This is gonna be a bit long so read more if interested!
Step 1: Find good emotion you want to mimic.
Step 2: Make sure you have a size reference of just how big your lines should be so they look similar to any previous icon’s you have drawn. (Using previous icon’s you’ve made works well because it’s easier to draw big lines than smol one’s.)
Step 3: Trace over the bits within the frame. Basically draw the char to scale with the reference. (Idc if people say tracing bad, it’s easier and it’s helped me formulate how to draw my lil wormboi a lot easier when I draw him off model.)
Step 4: Once them lines are in, color an shade that sucker. I have a personal model sheet for my boi, makes things go a lot faster if you have the same.
Step 5: Realize the icon needs a background! Eh, I’m lazy, I’ll just use the one from the actual image reference. But wait–It’s got leftover bits that don’t fit in with it. (i.e pearls jacket and a little bit of steven’s doctor cosplay.)
Step 6: Just uh, edit that out. Yeah, perfect. Oh and uh, don’t forget to crop it too.
Step 7: Time to resize! Because this dude is obviously too chonky to be used at the decent size he is, otherwise he’d take up a whole page. Which we don’t want. So make sure you have a personal size of how smol you want those icons to come out as.
