Wrapped Coast, One Millian Square Feet, 1968-69, Christo and Jeanne-Claude

“For a period of ten weeks, a swathe of Australian coastline stretching more than 2 kilometres was transformed into a monumental sculpture by husband a wife artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude. Aided by a team of mountain climbers, labourers and art and architecture students, the environmental artists draped some 93,000 square metres of fabric across the rugged cliffs, tacking it down with studs and some 56 kilometres of rope. A temporary intervention in the landscape, the work was eventually dismantled, the materials recycled, and the site returned to its original condition.” - The Art Museum, Phaidon
