Had a lady last night who when she askedfor help proceeded to make me pick stuff off the shelf to show her. She needed some label printer that printed big labels but apparently none of what we had was “big enough”. After about a minute of showing her the picture on the box that show’s actual size she must’ve thought i was lying about the sizes because she started asking if we could open the packages to see what it looks like inside.
After i said no because she’d have to buy it first (this is company policy, plus it’d be one thing if she wanted to peek at a package she KNEW she wanted, but she was going down the shelf wanting to see ALL of the packages) she started to argue with me that “she’s a potentially paying customer” and “how is she supposed to know if she can’t see inside????” I just showed her the picture of the actual size again. Eventually she finds an already broken package and says “can I at least open THIS one? It’s already broken and I won’t lose MY job over it?” (As in bc she didnt work here she had no risk of being fired so she should be allowed to open it)
I knew that if i gave in at this point she’d just start trying to cause some real damage to the rest of them so i simply said no and called the manager over. She really thought that if i let her open hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise that I wouldn’t lose my job “even though she was opening them and not me”
🙄 god I’m so tired of people thinking that “I might be buying stuff in your store today” is a valid reason for letting them do whatever they want and not them completely disregarding all of the other paying customers who are also trying to buy stuff. If all those packages are open, ESPECIALLY during a pandemic, nobody will buy them. And since i knew everything was the wrong size anyway, why would i let her break packages i knew she wasn’t going to buy?
