NOMADIQUE ARTIST WORKSHOP DINNERS
Five months ago, we reached out to a few friends in our artist community for a dinner. In an effort to build community and support the works of art being produced within it, we asked that each person of the dinner bring a piece of art to share. With the 18 people that attended, the dinner lasted over four hours, but a spark was created that everyone in the room felt. There was something so natural, so necessary about providing a platform that artists could share what they are working on, simultaneously being accountable to showing work and receiving constructive feedback. In one sense, it was a structure that could fill the void that college left, but in another, it was a way to form friendships and collaborations with artists of various disciplines and ages. At our next workshop dinner, we scaled down to only workshopping 4 pieces of art instead of 18, and have since hosted one dinner per month for the last five months. In an effort to include a larger community we've decided to start blogging after each of the dinners to commemorate the works that have been shared and the artists that have been presented. Here's a summary from our last dinner, as well as a collection of photos from the first few installments of this gathering...
On a warm rainy evening, our June Artist Workshop dinner gathered over a big bowl Summer Squash Pasta Salad to discuss several new pieces of art works in progress from the Nomadique Community. This workshop featured new works from two musicians, a photographer and a filmmaker.
Sasha Arutyunova's photographs from her latest excursion through Russia explored her split perspective on the country she emigrated from when she was six.
Julia Easterlin's accompanied her song "Eliza Jane" with a harp which she trucked from Bushwick to Borough Park, Brooklyn. From the corner, of our dining room Julia sang sweet ballad about the birth of her younger sister.
Andrew Ellis screened a rough cut of his documentary "Eleanor Ambos Interiors" which profiles the life of a one of a kind Interior Designer / Real Estate Tycoon.
Jonathan Seale lead the group in two songs he had written in an effort to create music which can be sung as a group. It was a magical way to end the night.
Thank you to all who attended to make last week an incredible success: Stefan Weiner, Noah Wagner, Sasha Arutyunova, Katrina Sorrentino, Ben Stamper, Riley Hooper, Brittany Buongiorno, Michael Koehler, Julia Easterlin, Zubin Hensler, Margaret Glaspy, Matt Friedlander, Jacob Blumberg, Matt Porter
