Coworker: "Do we have a story for user greed"?

Greed? Even though this is investment industry, I thought that we referred to our users' motivations with more polite euphemisms.

I look up at the screen. Oh, he meant "grid". User grid! Whew.

Thank you for the ask! I usually don't like doing financial-related questions but since this was just a vibe check I felt okay doing it!

Saw that post saying 'explain your job in the simplest/worst way possible' the other day, but I don't know where to find it again. And today has very determinedly reminded me of this:

My job - Explaining to people from other countries who think they speak my native tongue - that I have a literal degree in - more fluently than I do, that no, in fact, they do not.

Work-related rant

So we’ve got this one publisher in UK we get a couple journals from for the library. And without a fail every single time when it’s time for the renewal of the subscriptions, I’ve got to deal with the exact same problem they cause

The invoice (which comes always so fucking late - like a whole month after it’s been issued - that we always get reminders) lacks our VAT number.

The VAT number is absolutely necessary to pay a bill from a foreign country as a company. Even if that other country is a member of the EU as well. 

Without the VAT number, our finance department can’t pay the invoice. That specific publisher is already infamous at the finance department (and we aren’t the only institution they have to pay bills for since it’s the finance department of our parent company and we’re not the only semi-independent-but-still-belonging-to-them-sub-company they have.) for never adding the VAT number.

So every year, I have to write the publisher a mail to tell them “We’re sorry but we can’t pay your bill because YOU ONCE AGAIN FORGOT THE FUCKING VAT NUMBER” - only in polite. 

One might think they’d get the hang of this issue after and simply fucking add the VAT number to our account that we of course have but nope. They don’t get it.

I'm going to try to start getting on here again a bit more. Starting with sharing my great news! This week I used part of my tax return to pay off one entire student loan (9 more and $28.5k to go). Then I got news of a raise of 5% of my total salary last year AND a $5k bonus. And this morning I gave a training to my manager and co-workers based on part of what I do for Anthem and my team.

Mister and I also started looking for models for our chain bondage book and I've had more than half a dozen people reach out already in the last few days. I hope to get a lot more diversity but I'm also just glad of the positive interest.

I've also been building a computer when I could afford parts and with that bonus I'll be able to finish the build and get all the fun lights and OS and programs too.
