"Anna and the French Kiss" by Stephanie Perkins
One more for the day:)
So I read this book a little while ago, but I figured I had to write a post about it since its definitely up high on the favorites list.
This book was really the first YA contemporary I ever read, and I have to say, I definitely found out some things about myself: a) I'm apparently a hopeless romantic, and b) My heart melts into a pool of lovey-dovey-ness very quickly to the point where it's kind of concerning...
Anyways, this book follows a girl named Anna (in case you didn't figure that one out yet), who goes to a boarding school in Paris. Here, she meets the super nice and very good looking Etienne- who Anna soon finds out is not up for grabs (boo).
Out of every book I've ever read, I find this series to be the most relatable. It follows a teenage girl through high school and the rollercoaster of balancing academics on top of relationships. I've definitely learned some of the do's and don'ts of seeking out guys, as well as the consequences for breaking the unspoken 'girl code'.
This is a fairly quick read (I finished it in less than 24 hours); it takes you on a whirlwind of emotions; from crying tears of both happiness and sadness, to laughing at jokes and silly mistakes , to face-palming at stupid mistakes because hey, high school.
Do I recommend this book? Absolutely. Although, if you aren't into the whole "cutesy love story, two teens finding true love" thing, you might want to sit this one out.
Why should you read this book? It's quick, it's a great story, and it's about two teenagers falling in love in the city of love. What's not to like? On top of that, the characters are relatable and don't seem 'fake'. I felt as if I could really connect to them, which made the story that much more real.
My Rating: 4.5/5
