World CML Day

It's World CML (Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia) day, so today I'm celebrating...me! 9/22 was chosen as the date specifically because CML is the translocation of chromosomes 9 and 22. The more you know...Side note, been waiting on my cancer results for 3 weeks and I am full of anxiety! It's a ride I take frequently (although it usually doesn't take THIS long for results. September 22nd is World CML Day. I was diagnosed with CML 22 years ago and I was fortunate to have had a bone marrow transplant that pretty much cured me. I have been CML free since 2000. I’ve met so many cancer patients and survivors over the years since my diagnosis and many have told me that I am an inspiration to them. I continue to try and help by telling my story and I give support and prayers to anyone who wants/needs it. I signed up to be a mentor to other patients about to get or going through a bone marrow transplant. Leukemia may affect red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Signs and symptoms of chronic myelogenous leukemia include weight loss and tiredness. Most people with CML have a gene mutation (change) called the Philadelphia chromosome. Tests that examine the blood and bone marrow are used to diagnose chronic myelogenous leukemia. Certain factors affect prognosis (chance of recovery) and treatment options.
