Admittedly I am fully at the point where I don't think Nia will be the great amazing character she could be and should be in the longterm unless the narrative lets her admit that the way she treated and still treats Jay is fucked up. None of this "im a victim too!" nonsense: while its absolutely true that she is a victim of waller, she's not JAY's victim, but jay is 100% HER victim. and she needs to be unquestionably sorry with no need to plead for his compassion if DC wants her to be like. Likeable in the long-term, but also, able to stand on her own as a protagonist.
Ultimately the worst thing Nia ever did to Jay wasn't any of the physical "your mom got murdered because i failed and also i put you in jail again" stuff (though. bad!). Its that when Jay was hurting, she didn't outwardly care about anything except keeping the gun out of her own face. She didn't want to apologize: she wanted to be redeemed. She was a bad friend on top of being an accomplice. And this isn't like, bad writing, its very awesome we're letting a tgirl be anything except a perfect paragon of niceness, but I need her to admit that without it being her trying to self-pity her way out of an uncomfortable situation. Because at some point, I begin to wonder if DC is thinking about the trans POC in the audience who probably have more in common with Jay than they do with Nia.
