After a busy weekend with a Wedding, a gig and then a family shoot I had much hoped for a relaxing day off, but that wasn't the case. I did manage to get a lie in before I had to get up and fully prepare for my band promotional shoot with a cover band '50 Shades of Craig' at 3:30 up at Staunton Country Park in Leigh Park, Havant. I made sure to begin with that I had the model release forms printed for my assistant Samara to get signed before the end of the shoot before we decided to head up to Staunton about an hour earlier just because the weather was pretty darn nice.
I chose to use my Nikon D90 for this shoot, because, like with the family shoot the day previous, it gives much stronger detailed and sharper photographs for this style of shooting. I set the camera 'Image Quality' to RAW + Fine JPEG, one for quicker and easier viewing of the images afterwards but also so that I could edit the photographs without destroying any of the overall quality.
We met up with the band at just after 3:30 at the gates of Staunton and briefly explained a rough plan of the shoot. Start off at the steps that used to lead up to the old Stately house which stood at Staunton over looking the lake, then move around following the pathway and see what happens for the rest of the shoot. The good thing about today was that there wasn't many people up Staunton that could disrupt the shoot (I have had this in the past with some young teenage boys trying to start on myself and another band because of how we were dressed - sad? Yes very!) and there weren't many people for us to get in the way of either. Not only this but the weather stayed on my side for the time period of the shoot which provided me with a strong and effective amount of natural lighting to, in the end, give me a small selection of strong photographs that the band can use in the near future for promotional purposes.
