Hey guys, please don't put asks in my inbox about the "manwhore au". It makes me highly uncomfortable. Bit of a rant below the cut, TW for discussion of rape & noncon.

This AU, by definition, has Odysseus being sexually coerced. It is non-con, because the reason he seduces Zeus? Is to literally save the lives of himself and his crew. Ring a bell? A bell named, say, Circe? A bell named Calypso?

I do not deal in rape/non-con elements. I do not call people who give up the sancitiy of their bodies in order to preserve the sanctity of their very lives WHORES. Not even for a meme- y'know what? ESPECIALLY not for a meme. I find it abhorrent that there's such a lack of understanding of consent here.

There's already constant need to educate on the realities Odysseus faced in the actual Odyssey. The only humor I find here is grim, because it is yet another instance- this one contrived by a fandom purported to be wholesome!- of Odysseus being called whore, cheater.

I've blocked the tags, and hope you will respect this boundary I have laid.

Based off of the hot tub scenes we know it isn't, well, hiding anything like say a brand of control or

But the fact that he wants to cover a vulnerable spot - his throat - tells a lot about him to me. Other Gods have jewelry or some such covering the area, but it's very obviously ornamental. I find it incredibly intriguing that Odysseus has such a practical design, between the himation and the armour.

Also, he's hot. Ehehheheh.

Fun fact I've been dealing with inflammation of the bones in my right wrist and left handed knuckles (basically arthritis from overuse bc of work. Ugh. My ambidexterity did not save me) and so me finally being able to write again is a pure joy even if it hurts a little lol

I'm currently 3.3k words and I still haven't gotten through all of what I want to cover 😭👍

allow yourself to be a little arrogant! if you were to claim that you know more than most people about a specific character from greek mythology, which character would it be?

Oh jeez. Oh god

The problem is that most people I PERSONALLY know probably know more about Odysseus (I have a lot of research friends... I love you, research friends) but I'll still have to say Odysseus. One thing I think I'm very good at is having a grasp of his character and motivations, to the point I can put him in Situations and still know what he'll do.

Admittedly, this means I have a very specific vision of Odysseus for each specific work- my different fics pull from different sources, and therefore the "Odysseus" in each is also different!

I'm very much a study of the human condition, and I specialize in putting characters in their historic or otherwise context while still having them be palettable to modern audiences.

I don't know if you're watching the news right now in America on the election, but...I think I'm having an anxiety attack.

I don't watch the news on the election until like, Thursday lmao. I've voted, I've done my part, and now I must make peace with it. There's not a whole lot I can do stressing about it. Plus, the mail in votes aren't always counted on Tuesday, and usually take a few days to get through.

what’s your favorite fictional trope?

Accidentally sent me this twice, lovey! I see you're going around asking this question, and I had to give it a bit of a think, myself.

I honestly don't know if this is necessarily a trope, but the idea of duty, honour, and love intersecting. Love bound up by duty, duty bound up in love, honour defined by love and duty, duty in spite of honour, what is honourable being done in spite of love... one of my favourite classics is actually The Song of Roland, if that tells you anything. A close second is the Odyssey, then the Iliad, and then Beowulf, etc...

I think the idea of someone being so in love they give up honour and duty, or so duty bound they must forsake honour and love... or someone honourable but because of that unlovable, untrustworthy of being given a duty? It's just so perfect a combination.

Being so strong, but willing to bend and be soft for love... that, out of all the combinations I listed, is probably my favourite fiction trope.

“Nothing at all,” Penelope murmured, smiling in that quiet way of hers, nymph-teeth needlepoints glinting in the slash of sun that reached her in the shadows of the palace.

“Nothing, dearest heart?” Odysseus brought his free hand up, messing Telemachus’s curls into a tangled nest. Telemachus yelped as he was then released, stumbling on his own two feet as Odysseus stalked forward. “Nothing at all?”
