I know a few of you have asked about the organization I will be working and traveling through. Workaway is an international initiative that connects volunteers with hosts in a variety of fields, including farming, hospitality, childcare, art, and health services. Usually you'll trade 20-25 hours of volunteer work for lodging and meals. Unique to these websites, Workaway allows you to view the host list without being a member (you have to join for a small annual fee in order to contact a host/volunteer, but being able to see your options before you join is a major advantage to most sites).
Feel free to check out the site if work trade sounds like an option you'd like to pursue.
Proof that it's cheaper to fly to Dublin than Maui. Still, this doesn't sway me one way or the other. I wish it would. (Also, if I took WOW Air, I'm sure I could find something cheaper than this to Dublin.)
I'm considering back up Workaway or WWOOFing options if Hawaii is not financially feasible. My second choice would be Vermont. And perhaps after that would be California or Colorado, Oregon or Washington. Does anyone have any experience with Workaway/WWOOFing in any of these areas?
So I'm all in: I'm officially a member of WWOOF Hawaii, HelpX, and Workaway. I'm psyched to discover opportunities through these organizations. However, if any of you have connections in Maui, I'd love to connect! My main interests are in permaculture, but I'd also like to spend my free time working to organize beach cleanups and volunteering in the community. If you have connections in these realms, I would be eternally grateful if you could connect us. Please and thank you fam! 🤙🏼
I’m interested in farming in Hawaii, or working directly with indigenous people and the land. If anyone has any other ideas, insight, or leads on how I could get involved with these endeavors in Maui, I’d love if you could reach out to me. I’ve thought that WWOOFing was the main way to go, but if there are similar opportunities outside of WWOOFing, I’m open to them as well.
If you know anything, I’d love to hear from you.
Thank you!
