I first saw @tdwpband when I was 16 years old on their tour with @killswitchengage back in 2009. Since then I haven’t missed a show from them whenever they pass through Phoenix. I’m about to be 26. That’s about 10 years of Prada and here’s to 10 more years. Show Review: With Roots Above And Branches Below 10 Year Anniversary Tour

Ten years ago, The Devil Wears Prada released an album called With Roots Above And Branches Below. Some may say it’s not, but it’s definitely one of their best and most influential albums they’ve released. This year, they decided to do a tour in support of the anniversary of that album. Fit For A King and ‘68 are supporting them on this run. We had the chance to check out the show here in Detroit, MI and it was insane. Check out more below.

Opening the night was Atlanta, GA based duo ’68. From the moment drummer Michael McClellan walked out on stage and began with an ever so infectious beat, to the last strum of Josh Scogin’s guitar, they brought one hell of a party. Every single song they played flowed so well straight into the next one. The energy that vocalist Scogin and McClellan share on stage is wild. ’68 is by far one of the most well put together duo’s to ever exist.

Fit For A King took the stage shortly after and blew everyone in the audience away. They opened their set with “The Price Of Agony” off of their most recent release, Dark Skies. They were band two of three for the night, and the crowd went hard. They matched the crowds' energy and went just as hard the entire duration of their set. Ending their set with “Tower of Pain,” another new song of Dark Skies, made the crowd go wild. That song is by far one of the heaviest off of the album and it was a perfect way to go to out.

Moments before the lights went out and The Devil Wears Prada took the stage it got very quiet. It was almost as if everyone just wanted a moment of silence, and then all at once, everyone broke out into chanting “Prada! Prada! Prada! Prada!” Opening the set with their Julien Baker cover, “Sour Breath” couldn’t have been a better choice. Before they got into why everyone was really there, they played a few other songs like “Born to Lose” and “Worldwide.” When the band went into “Sassafras,” the first track off of With Roots Above And Branches Below,  the entire venue was off their feet, throwing each other across the pit, launching people over the barricade left and right. (Special shoutout to St. Andrews security for being absolutely incredible all the time). With it being the 10-year anniversary tour, everyone knew what they were in for. Knowing that they hadn’t really ever fully played “Lord Xenu” live before, that was the most exciting part of the night. At one point during the night, vocalist Mike Hranica gave praise to the fans in Michigan for always being so supportive and sticking around and being all around great people. It was just an awesome night to be a fan of this band.
