him, he panicked and looked up, staring at the restaurant ceiling. "It's nice being here as a customer for once."
You nodded, doodling a heart on a napkin. Woonhak noticed and grinned. "Is the heart up for interpretation?"
You shook your head frantically. "I'm just drawing whatever."
He smiled, taking out a pen and drawing something. He concentrated, tongue sticking out as he drew silently for a few minutes.
"Done!" He showed you the napkin and you burst out laughing. It was as if a five year old had tried to draw you with their eyes closed.
Taesan facepalmed from his spying spot in the back.
"Very cute," you offered, still laughing. "The drawing, I mean, not me. If, er, that's even supposed to be me."
Woonhak smiled. "It is. You are."
Before you could process this, Taesan quickly arrived with your dishes. He also discreetly slid a bouquet of roses to Woonhak while you were distracted.
Before you started eating, Woonhak quickly spoke up. "Um, Y/N. I actually have something I planned to say. Please stop me at any moment if you feel uncomfortable, or cringed out, or scared, or annoyed, or anything."
You raised an eyebrow but nodded.
Woonhak took a deep breath before continuing. Taesan had given up on work, coming to learn against the doorway in the corner to openly spy.
"Y/N, I have been watching you for weeks. Shoot, wait, that's not what I meant to say. Ignore that. Restart."
He took a deep breath and started again.
"Y/N, before I sent you my name on a napkin, I had been noticing you for weeks. At first I saw your little notes every week, then I noticed how you always stared out the window on rainy days, and how you always smiled to yourself when you heard a child talking to their parents. I wasn't spying on you, I promise. I just... noticed. And I'm glad I did, because it made me realise just how wonderful of a person you are."
You were covering your face with a hand, stunned and flustered.
"And I... I think I won't be able to be just friends with you, Y/N. Cuz I like you. A lot. Do you... Would you like to try and, y'know, try and be something more with me?" He shyly produce the bouquet from behind his back.
You nodded fervently, accepting it. "I like you too, Woonhak."
From the doorway, Taesan grinned and did a tiny air pump, whispering to himself. "Bada bing, bada boom boom boom."

and he’s like ripping his mask and suit off while ur staring at him from the bed hella confused bc 1. why is spider-man robbing you and 2. why is your upstairs neighbor in your apartment. so you connect the dots meanwhile woonhak is wondering why is desk isn’t there and who put all those posters on his wall
and then u finally make eye contact , both having an “oh shit” moment , but he’s still focking shirtless so u kinda don’t know where to look (lmao) and that’s when he realizes he was so incredibly tired from patrolling that he missed his apartment by an entire floor. and his room is the one directly above yours.
but you guys aren’t close at all.. you only know of each others existence because you’ve had to knock on his door a few times in the early morning when you hear things thudding against his wall and clanking on the floor. so you’re about to scream because a man just broke in through your window, spider-man or not, that’s weird!! but woonhak doesn’t wanna be caught so he kinda.. webs your mouth shut but that only freaks you out more.
so he gets you to calm down and he has no choice but to explain the whole spider-man thing because he’d rather you be informed than run around confused telling people he yanked your window open… and once you two get to talking , woonhak realizes you’d be a helpful asset rather than a threat (like a man in the chair? kinda??) and decided to take you out the next morning as an apology for almost scarring you that night !

You groaned as you read over the email. One thing you hadn't realised when you majored in architecture was that there would be this many group projects. This time it was with partners, and the email didn't even tell you who by name.
"Please follow the schedule and arrive at the project room by 4.00. The work period will end at 6.00. Your partner will also attend at this time."
"IMPORTANT: The room must be cleared by 6.00 PM for the next group."
You lazily surveyed the content, groaning. 6 p.m.? You'd have to skip that meetup with your friends.

On the day that you started your project, you made your way to the project room. You checked the time: 6:05 p.m. You shrugged inwardly, hoping your new partner wouldn't mind a bit of tardiness.
When you entered the room, there was already someone sitting at the table. A man, apparently. You groaned to yourself.
"Hello," you started up. "I think we're partners."
The man turned, and you felt a physical jump in your heart. He had long hair, and he was wearing glasses.
Architecture just became much more interesting.
You introduced yourself, then listened as he told you his name. Leehan. What an interesting name.
The two began to brainstorm, coming up with a plan and a schedule for working on the project. Leehan was pretty work orientated, barely ever straying from talking about the project.
"So if you're always free on Tuesday evenings, we could... Do I have something on my face?" He had caught you staring for the thousandth time.
"Er, sorry. I have a tendency to zone out."
He giggled, his eyes crinkling. "You kinda look like a telescope goldfish."
You raised an eyebrow. "Um... Gee, thanks. Anyways, yes, I'm free Tuesdays."
As the project actually got into swing, you found yourself liking this guy a lot. He was quick, efficient, not too wordy, but also not cold. In fact, he radiated a certain warmth that had maybe been missing from your life for a bit too long.
When the clock hit 8:00, Leehan stood up, stretching. "Thanks for deciding to show up, by the way."
You frowned. "What? I never said I wouldn't show up."
Leehan just stared. "The professor told me that you were leaving on a trip? And that I'd be alone for this project."
You shook your head, eyebrows furrowed. When you checked your phone, you saw an email.
Your partner has informed me that you did not attend the meeting. Please provide a reason for your absence.
You stared at Leehan in shock before going back to the original email. Your mouth dropped in shock, eyes widening.
Leehan simply stared. You really did look like a telescope goldfish.
"I was supposed to come at 4:00! It ended at 6:00, not started! I read the time wrong!"
Leehan dropped back into his chair, considering this. "So what are we gonna do?"
You ran a hand through your hair. "I'll try and fix this, I'm so sorry—"
Leehan cut you off. "We're gonna do it together, though, right?"
You stared at him. "I'll talk to the professor and see what I can do."
He nodded. "Good. I..." He stared down at the pen he was twirling in his fingers. "I'm glad you were wrong. This was really fun."
You unashamedly blushed, fiddling with your own fingers. "Believe me, so am I."

And so here you were, a week later, going to meet a cute boy at a café thanks to your own stupidity.
The air was cold and frigid, snow threatening to fall as you pushed open the door and looked around. Leehan was already sitting, smiling and waving when he spotted you. You sat down, gratefully sipping the hot cocoa he had already ordered for you.
Leehan immediately started talking. "So, about that part of the project you were talking about wanting to fix—"
"Isn't the weather real chilly today? Geez, it may snow." You cut him off quick.
He smiled, raising his eyebrows. "No work talk at the café?"
You nodded, nudging him to sip his cocoa. He scoffed affectionately at your antics, picking up his cup.
You don't know how you and Leehan had grown so close over a single week. You had barely met up, and even then it was only at the project room for work. Sure, you had been texting nonstop since the first day when you exchanged contacts, but you had clicked with Leehan in a way that surpassed simple acquaintances.
"Han," you started, the nickname rolling off with ease. "D'you believe in the first snow stuff?"
He raised an eyebrow. "What stuff?"
You shrugged. "Y'know, if you see the first snow with someone you'll fall in love with them."
Leehan thought. "Last year I saw the first snow with my friend. Remember Taesan? He was the one who—"
"Okay, but like, if you see it with someone of the gender you're attracted to."
Leehan considered this. "I don't really remember. I never considered it a big deal. I guess I'm not that superstitious."
You shrugged again. "Suit yourself."
He leaned in. "Can I please ask one work related question?"
Your eyes narrowed. "Proceed."
"Was the plan you showed me going to be altered for a wider angle? Remember, we were talking about the obstruction in view."
You mulled this over, tilting your head. "I didn't think about that yet. Hmm..."
"It's alright then. Just focus on relaxing for now."
"No no, I want to finalize that."
Despite his protests, you began thoughtfully considering your options. As you did, your eyes naturally drifted to his face.
He was staring right at you. Perfect face. Perfect eyes. Perfect lips. Perfect everything. You made a noise of frustration. "I can't concentrate when you look at me like that."
He grinned. "Well, you should be concentrating on me instead, so..."
You scoffed. "Great, pretty boy's got a mouth on him."
He smiled, tilting his head. "You think I'm pretty?"
You raised an eyebrow. "Are you trying to flirt with me?"
"Is it working?"
You sighed, sipping your hot cocoa in an attempt to hide your rapidly reddening face. "Idiot," you muttered into the cup.
He giggled at you, reaching over to gently brush off a piece of lint on your shoulder.
You stared at him with horror. "There's no way there was actually something there."
He lifted his shoulders and outstretched his hands in a stance of defense. "There was lint! I swear there was lint!"
You were laughing your head off.
He smiled in a resigned way and slowly stood up. "Let's get going, then."
You nodded, throwing out your cup and looking out the café window.
Leehan looked with you. As the two stared outside, you saw a tiny particle drift onto the ground.
You gasped loudly, patting Leehan's arm frantically.
"What? What happened?" But then he saw too. It was snowing. The first snow of the year.
He turned to look at you, unashamedly grinning from ear to ear. You had turned fully red by now, but you were too amazed by the snow to care.
And as Leehan stared at your excited face full of wonder, he thought maybe he was a little superstitious.

Taesan sighed and downed another shot, head swimming from the drinks. Work wasn't easy, and his upcoming project was pretty much doomed. He squinted against the lights of the restaurant, barely sensing that someone had sat next to him.
He turned to see Bora, a member of his team at the company. She didn't look drunk. "Hi, San."
Taesan's brow furrowed. San? She didn't normally call him that. Too tired to question it, he simply nodded curtly. "Hello, Bora."
He expected her to offer some small talk and then leave, but she opened up her own bottle and settled in.
Even in his weary state, Taesan could tell this wasn't right. "Sorry, Bora, but I wanted to enjoy a drink alone today."
Bora looked at him, smiling. "Loosen up a little. We're all stressed about the same thing. Makes sense that we de-stress together—"
No way. "Sorry, Bora, but I don't want to. I have a girlfriend, and—"
Bora scoffed. "I wasn't curious. Jeez, who do you think you are? I just wanted to help you out a bit."
Taesan closed his eyes, seeing swirling colours in the darkness. "Uh... Sorry."
Bora tutted, pouring herself a drink. "No worries. Just drink. I won't even talk, promise."
Taesan finished up his cup as soon as possible, standing up and collecting his stuff.
"Gone so soon?" Bora was only slightly tipsy, a faint pink tint in her cheeks.
"I gotta get home. Goodnight, Bora."
"Goodnight, San."
The nickname still rubbed him the wrong way. He staggered outside, hurriedly calling a taxi and leaving you a message that he was coming home.

You were working on an assignment on your laptop when you heard the door open. "Min? You home?"
You hurried to the door, where Taesan promptly collapsed onto you, resting his head against your neck. "Hi, darling."
You make a noise of disbelief. "You're wasted. Here, sit, I'll get you water."
As Taesan draped himself across the couch, his mind swirled. Should he tell you about Bora? You'd want to know. But what if you got upset? He didn't think it was that serious, and he didn't want to upset you. He especially didn't want unnecessary drama alongside this horrible project.
That's it. Once the project was over, he'd mention it to you on the off-hand. Right now, he was sure he couldn't handle it. It wasn't like he cheated on you. Plus, Bora had mentioned that she had no interest in him, so maybe he was just imagining things in his intoxicated state.
Despite coming to this morally decent conclusion, he still felt a tinge of guilt as you wiped his sweaty forehead with a towel and helped him drink water. But he pushed it down, telling himself he had done nothing wrong.

As the days turned to weeks, the project showed no signs of being salvageable. To make matters worse, Bora was becoming more and more unbearable. She would constantly brush against Taesan as she passed by him. She'd also started asking him questions about his personal life, especially about his girlfriend.
"So how long have you been dating?"
Taesan raised an eyebrow. "I don't think that's an appropriate topic for work."
Bora laughed. "C'mon, we've been working together for a year. No need to be embarrassed if it hasn't been that long."
Taesan bristled. "It's been two years, actually. Now let's focus on the agenda, shall we?"
At home, Taesan kept fighting the urge to tell you. All he wanted was to finish this project, then he'd share everything with you. He felt an empty pit in his stomach everyday when you asked him what happened at work, and he answered "nothing much".
He shoved it all down; there was one week left, and then you'd know everything. And hopefully he'd somehow distance himself from Bora.

The week passed quick, and the project had turned out somewhat decent. This led to a traditional office dinner at a restaurant, where everyone, including the team leader, was intent on getting wasted.
Bora had sat at a corner, far away from Taesan. Feeling safe, he drank heartily at the long awaited end of a hellish project.
However, as time went on, people slowly started leaving. You had texted Taesan and said you'd come to pick him up, so he was awaiting your arrival. As he sat at the table, he felt a now annoyingly familiar presence next to him.
It was Bora. She looked thoroughly drunk. Taesan's head was also swimming, and he felt minutes away from blacking out.
She reached out a hand, grabbing his shirt. "What's up, San? You proud of yourself? We finished our project!" Bora swayed in her seat as she spoke. Taesan felt her grab his collar, pulling his face inches in front of hers.
"I'm proud of you," she whispered, leaning in till their lips were nearly touching.
Taesan's entire body was screaming to fight against this crazy lady. He made a gurgled noise of protest, but his face was frozen in place by an invisible force.
She leaned in, and Taesan was beginning to fully black out when he was brought back by a loud gasp.
His head turned to find you standing, horrified, at the doorway. His head was still swimming. Bora had detached herself from him, stepping back and heading out.
You stared at him for a second longer before leaving the restaurant.

That night a male friend had taken him to their house. You knew this because the friend had texted you. You scoffed at the message, realising that you couldn't care less.
The next day Taesan woke up horribly late. At first he panicked, scared he had missed work, but he remembered that the project was over. He had two days of rest before having to return to the office.
He then recalled the events of last night. He could barely remember most of it, but he knew Bora had done something disgusting, and you had happened to see it.
He was also sure you thought he had cheated on you.
He reached for his phone, ignoring the headache and typing out a message. Just a quick request to meet with you.
He wasn't surprised that the message didn't get delivered.
Sighing, he put his phone down. He should go back home and talk to you. He really should. But his head was throbbing, and he could barely bring himself to stand.
"Tomorrow," he muttered. "I'll go tomorrow."
Back at your house, you had no idea how to feel. Angry? Yes. Sad? Unfortunately so. Betrayed? Absolutely. You prepared the entire day on what to do when he returned and tried to explained to you. Should you hear him out?
Yes, you decided that you'd give him a chance. Maybe it was somehow not a kiss. Or you were hallucinating, or something.
Turns out your decision didn't matter. He never came. You stayed up till dawn, and there was nothing.
You went to sleep seething with many things, most specifically anger.

The following day, the doorbell rang around noon. You were at home, so you tiptoed to the door, eyes widening in surprise as you find the man of the hour standing sheepishly staring at you through the peephole.
You yanked the door open, raising an eyebrow at him. "Here to pack your stuff?"
He frowned at you. "Hey, hear me out. It wasn't like that—"
You scoffed. "I don't really need to hear anything, do I? I saw. What, it wasn't like that? D'you mean you go around making out with all your coworkers?"
Taesan made a noise of desperation. "You don't get it, I was drunk, I didn't mean to—"
"Didn't mean to? Being drunk is not an excuse, Min— Taesan. You literally kissed another girl and got caught by your girlfriend. If you had enough sense to remember that night, then that means you had enough sense to not cheat."
"Darling, please, it wasn't like that—"
"Don't. Don't you dare call me that."
Taesan groaned in frustration. "I'm telling you, I didn't— Hey!"
But you had already slammed the door in his face.
You slumped against the door, tears silently streaming down your face. Two years of trust, all gone to the dogs.
Taesan remained still on the other side of the door. Surprisingly, one of the biggest emotions he was feeling was... anger.
Two years of dating, and this is how much you trusted him? You hadn't even bothered to hear him out. Was this what you really thought of him?
He spoke to you through the door. "Y'know what? Fine. Have it your way. I'll come by tomorrow to pick up my stuff."
You let out a silent sob, pushing away from the door and locking yourself in your room.

A few weeks later, Taesan had fully moved out. At work, he became rude to everybody. He was downright cruel to Bora. Everyone avoided him, and he soon lost all his friends.
Months passed like this. He hasn't just lost you; he had lost everything he had. He had even lost his escape; ever since that night he hadn't touched a drop of alcohol.
Did he blame himself? Maybe. Slightly. Or maybe he blamed the alcohol. He tried his hardest to blame you, but it never worked out.
So when he sat at a café and saw you on your laptop in the corner, he wasn't exactly sure what to feel.
He watched you stare out the window, smiling in an exhausted sort of way. Despite it all, you didn't look too bad.
He wanted to storm across the room, slamming your laptop away and screaming about how difficult it had been for him. He wanted to fall to his knees and beg you to take him back, to save him from this mess he had become.
He wanted to take your hand, kiss the back of it like he used to, and pretend that he hadn't changed. That you hadn't turned him into this. He wanted to look into your beloved eyes and feel that everything was alright again.
Those same beloved eyes that were now wide open and staring directly at him.

You had known Riwoo was suffering for a long time.
There were good days, if you could call them that. Days when the pain was manageable enough for him to joke with you, watch a movie without losing focus halfway through, and complain about the food you ordered because apparently you had somehow managed to choose the worst thing on the menu again. Those were the days that made you hopeful. You could almost convince yourself that things might settle into something you could both live with.
Then there were the bad days.
On those days, Riwoo barely spoke. He would lie still for hours, his face drawn tight as he tried to endure the pain without letting you see how much it hurt. Sometimes you would wake during the night and find him staring at the ceiling, breathing carefully because even that seemed to hurt.
You would reach for him.
He would always whisper, “I'm okay.”
You stopped believing him a long time ago.
The worst part was that the bad days weren't the only days that hurt him anymore.
The pain was always there.
Some days it was a dull ache that he could tolerate. Other days it was sharp enough to make him grip your hand until his knuckles turned white. Sometimes medication helped. Sometimes it barely touched it. There were mornings when he woke already exhausted because he'd spent the entire night trying to find a position that didn't hurt.
And still, whenever you asked him how he was feeling, he would give you the same answer.
“I'm okay.”
You knew better.
You just didn't know what to do with that knowledge.
You could sit beside him. You could hold his hand. You could make sure he took his medication. You could drive him to appointments and bring him his favourite food afterward.
You could love him.
But you couldn't take the pain from his body and put it into yours.

One evening, after a particularly bad day, you found him sitting quietly by the window.
You approached him and rested your hands on his shoulders.
“Do you want to go to bed?”

His voice shook.

You stared at him.
He continued before you could interrupt.
“I'm tired of waking up hurting. I'm tired of wondering how bad the day is going to be. I'm tired of the good days being days when I can tolerate the pain instead of days when I actually feel good. I'm tired of watching you worry every time I go quiet because you're wondering whether something is wrong.”
His eyes filled.
“And I'm tired of being afraid of tomorrow.”
You couldn't speak.
“I know there are people who would tell me to keep fighting,” he said. “I know you would tell me that there are still good things waiting for me. I know there are people who would think I'm giving up.”
He looked at you.
“But I'm the one who has to wake up in this body every morning.”
You nodded through your tears.
“I know.”
“I need you to understand that.”
“I don't want to.”
“I know.”
He lifted your hand to his lips.
“But please don't think you weren't enough.”
That broke something inside you.
“Don't say that.”
“I need you to hear it.”
“You're everything to me.”
“I know.”
“Then stay.”
His eyes closed.
“I wish I could give you that.”
You leaned against him, crying quietly while he held your hand.
He didn't tell you the date.

You blinked your eyes open, feeling hard wood beneath you. Your body slowly rose, eyes squinting at the light.
When looking around, you saw a spacious room, decorated and illustrious. There were two doors on one side. One was white, the other black. There was also a table placed in the middle, on which sat an arranged game of Go.
Your eyes lit up with curiosity. You loved to play Go. And this was probably a dream, so it checked out that the game you loved was here.
Then you saw a foot peeking out behind the desk. When you leaned over to see, you scrambled back immediately.
They say it's impossible to dream new faces. Every face that appears in your imagination is a combination of faces you've seen before.
So where the heck did you see someone this handsome?
He had a chiseled jaw, with ebony black hair hooding his eyes. Perfect lips, perfect nose. You noticed a bandage and a strange black ornament decorating his hand.
Maybe this was a combination of celebrities you saw on TV. Yes, that had to be it.
You stared some more at his face, observing each curve and turn, when suddenly the eyes popped open.
You yelped, falling backwards and slamming your head against the wooden floor. That did not feel like a dream.
You felt him rise and sit up. "You're awake."
You stayed silent, unsure of what to do. Do you normally speak in dreams? And this is a lucid dream, if you weren't mistaken. So could you just do whateverm
"It's not a dream. Sit up." He deadpanned.
You sat up with hesitation. "Who are you?"
He seemed to ignore you, picking up a black piece and twirling it between his fingers.
"Rules are simple. You know how to play. If you win," he pointed to the white door. "You escape."
"If you lose..." His head tilted to the black door, and a chill ran down your spine. "You'll find out."
"But I— I didn't agree to this?"
He paid no heed to your words, setting the piece down. He then stared at you hard, and you felt more chills in your spine. "Your move."
You hesitantly placed a white piece down. It was just a dream, after all.
And so the game progressed.
It was the strangest and most nerve-wracking game you had ever played. Every time his pieces surrounded yours, you felt physical tremors. The black door seemed to glow and throb with the more area he captured. When he took a whole group of your pieces at once, you swore you heard faint voices shrieking in your ear.
You could feel an imaginary clammy hand wrapping it's grasp around your throat, and it became so clear.
You were playing for your life.
You had no real idea what was behind that door, but there was no mistake that you wouldn't leave unscathed. Every piece he captured, you could feel d£ath creeping closer. It was a surreal expression, and it shook your whole body.
He noticed you had stopped playing zoning out as you held a piece with a shaking hand. He raised an eyebrow. "Place it down."
You hurriedly placed it down, then suddenly began to think clearly. If there was actually serious danger involved, you had to win this. You didn't want to experience d£ath, even in a dream. Especially if it felt this real.
You assessed the board, eyes lighting up as you noticed a sure path to capture his pieces. You began playing more eagerly.
The man in front of you simply tilted his head at your new vigor, matching your moves with smart ones of his own.
When you captured a large area of his pieces, he winced as if it hurt him.
"My name is Myung Jaehyun." He spoke through gritted teeth, as if he was saying it against his will.
You raised an eyebrow. You were sure you hadn't asked. "That's... very nice. Your move."
The game progressed, and Jaehyun was losing. He made a noise of frustration; he seemed to have also realized there was no way to win. He looked up at you with a new sense of respect, sitting up straighter and concentrating harder.
The match ended. You smiled up at him. "I won."
He nodded, sliding something to you across the table.
You stared at it. It was a strange chip of some sort, with an odd pointed top and a square bottom.
You took it, twirling it in your fingers. "What's this?"
"The key to the Yin door. If you're holding it you can pass through."
You nodded. "So... I just go?"
He considered you. "Would you like to stay?"
Something about his gaze had gotten much less detached since he lost. He now seemed hyper focused, almost. It unnerved you.
You sprang to your feet. "Nope. No. I'm leaving."
You head to the white door. As you step towards it, the black door creaks open. You stare back at Jaehyun with wide eyes, but he simply matches your gaze. Unable to resist, you lean back and peek through the door.
You don't even comprehend what you see at first.
Eyeballs.
Hundreds of thousands of eyeballs, all moving around like crazy.
You hurriedly look away again, breathing heavily. What the heck did you just see?
You held the doorknob to the white door.
"Um, Jaehyun?"
He was silent, but you knew he was listening.
"What would've happened if I had lost?"
You turned your head back to watch him.
"You would've stayed," he replied. Then he smiled. A chilling, bloodcurdling smile. "And joined my collection."
You couldn't think straight. You yanked the door open and hurled yourself past it. You entered a world of black.

Life was tough these days. Jaehyun scrolled through his phone against his own good sense, trying not to be affected by all the hate on his screen. People were trashing him for everything. His past part-time jobs, that one accident at that music show, and even his sprained ankle.
When he got off work that day, he quietly said bye to the members and went to your shared house. The members wanted to talk to him, but they decided he needed space.
Once he arrived, he said a quick hello to you and headed to the bathroom. You continued with the dishes, wanting to give him time alone. You had noticed how tired he was these days.
In the bathroom, Jaehyun washed his face with ice cold water, trying to feel at least a tiny bit better. He looked at himself in the mirror, but immediately looked away.
He hated what he saw.
Maybe they were right. Even he knew that he made horrible mistakes sometimes. What stared back at him in the mirror was an ungrateful, undeserving little boy who was fooling everyone by pretending to be worthy of his title; leader of BOYNEXTDOOR. One of the biggest groups in its generation. This was what their leader was like? Who would even like a group if the leader was such a weak, fragile crybaby?
He groaned at the dull pain in his ankle, lightly kicking it against the cabinet. He hissed in pain and looked up again: big mistake. Now he just seemed like an idiot.
What would the members say? What would his girlfriend say? He was locked up in a bathroom, kicking his sprained ankle and crying like a baby. How more pathetic could he get?
Soon, more tears started to well, until they fell freely down. Jaehyun attempted to stop his spiralling, but it was no use. His breathing came out shorter, and he started feeling lightheaded. He began inhaling in quick, hurried, and loud gasps, trying to regain his breath. He held his hand to his mouth, trying to stifle the noise. He didn't want to worry you. Spit and snot leaked onto his fingers, muffled noises escaping him.
You had walked to the bathroom to see what was taking him so long, and you immediately recognised the sounds. You knocked on the door immediately.
"Jaehyun, love. Open the door."
He grabbed at the handle, hands shaking and slipping. Broken gasps escaped his mouth.
You quickly took out a pin and screwed with the easy lock until the door fell open. You were met with Jaehyun bent over the sink, hyperventilating and trying to hang on as his knees buckled. You gently patted his back.
"Hey, hey. I'm here. I'm here. Just breathe."
Tears fell down his face into the sink as he struggled. You softly guided him to turn around to face you, gently cupping his face before giving him a hug. "You're okay, love. I got you."
He cried into your shoulder as you kept mumbling sweet phrases into his ear, not caring that your shirt was getting stained with his tears, spit, and snot.
After a few minutes, his breathing became more stable and he sobbed freely into your neck. You continued your soft reassurances, gently patting his back. After a while, he quieted, pulling away to look down at you.
"I'm an idiot," he muttered.
You immediately shook your head. "You are so, so brave for putting up with everything. The world doesn't deserve you, Jae." You reach up a hand to stroke his face, leaning in to kiss his nosebridge.
You get a tissue and gently wipe his face and hand, still mumbling affirmations to him. He had stopped crying now, only letting out small sniffles every once in a while.
Once you were done, you cupped his face. "What do you need right now?"
He sighed, reaching to rub your sides. "Cuddles. A lot of them."
You laughed, kissing him again, on the corner of his mouth. "That can be arranged."
As you led him slowly to the comfy couch, he couldn't help but get lost in thought.
Yes, the world was unfair. And yes, he was one of its centrepieces; he won't ever go a single day without someone telling him his faults. He won't go a single day without wondering if they're right. But through all that, he has a shining star beside him. Six of them. Five goofy members to back him up, and one bright little ball of joy that would do anything for him, whether that be cuddling for hours, or standing still in a bathroom while his tears and snot leaked onto your shirt.
And when you flopped on the couch and spread out your arms for him, he felt that maybe this was exactly how he wanted it to be.

At rehearsals, you sat patiently waiting for him to arrive. The door opened and a group of staff followed in.
When you normally imagined famous idols off-camera, you expected them to be very low energy. Not necessarily rude, but just on power saving mode. That was what most of your members were like.
But boy was this guy different.
He yelled out greetings brightly, bowing to the four corners of the room in a full 90 degrees. You stood up and bowed back, eagerly greeting in return. Ain't no way you were being beaten at respect by a senior.
He bowed lower than you, to which you bowed even lower. The two kept bowing lower and lower until you both were basically on the ground. The crew laughed, angling the behind camera at the two of you.
When you both got up, he bowed politely again. "Hello! I'm Woonhak from BOYNEXTDOOR."
You bowed too. "Nice to meet you! I'm Y/N from Y/G/N. I look forward to working with you!"
After that, the rehearsal went smoothly.

You kept reading over the cue cards, muttering to yourself. Eventually, a hand came and lowered them from your eyes. You were met with Woonhak's grinning face.

You felt the world slow down, and then turn sideways.
You had closed your eyes for an impact, but it never came. When you opened them, Woonhak was holding you with a look of pure panic on his face, his hand wrapped around your waist.
The moment lasted exactly one second.
His hand was immediately off you, gently grabbing your arm to steady you instead.
"You okay?" He asked, still smiling and continuing the script.
"I'm fine, thank you! Now, coming up in this next stage..."
When the camera turned off, the fans all "oooh" ed at you, to which Woonhak just grinned and waved them off. You stood shock still.
You were popular enough to know what a hate train was like. And if it involved a male idol as well-known as Woonhak?
Your blood ran cold. You weren't established enough yet. A scandal or issue caused because of this could ruin your whole career. Your group's whole career.
When the camera turned on again, Woonhak was as smooth as ever.
"Wasn't that an amazing stage? I feel like my heart's still bursting from all that excitement. I think we need to cool down a bit now, right Y/N ssi?"
"Yeah! Um... we..." The words were in front of you, but your brain was spiralling. "Lemonade.."
The crew started murmuring, and Woonhak immediately jumped in. "Lemonade? Do you mean the song by aespa sunbaenim?"
You nodded quickly. "Yes! That... That's the perfect song to cool off. Geez, it's hot in here."
Woonhak couldn't stop a small smile of genuine adoration crossinghis face as you butchered your lines. The camera cut off, and you immediately dropped your head in your hands as the fans watching, both yours and his, shouting out that it was okay.
He made a noise of sympathy and held out a hand to pat your shoulder, then thought better of it.
After that, the eventful day eventually came to an end.
But the impact that moment had left on the K-pop community certainly hadn't.
In a matter of days, X was trending your names. Everywhere you went, there was a clip of Woonhak catching you by the waist. People changed their profile pictures to it. Dedicated fanbases sprung up, uncovering every single moment you two had "interacted" (Although you swore you had only met him at Inkigayo).
Slowly but surely, it became impossible to ignore. Woonhak's Weverse Live messages were bombarded with your name.
He read them slowly, a small smile on his lips. "Y/N? My MC partner? Yeah, she was fun to work with. You guys liked that day a lot, huh? Was it the outfit? I think the outfit was really cool. I also had a lot of fun that day."

Woonhak shimmied his shoulders. "Come on, it'll be fun~. This is the thrill needed for our ultimate bestie trip!"
Everyone sighed but helped with creating popsicle sticks with matching symbols. Eunchae rolled her eyes. "I'm not this childish, by the way."
Woonhak stuck his tongue out at her.
Soon, the lots were being drawn. Jaehyun got paired with Woonhak. He leapt up and hugged him, ignoring the younger's wails of despair. You cakcled, pointing at him. "Serves you right."
The rooms were soon decided: Yunjin and Eunchae were together. Taesan was with Kazuha, Riwoo was with Sakura, and Chaewon was with Sungho. Everyone was yelling with excitement at each pairing.
There were only two people left, so it was obvious who you'd be paired with. You glanced up at Leehan, and he gave you a shy grin before picking up the remaining stick.
"Is this even right? Why are we pairing guys with girls?"
"Eyyy, nothing will happen. We're all friends here. Unless you like Leehan or somethi—" Woonhak was promptly punched in the gut by Eunchae.
"K, well. Taesan, you're in charge of booking rooms. I can't wait, guys!" Chaewon cried. The others joined in, and Taesan nodded with a sly smile on his face.

The day of the trip arrived, and you had made up your mind about having to room with Leehan. Nothing bad could happen, really.
You had forgotten that his devilish best friend had been in charge of the room booking.
When the group of 12 arrived at the hotel, it was still the afternoon. There was a nice pool outside, and it was good weather. Everyone knew their room number already; Taesan had been weirdly specific in making sure everyone got a certain room. After checking in, the group dispersed to go check out the room they'd spend two nights in.
You and Leehan were on the same floor as Taesan and Kazuha, as well as Woonhak and Jaehyun. Your room, however— room 33— was in a separate hallway, detached from the others. You raised an eyebrow at it, but Leehan just shrugged, considering the heart on the doorknob a silly design and unlocking the door to step in.
You watched him, brow furrowing when he walked in and simply stopped in the hallway. He was as still as a statue, creepily so.
"Leehan? You good?"
You slowly made your way in behind him, peeking past him at the room.
Your face lost all colour, and you involuntary let out a swear.
The bed had rose petals arranged in a heart, there was a mirror on the ceiling, there was a jacuzzi visible from the bathroom— there was no mistaking it.
This was not a normal hotel room.
You shrieked, loudly. The others heard the noise and rushed in, all gasping at the room.
Leehan was still unmoving, although his neck and ears were growing redder by the second.
You turned to Taesan in fury. His mouth was open in a perfectly constructed little O, barely hiding his cackles of joy. "What the hell is this?"
He shrugged. "Oops. Well, enjoy the room."
"What?! No! Kazuha, please come room with me here. Leehan can go with Taesan."
Kazuha shook her head, trying to hide her grin at your predicament. Was she in on it too? "I don't wanna be in a love room with you??"
Eventually, you had gone through all the options: there was no way out. Taesan's prank was foolproof. You yelled curses at the group until they left, then turned to Leehan. "Um..."
He broke his stupor to look at you, rubbing his neck with a hand. "Any ideas?"
You sighed. "We don't really have any option, huh? Geez, I hate that guy."
He laughed lightly, then attempted to survey the room again. He immediately stopped; it was way too overwhelming. "I guess we could make it work..."
You nodded, staring at the ground. You walked to the bed and dusted the petals off with a vigour. "Stupid roses," you muttered.
Leehan laughed, putting his suitcase down. "Well, we'll deal with the room at night. Let's get ready to swim."
You nodded, and the two took turns in the washroom to come out changed. You both headed down together, him in a black swim shirt and shorts, you in something quite similar.
The group met at the lobby. Most of the girls were wearing modest swimsuits like you. The boys also had similar fits to Leehan. Woonhak was still cackling at your room situation.
Jaehyun intervened. "I mean, if you want, I would love to switch rooms with you."
You raised an eyebrow. "You want to sleep in the love room with Leehan?"
Jaehyun thought. "I originally meant Woonhak, but that works too!"
Both Leehan and Woonhak immediately protested.

The pool was fun. It took your mind off things, and you actually had a good time. Leehan seemed to also calm down.
You were still mad, though. You splashed Taesan whenever you were close enough to him, and eventually Leehan had to hold you back through laughter.
When the sun started setting, the group began to grow tired. Everyone decided it was time to wrap up.
Up in your room, you motioned for Leehan to shower first.
"You sure?" At your nod, he quickly headed inside. You sat on the bed, too tired to react to this stupid situation.
When he got back, towel in hand and hair dripping, you headed in and showered too. You groaned when you realized you had grabbed a particular set of pyjamas: pink with teddy bears.
You stepped out, and he fought a smile at the sight of you.
You glared. "Don't laugh, Chaewon gave me these."
He nodded. "Yes ma'am."
You sat next to him on the bed, laying down with a grunt.
"They're cute."
"Leehan."
"Sorry."
You sat up. "How are we sleeping?"
"Wha-what?"
You gestured. "It's only one bed."
Leehan silently pointed at the couch.
You grimaced. "I don't think that's meant for sleeping."
He winced, then considered the bed. "I mean, in that logic, this bed is definitely big enough for two people."
You raised an eyebrow. "You sure?"
He shrugged. "If you're cool with it. We can lay a pillow between us. For a border."
You nodded, smiling. You reached for the bedside drawer, opening it to put your phone in. You recoiled in disgust when you were met with condoms and a bottle of lube.
Leehan noticed. "What's up? Are there bugs?"
"Worse," you muttered as he leaned over you to look. He silently grabbed a condom, ignoring your wide eyes of shock. He inspected it.
"It expires in a month. D'you think they replace them before they expire?" He threw it back inside, leaning back down in bed.
You scoffed. "I almost forgot that you were such an oddball. Thanks for reminding me."
"You're welcome. Don't tell any of the guys there are condoms in here. They'd all try and get some for no reason."
You nodded, subconsciously laying right beside him. "That is, indeed, the maturity level of our friend group." You stared up at the mirror greeting you. "Jeez, the mirror is the worst part."
Leehan laughed in agreement. "It's kinda hard to ignore."
You grinned. "Mirror selca, perhaps?"
His eyes widened, but he nodded with a small smile.
You took out your phone and aimed it at the ceiling, throwing up a V. Leehan did the same.
"There. Now we have a wonderful keepsake for this... interesting memory."
He nodded, staring at you through the mirror. "Ready for bed?"
"Yup. Should I get the lights?"
"Go for it," he grunted, shifting with his hand under his head.

You woke up in his arms, being met with the very romantic sight through the mirror. Your body froze as your breath hitched. You gently attempted to detach yourself, but he simply tightened his arm around you, grunting in his sleep.
You groaned inwardly, then carefully wiggled out of his embrace in 10 whole agonizing minutes.
When you finished washing up, he was sitting on the bed, staring into nothing. "Leehan? You good, bud?"
He simply turned his head to stare at you. "We forgot the border pillows, didn't we?"
You grinned sheepishly. "Yeah. So, we don't tell anyone about this?"
He nodded gravely. "Not a word."
You smiled, beckoning him to go wash up. Once he left, you sat on the bed. Wasn't your life just splendidly exciting?
And wasn't he just stupidly gorgeous?
You grunted at the thought, sprawling back down into the bed.
In the shower, Leehan's thoughts weren't much better.
He had been half awake and had peacefully noticed you in his arms. Now, he remembered vividly. A blush ran through him as he recalled the image on the mirror above him: you cradled into his chest with his arm around you.
He turned the shower knob, opting for cold water.

There were very few things you loved: cats, coffee, and your best friend of five years.
It just so happened that he was obsessed with the thing you hated.
"Come onnnn, just one game," he whined, pulling your hoodie arm and letting it loose over and over again.
You sighed, closing your laptop. This was supposed to be an at-home study session, but Jaehyun had just been droning on about the World Cup since the moment he arrived. Every five seconds, he'd scroll on his phone and go "I'm gonna explode," and you'd have to reassure him that it's not that deep.
"Why the hell," you yank his hand off you. "Would I sit and watch a bunch of men sweat on a screen?"
He props his head on his hands, lying stomach down on your bed. "What if they were hot men sweating on a screen?"
You laughed. "So that's why you watch that stuff. Happy pride month." You stood up, but he grabbed your arm and pulled you down again.
"Come onnn, just once. You'd be the nicest person in the world. You'd be my little pretty princess. I'll be so nice to you for the rest of your life."

You watched lazily from the bed, but shook your head in horror when he stood up. He was holding an identical red jersey, smiling deviously.
You shot up from the bed. "Nuh uh. I just said watching. I am not wearing that."
Jaehyun's smile didn't break an inch. "Oh yes you are."
And so the chase began.
You leapt to the door and bolted out of the room, Jaehyun following close behind. You ran through the halls at lightning speed, swerving around and eventually reaching your room again. You zoomed in, trying to close the door in his face, but he grabbed the handle in time and pushed it open, stepping in and closing it shut behind him.
You backed up into the room, hanging your head in defeat as he pulled the jersey on over you, grinning in satisfaction. He adjusted the sleeve and collar proudly. "Look at you. Red's really your colour."
You grumbled and sat down on the floor. "When does this thing start?"
He sat next to you, still staring at you in your new outfit. "Soon. 5 minutes?"
You nodded, playing with the hem of your new shirt. Red's your colour?
Jaehyun soon leapt up in excitement. "It's starting! The game's starting!"

As the game went on, you couldn't even pretend to be enjoying yourself. When a team scored, you clapped politely while Jaehyun shrieked and howled. You really were just doing this for his sake.
Soon, Jaehyun seemed to realize how low energy you were. He himself was getting pretty tired. He slowly inched towards you, and eventually, he was right beside you, shoulders practically touching. At one point in the game, he gently reached over and tilted your head onto his shoulder.
You stared up at him in confusion, but he pretended to be invested in the game. You could feel his heartbeat. Why was it so fast? Was the game that exciting?
After that, every time Team Korea scored, he would gently laugh, occasionally reaching up to pat your head or shoulder. When the other team scored, he'd groan and gently rub your arm.
At this point, you were more alert than you had ever been while watching a sport. Every time he touched you, you prayed he wouldn't catch your slight tremble.
The game eventually ended, with Team Korea winning. Jaehyun let out a bunch of whoops, falling back to rest his head against the foot of the bed. "See. It's 'cause you watched. You're the country's lucky charm."
You laughed at his absurdity. "What do we do now?"
He smiled, gently pulling you to him. Your head landed on his chest, his arm coming to wrap around your shoulder. "Now, we sleep."
As your best friend drew small circles into your shoulder for the next hour, you couldn't help but think that maybe football wasn't all that bad.
