Because I'm a bit of a scavenger
I worked at a candy store that was intended to be a pop-up and wound up doing so well that it stuck around for a solid 3 years. It was in a two-story building with only the lower floor accessible to customers. Both floors, easily, had a 15 foot ceiling.
I wasn't there when the store opened. The designers that were put these massive foam candy props in every window, and upstairs, they made backdrops out of suspended wooden poles and probably ten-foot lengths of ribbon. The effect was pretty, but you could only really see it from across the street.
The store wound up very slowly closing while I was there. At one point the DM said "If the upstairs display 'fell down', I wouldn't be upset at all". I heard my marching orders, took it apart... and wound up with two industrial trash bins full of ribbons and only ribbons. And I just couldn't let them go.
Turns out none of them were wired and they frayed like anything. I was planning to have the most ribbony holiday season of all time (I'm not great at wrapping presents and thought I could up my game) but that concept fell apart pretty quickly. I've been overthinking this forever and finally hit on it:
I am proud to say that my pretty little friend is at least 1/3rd post-consumer waste.
As you can see, I'm still noodling with the idea - I would have blended the colors if I had a better idea of their lengths - but I think this is the winningest one.
This is
several lengths of green ribbon of various widths
a foam wreath mold
a holiday bow with wire attached to the back
hot glue (tacky would probably be fine; it was a lot of plugging and unplugging)
and the secret sauce is that it's braided.
Glue three lengths of ribbon directly on top of each other onto the wreath. Braid them together until you run out of material.
Wrap the braid around the wreath until you reach its end. Glue the short end down and glue another ribbon directly on top of it.
Repeat until you find the beginning of your braid. Glue all three ends to the wreath form.
Attach the prepared bow directly over the seam you just made.
Fluff your wreath. Make sure the wreath form is not showing underneath. Glue down anything that's visibly fraying or poking out.
Simple as. Probably sending mine to my brother and SIL because they own their house and every house needs one.... and I've got plenty more for myself.
