A few weeks ago I was at a board game night with some of my old classmates from various mainland European countries. They started talking about how horrible Trump's treatment of immigrants is and how they're so glad to be in Europe where nothing like that is happening right now. I asked them what they thought about the fact that their own governments were complicit in turning the Mediterranean into a mass grave of asylum seekers, and some of them legitimately didn't even know and were surprised to hear that their own governments had enacted policies that caused the deaths of thousands of asylum seekers.

Even here in Iceland, almost nobody has been talking about the fact that some of the far right populist parties have legitimately been talking about wanting to establish detainment camps to keep asylum seekers in.

This post is a few months old now, and the bit about Iceland is now outdated, because Alþingi (the Icelandic parliament) passed the bill approving the detention center for asylum seekers. It will be legal to handcuff and detain children there.

the only thing i’ll say on this current discourse is that the rot of eurocentric femininity extends beyond drivers and that actually a wag will always be preferable to a female driver to brands and media. a weathly conventionally attractive quiet woman who doesn’t visibly do anything and refuses to be vocal about women’s issues will always be preferred to a woman who has to work hard and fight tooth and nail to get a fraction of the praise and money that wags and male drivers get. to praise an actual woman in motorsport who are actively changing norms and breaking barriers goes against everything these people believe and profit off of

I think Sophie Cunningham’s use of “young girls vs biological men” is very telling. She’s either purposefully infantilizing women in sports or purposefully adultifying trans kids. She even posted what was supposed to be a “welcoming” tweet where she said “biological girls, biological boys, trans women and trans men.” Her consistency in this is obviously trying to portray trans people as a big, bad boogeyman opposed to the smol innocent cis people. It’s not slick. We all see what she’s doing here. Trans athletes make up .002% of all NCAA athletes. Picking on roughly 10 people is lame.

Also very wild for the Storm to ban their minority owner for calling those paid protestors effing insane. It is effing insane to go to a game where you probably can’t even name 5 players just to push your anti trans agenda. Can’t believe the Storm recently invited trans icon Sasha Colby to a game and then have the nerve to say, “everyone deserves to feel welcome and we’re committed to creating an inclusive environment.”

This is all I’m gonna say on the subject. Don’t message me any BS about it. I believe trans people deal with enough crap as is. They don’t need to be vilified by a bench player looking to make more money grifting.
