discussion question for my anons
what is the difference between a “working” actor and an actor who is famously associated with one great/iconic role but never attained A-list levels of film/television fame and thus still needs to work/audition from time to time? (is there a difference?) how do things like age, money, genre of work, and other forms of celebrity privilege affect this issue? Discuss!
examples: is Adam Brody a “working” actor? is Anna Chlumsky? In contrast, an actor like Bryan Cranston probably never has to audition for anything ever again in his life and can negotiate a top-dollar salary for projects he wants to work on and/or develop. I would also put an actress like Elisabeth Moss or perhaps even Juliana Margulies in this category.
(For the purposes of this discussion, let’s consider television actors like the Friends cast, crossover stars like Julia Louis Dreyfus, and bonafide movie stars as A-list celebrities who have attained a level of fame that transcends this question.)
