I have to learn an entirely new system well enough to give an assessment of whether it can be implemented on the system I've been helping build. It is entirely different than what I've been working on. WTActualF?!

So I work at a chain coffee shop/bakery, and I’ve felt for a while now that my store is treated poorly by corporate. It really feels like this is at LEAST in part because ~50% of our staff is black. A lot of our customers are too, despite being situated between two white suburbs.

Today really illustrated that for me. This morning our manager is told some sort of event is happening at our store, a competition of some kind for bakers. Each DM selected someone from their region. Corporate people are suddenly coming in to set up, and as usual we’re getting treated like shit. Our tip jars are cups an employee spent time decorating with rhinestones. While I was talking to my manager someone from corporate just. Threw it at me. I think she was aiming for the trash. She doesn’t apologize. She just says we aren’t allowed to put anything on the cups.

Another person from corporate comes through our drive through and asks for fifteen dozen donuts. We think he’s joking at first. Dead serious- and my coworker got in trouble for trying to say we can’t do that.

Forty or so people end up gathering in the store for this thing. I should mention they’re almost all white, and none of the higher ups speak with a regional accent (where I live our regional accents associated with being poor/working class). They shut down our lobby and people are actively leaving the drive thru because they can barely order with all the noise. They start the whole thing by talking about a baking technique created by a woman from specific (black) neighborhood in the city, and how “today’s bakers carry on this tradition”.

To explain the race thing a bit, I always get the feeling our DM thinks our staff looks too “ghetto”. Whenever girls that work here fight, the white girls get off with a warning and the black girls are fired or just get sick of it and quit. Our black GM was also recently fired for reasons none of us are privy to. We have a (black) baker that would’ve been a great candidate for this competition, I feel like at the very least he could’ve been included alongside our district’s other competitor? This whole thing was mostly just for fun and we got literally nothing out of this, if anything our store actively suffered.

I’m so fucking tired. They ride our store so hard for nothing. They get on us about a lot of bs while doing things like shutting us down for several hours with practically no notice for events we aren’t even included in. What the fuck man.
