Background:

Chip was originally a happy-go-lucky young pup and the pet of 11-year-old science prodigy, Enzo Tronzzone. But after a freak car accident, Chip was taken to the veterinary hospital. But instead, he accidentally fell into the hands of an eccentric robotics scientist, Dr. Beatrice Boltz, who then combined Chip’s body with a robotic armor, filled with all kinds of mechanic weapons and gadgets, like lasers, jet engines, X-ray vision, and magnet paws (and, somehow, the ability to speak), reviving him as a cybernetic super-dog!

Freaked out at first by his new powers and appearance, Chip went wild and accidentally destroyed the doctor’s lab, along with her blueprints and notes for Chip’s design. So now the doctor has no hope of re-creating him.

After reuniting with his owner Enzo, they both try to understand Chip’s new abilities, which Chip then decided to use to fight crime, as the new defender of Ratchet Lake City: Cyber-Dog!

 Personality:

Chip is an eager, headstrong, and adventurous young pup. However, he’s also rather cocky and flashy, as he loves the fame and attention with being a superhero. His cocky attitude causes him to not always think before he acts, which often makes him fearlessly puts himself in harm’s way. He also behaves more similar to a teenager, seeking only excitement and adventure. But despite his glory hound persona, he is ferociously protective of his friends (specifically Enzo) and his home of Ratchet Lake City, and will see to it that anyone who threatens either one of those two will pay the price! Similar to Spider-Man, Chip possesses a strong sense of humor, often throwing sarcastic comments in the face of danger and snarky remarks to his enemies. 

How he is like me:

We both are protective of those we care about and can be helpful. Also, we’re both “different” from others of our kind (he’s a talking cyborg dog and I have Autism). In addition, we both have a sense of humor.

Kelsey Notes:

Individuals with autism are diagnosed young, but carry that diagnosis throughout their life

Many can maintain a level of independence within their household

A person with autism is still able to be independent but requires a level of support throughout their life (this varies person by person)

Chip and Enzo trying to navigate his new abilities sounds similar to the support system navigating the progress that you make over time

Once progress is made, you support system helps you to acquire a skill

When you are working to learn a new skill your support system offers “buffers” along the way (like having guardrails while bowling)

This helps you acquire the skill independently while needing less help/prompts from your support system

Many individuals with autism have their own definition of what “being independent” looks like

We need support systems to help us navigate a level of independence by breaking small tasks down, and learning over time

While we are protective of the ones we love, we still strive to learn better emotional control to strengthen the relationships we have with family/friends

Helping out at home by completing required chores is a way to be helpful and is sometimes more important than being protective.
