Today starts with the Rally of Finland in the 2023 WRC season, the land of not only rallying, but also the land of Moomins.

I've finished working on a drawing featuring the Peugeot 206 WRC driven by Marcus Grönholm, with Moomintroll and Moominpappa spectating at the rally.

Really thought it was a sick joke… I’m so sorry for Craig’s family & friends. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy & was such a joy to watch drive.

Motorsports has come on leaps & bounds in the past few decades in regards to health & safety. But this is just a startling reminder like anything in life there will never be zero risk. My heart goes out to Craig’s family & friends. I’ve only had the pleasure of watching his skills on screen this year but he will be missed. Still hadn’t really hit that he won’t be in Croatia. That he won't be racing again or laughing with his family & friends again. Life really can be taken in a matter of minutes.

Rest in peace Craig Breen ❤️

A short guide to WRC

This is very simplified and short (hopefully easily understandable) explanation

Manufacturers are Hyundai, Toyota and M-Sport

Two support series WRC2 and WRC3 (+ junior WRC)

Driven on surfaces from gravel/tarmac to snow/ice

15-25 stages in one event

Stages are driven on closed roads, linked to each other by regular ones, where traffic laws apply

Time limit to arrive to the next stage

Event begins on Tuesday/Wednesday, crews drive through the stages and make/update pace notes

On Thursday they drive through the shakedown stage for practice/ testing the car

Competition begins usually Thursday night with a short fan favorite stage or by driving through the streets of the host town

Ends on Sunday with Power Stage, where the 5 fastest drivers get bonus points

Cars leave one at a time, co-driver reads pace notes, which tell the driver what is coming next in the road

Crew which completes all stages in the shortest time is the winner

The winners get 25 points, second 18, third 15 and so on

There is usually 3 service park sessions in a day, to fix the car. One 15 minute session before the opening stage, 40 minute one in the midway and one in the end of the day

If drivers have to retire, they get one 10 minute penalty for each missed stage

WRC and rally are one of my favorite things in the world and I really think every F1 fan (and everyone else!) should give it a chance. I'll link few helpful pages here & if you have any questions please feel free to ask me!
