sam couldn't pet (m)any of the cats so i drew him surrounded by them

#started this many many months ago and only just now finished #at 4am...#whoops!#i'm throwing this in the queue and going the fuck to sleep #but i am pretty happy with this!#i was like 90% done with it for months. all i did was add in the shading and texturing and color the outlines #probably only 2-2.5 hours of work #it was a struggle with the rendering. unfortunately i lean heavily towards realism so that means when i try to do cartoon it looks freaky #so originally this was weird as hell but i fixed it and am now very happy with it!!#also the cat on the right is based off of my cat who passed last year :3 his name was finny! say hi!#fulfilling my fantasies of covering sam in cats one drawing at a time #(i have like 20 more sketches of sam in various states of cat-coverment)#also wow so much art from me recently y'all are getting fed this summer!#i updated my gpu driver for this art btw #it was out of date by 2 years and photoshop finally had enough of it and quit showing me stuff #thank god i am so knowledgeable on tech stuff cause there's absolutely no way i would've fixed the problem if i didn't know what i do #i feel so cool when i know all the tech stuff but then so silly when all of it is towards gamers and streamers #and im just drawing silly pictures of grown men covered in cats #an important part of the ecosystem but nonetheless #sam denby #jet lag the game #jltg #zeph's art

Always so crazy to me when people who don't draw, let alone animate, say stuff about animation like "oh it's not that hard" or "it wouldn't be too hard with enough practice"

I know you might not be able to draw from personal experience to imagine what it would be like, but as an active consumer of art products I would expect you to at least understand the medium a LITTLE.

#azuritalks #I don't normally do rant posts like this but I'm really fckin tired and seeing a comment like that just tilted me #this isn't about anything in particular this is just kinda in general #the jump from regular artwork to animation is fucking astronomical and there's no way we're thinking it's NOT right #like wow I just spent 8 hours working on this fully fleshed out rendered piece #cool now imagine doing that 72 more times #that's assuming you're animating on 1's at 24 fps #to get a result of THREE SECONDS OF ANIMATED ART #and yeah I know not all the time you spend on the original piece gets translated in a 1-1 into an animation #like you're gonna probably keep backgrounds relatively stable #but the point is that the amount of time and effort that goes into animation explodes EXPONENTIALLY #and this isn't to say you can't critique bad animation #animation can be bad and it's fine to judge it on based on its contents and what its for #but also can we please understand that this medium is so fucking difficult and 'enough practice' doesn't lessen that difficulty easily?#bitch anything gets easier with practice #just because it gets easier doesn't mean the work still isn't there #maybe this is cope idk #i'm tired #and I stg if anyone even brings up AI I will actually disintegrate you
