The food here was not much to sneeze at, but it would do Jack good regardless. He needed his strength, and she needed it too. This was the only shot that any of them had at being free of Rapture. The Little Sisters deserved a chance at a normal life after all of their hardships, yes -- and Jack deserved that and far more.
How unfortunate that so much was on his shoulders for it. The scientist was determined to do everything she could within her power to see to it he could. What was in her power now was to make sure he was well fed. Brigid Tenenbaum knocked on his door with a rolling cart that carried far much more than a tray of food. Little Sisters ran in and out, beckoning goodbye to their rescuer and hello to their Mama Tenenbaum.
Another salve for the heart. They loved him this Brigid could tell. A good thing. Proof of the right thing. Still, she shooed them out gently to give Jack and her privacy.
“A few things,” still direct, but softer than she’d been in his childhood. Whether by practice or instinct or guilt it was hard to say, “Dinner for you. Then I will be checking on the work I have done in your mind so far. But there is more work to be done.”
Tenenbaum rolled the cart in further to rest alongside the bed, “I shall tell you where you might find some of Suchong’s secrets. Leave when you wish, but...” it seemed like for all her softness she still struggled with connection. Brigid busied herself with grabbing a stethoscope to rest around her neck and an ophthalmoscope to begin the check up. Like old times. Terrible, terrible old times.
“No doubt you have questions, many questions. I answer what I can for you now. No more secrets from you.”
