12, 32 and ALSO: What pushes you to open a fic? What aspects will most make you keep reading
12. What turns you away the most from a fic?
If I see gore, sexual violence or incest in the warnings, I immediately turn away.
If I’ve started reading a fic, mischaracterizations will cause me to give up on it--especially self-insert Kurt.
Oh, and cop-out summaries that tell me nothing about the fic, or include the author’s insecurities about the fic. If an author thinks their story “sucks,” I believe them and move on.
32. Favorite AU tropes?
Answered. :)
What pushes me to open a fic?
If I’m a fan of the author, I’ll read almost anything they write. If someone I trust recommends a fic, I’ll read it.
Otherwise, I will open a fic when I like the summary. Sometimes, I don’t need to know the gist of the story. Just give me a taste of what I can expect. I love it when an author communicates tone in their summary. A perfect example of this is the summary for one of my old-school Klaine fic faves, All the Good Ones by AubreyLi: “Professor Anderson is one hot piece of ass.” Yup. Sign me up.
When I first started reading Klaine fanfic back in the spring of 2011, I loved the summaries for fic written by Skintightsocks and @wordplaying and other writers who turned out great stuff in the heyday of the Kurt_Blaine Livejournal. There was a wit and playfulness in the fic then, reminiscent of the show itself.
I’d love some recs for new stuff. If anyone has a new favorite author or fic, let me know. :)
