This is my first actual long oneshot so bare with me if it’s awful lolol.
It was the third day in a row that Dean had been awoken by the loud machine sounds coming from outside his window. The city decided to have an art museum built right next to his apartment complex. He wouldn’t mind it if only they didn’t start their work at 6 a.m. everyday.
“Damn it! Can’t a guy get his four hours of sleep?” Dean muttered to himself in his pillow.
He slowly untangled himself from the warmth of his covers and slumped out of bed. His room was unusually cold this morning so he stepped into the hall and turned the heat up a few notches. As he walked to the kitchen, his stomach growled.
“Yeah yeah I hear ya.” Dean said aloud. “Let’s see what my fridge has to offer me today.”
He opened the door to his fridge and looked inside disappointingly. All he had was a half eaten sub from the night before and a jug of milk.
Must be time to make a run. He thought to himself.
Dean went into his room and changed into an old pair of jeans and a basic t-shirt. He threw a red flannel on over the t-shirt and slipped into some boots that were lying by the door. After he brushed his teeth, he started to grab his keys to the Impala off the side table but took a look out his window and decided against it.
“I think i’ll just walk today. It seems pretty sunny outside and I could use the exercise.” He said as he opened the door and walked out.
Dean took his usual route to the store but when he got there it was closed. He looked at his watch and noticed it read 6:45 a.m.
Wow i’m dumb. Of course no place is gonna be open this early in the morning. I’ll just swing back by later. He thought.
Dean had plenty of time to kill, so instead of going straight home on his usual route, he decided to take a longer way. He strolled through the park and passed all the little antique shops. There was a nice breeze out and the leaves on the trees were calmly swaying back and forth. He was nearing his home when he noticed a detour sign on the sidewalk because of the construction that was happening.
Detour: Left the sign read. Dean went the way the sign was telling him to go, even though all he had to do to get home was step over the caution tape. He had plenty of time to kill so he did as told. The detour had him strolling right passed the new museum that was being built. Only three workers were on site and two of them were at the end of the crane just chatting it up with some coffee in their hand. The other worker was on top of the half constructed building. He seemed to be laying out some long pipes. Dean couldn’t help but notice how attractive the guy on top of the building was. He couldn’t see much of him, but what he did see, he liked. The guy on the building turned around and caught sight of Dean. Dean didn’t notice that he had stopped walking to gawk at the guy and immediately felt embarrassed. He turned away and started walking at a quick pace passed the building.
“Hey! *whistles*” Dean spun around and looked at the top of the building where the whistle came from.
The man atop the building was waving at Dean and smirking.
“Did that man just wolf whistle at me?” Dean whispered to himself. He awkwardly waved back at the handsome man and started to turn away.
“Awh come on now! Not gonna whistle back at me?” The man on the building sarcastically yelled.
Dean stood there feeling both flattered but uncomfortable. He had never been hit on by a guy before, especially someone that good looking.
“Uh, I uh,” Dean stuttered. “I actually don’t know how to whistle...”
“Oh, so you’re saying that if you could whistle, then you would whistle back at me?”
“Uhm, yeah? Sure I guess?” Dean was feeling very odd about the whole situation. “Sorry... I- I have to go!” As Dean was turning back around to head home he could hear the guy atop the building laughing slightly.
Dean finally arrived back home within minutes. He opened the door to his apartment and crashed over on the couch. The walk he took had made him slightly tired.
Dean awoke an hour or so later. He had a dream about his awkward encounter from earlier in the day.
“Why would I dream about that?” Dean curiously asked himself but just brushed it off. He checked the clock on the wall. The time was 9:00 a.m.
"I could go for some coffee right now, and I still need to make that grocery run.” This time, Dean opted on taking his car instead of walking so he could avoid another awkward encounter with the attractive man on the building.
He walked outside and hopped into his Baby.
“Coffee first, groceries later.” Dean hated grocery shopping so decided to procrastinate that task for as long as he could.
He drove for a couple blocks then spotted his favorite cafe’. Sweet Eden Coffee Bar is what the large sign had written on it. A few of the neon letters were out so it really said Swet Een Coffee Ba, but Dean didn’t care as long as they still served his favorite coffee. He parked in the farthest empty spot so no one could scratch up his car and got out.
There was no line when Dean entered the cafe’ and only a few customers were scattered about at the tables.
“Ah, can I get one large peppermint coffee with a vanilla creamer and 5 spoonfuls of sugar please?” Dean ordered.
“Sure! That’ll be two dollars and eighty-seven cents!” The cashier beamed. Dean gave her five dollars.
“Keep the change.” He said, then winked at her.
“You’re gonna get diabetes from all that sugar you asked to have in your coffee.” A familiar voice said from next to Dean. Dean turned around slightly only to be met by the bluest of eyes. It was the man from on top of the building.
“Oh hey, you uh- you startled be there.” Dean said. His face started turning red as he thought back about the incident from earlier in the morning.
“My name is Castiel.” Castiel stuck his hand out for Dean to shake. Dean returned the gesture.
“I’m Dean.” Castiel shook Dean’s hand.
“I’m on break right now, do you mind if I join you after I order my coffee?” Castiel said.
“Sure. I’m just gonna go sit over here.” Dean grabbed his coffee from the counter and sat in a corner booth. Castiel later joined him.
“My personal favorite is the caramel latte with whipped cream!” Castiel beamed. Dean couldn’t help but smile when the blue-eyed man went in for a sip of his latte and got whipped cream on his nose.
“Uhm, you uh, got a little something-” Dean made a gesture to Castiel’s nose. ”I’ll get it.” He got a napkin from the end of the table and wiped the tip of Castiel’s nose to remove the whipped cream.
“Oh my! Thank you.” Castiel laughed.
The two proceeded to talk and laugh about different things. They conversed about their jobs and some of their favorite things. All the while Dean was becoming less shy and more open to the handsome man in front of him.
“It seems that my 30 minute break is up so I must be going, but I had a great time and I would love to do this again sometime, here’s my number! Give me a call when you’re free” Castiel smiled at Dean and handed him a napkin with his name and number on it.
“I enjoyed myself too” Dean smiled back at Castiel.
They both left the cafe’. Dean went back to his car and held the little napkin tight in his hand. He opened it and it read:
Who knew I would meet such an amazing guy today on my coffee break ;) Castiel; 417-555-2074
Dean smiled profusely and headed to the grocery store.
“Maybe that construction noise that woke me up this morning wasn’t such a bad thing after all.” He thought, and continued down the road with Castiel on his mind.
