get ready for the most cringe worthy tooth rotting fluff you’ve ever seen, because I finally let one of my fave characters be happy. (They are usually ether dead or in extreme pain 🤣)

Washington sat on the roof, his legs dangling over the side.

The setting sun painted the sky with vibrant shades of orange, casting a warm glow over the gulch.

He sighed.

Recently that color had started to mean more to him than he was willing to admit.

He was a freelancer, a fighter and a damned good soldier, yet he could barely get the strength to talk to the guy.

“Damned Grif” he thought, his mind involuntarily drifting to the man with that infuriatingly charming, chubby face, flawless hair, and those stupid, deep dark chocolate eyes that seemed to peer right through his façade.

Washington was snapped out of his thoughts by the sound of footsteps approaching on the roof. He turned to see Grif walking over holding two cans of beer.

“Hey Wash, thought I'd find you here, mind if I sit?”

Washington nodded a little too quickly “y-yea sure” he said his voice flat.

Grif huffed as he sat down next to Wash, their legs almost touching as Grif offered him a beer.

Wash accepted it trying to ignore the way his stomach did a flip when their hands touched.

“So…..” Grif starts scratching the back of his neck “you got any plans- you know for when this is all over?”

Washington sighed again trying to compose himself as he looked out at the horizon.

“You know, before I met you guys…I never really planned for a life outside the military.”

Grif chuckled lightly looking down at the beer can in his hands. “Don't worry, with your looks, you could easily find some chick to settle down with.”

“I don't want some chick,” Washington thought to himself “I just want you.”

“Wut-” Grif stuttered, his eyes widened in surprise, a flush creeping up his cheeks.

Shit he had said that out loud hadn't he.

The realization of what he had just confessed hit him like a ton of bricks.

Washington's face flushed a deep crimson, and he quickly looked away.

He opened his mouth to say something, but no sound came out.

They both sat there, the two men flustered and awkward like school boys.

“Wash-”

"Sorry Grif, I- just-"

He stood up abruptly, turning to leave, but Grif was faster.

The man reached out and grabbed Washington's hand, stopping him in his tracks. Their fingers intertwined instinctively, and Washington felt a jolt of electricity course through him. "Don't go," Grif said softly, his grip firm but gentle. Washington looked back, his heart pounding in his chest.

Washington swallowed hard, his throat dry. "I just… I didn't want to make things weird between us and-“

Grif chuckled, a warm sound that eased some of Washington's tension.

"Weird? Wash, life's been nothing but weird. This," he lifted their joined hands slightly, "this is probably the most normal thing in this entire gulch."

Washington took a shaky breath, his mind racing.

Grif- Grif liked him back?

Gathering his courage, he stepped closer, his free hand gently cupping Grif's cheek, and before he could second-guess himself, he leaned in, pressing his lips against Grif's. Grif responded immediately, his free hand coming up to tangle in Washington's hair, pulling him closer. When they finally pulled apart, both men were breathless, their foreheads resting against each other.

"I…" Washington began, his voice trembling. "I can't believe I just did that."

Grif grinned, his eyes looked beautiful in the orange of the sky. "Well, I'm glad you did."

Washington's face was still flushed,as he looked at Grifs blushing cheeks, he leaned back in.

Has a bit of Grifington if you squint. mostly Grimmons being domestic and basically already married with a side dish of Bitthews. ( also i might spell Matthews's name wrong by accident.)

Washington whistled when he saw Grif’s orange armored figure walking into the Training camp area. “Well, well. Look who’s decided to grace us with his presence,” he said.

“Why are we even here? We’re captains...” Simmons wondered and he walked up to Washington. Washington made a face at him.

“Why are you-” he looked at Grif. “What? Why would I be the only Captain who’s being yelled at for not coming? Simmons never had to come...” he paused, looking at Simmons. “ Right? “

“ ...Right. That seems unfair, Washington.”

“ ... You have a point,” Washington said as he rolled his shoulders. “ Okay, Take it off. “

“ Ex-Excuse?” Simmons was obviously bright red under his helmet.

“ We aren’t wearing Armor today.”

“ Oh!” Simmons sputtered. Washington raised an eyebrow at him and laughed.

“ Grif, Can-” Washington stopped for a moment.

Grif had already taken off all of his armor and placed it in one of the empty lockers. His arms were a bit wide but they were riddled with somewhat defined muscles. Washington had not been expecting that.

Simmons looked at Washington and scoffed. “ Wait til you see his face,” he mumbled nonchalantly. Sure enough, The helmet came off and hair unraveled around his face. Washington, who had just recovered from the fact that Lazy Orange guy Grif was ripped, froze yet again. Grif’s hair flopped down, the short, springy curls framed his face.

Most assumed that Grif would be ugly or unkempt but none of them were expecting Grif to look...

“ He’s handsome?” Bitters squeaked out. Matthews smirked at him. “ I told you. Why are you surprised?” he wondered, nudging his best friend’s shoulder with his elbow.

Simmons did his best to seem unbothered by the appearance of Grif’s handsome face and strong chin. But internally, he was just as freaked out as the rest of them.

“ Grif...” he hissed. Grif lifted his chin up and looked at him. “ WHAT THE FUCK?” Simmons hissed.

Grif tilted his head and pursed his lip.

Simmons thought ‘Oh, I hate him’ and groaned in exasperation. “ YOU CUT YOUR HAIR!” Simmons shouted.

Everyone suddenly stared at Simmons.

“Wait, So Captain Grif could have looked hotter?” Volleyball Hottie asked, scrunching up her beautiful face.

“ Oh... uh. Yeah? It was too hot for me to keep it long and we didn’t have indoor plumbing on the crash site so... It got really tangled.” Grif was rambling. That was a bad sign.

“ ... We need to talk later,” Simmons muttered. Grif raised an eyebrow.

“ Really? Are you that mad about my hair? Should I have tied it in a bow and gifted it to you, Weirdo?”

“ Ugh. It’s not about the HAIR, Grif! “

Washington’s expression clearly showed that he had grown accustomed to Grif and Simmons’s ‘ playful banter’ to the point where he phased it out. Grif huffed as he was called on immediately after Washington explained the basic schedule today.

“ Of course, it’s me,” he grumbled. Matthews stepped over to him. “Sir, Will you be alright? I would be happy to take your spot for you,” he said in an overly eager tone. Simmons’s face scrunched up and Matthews glanced over at him with a wounded look. Simmons blinked as he (apparently )forgot that his face was not cloaked under a helmet, “Uhn...”

“ Wow, Matthews. I thought you had more faith in me than that.” Grif chided him. Matthews flushed and looked down.

“Sorry, Sir. Of course, I have the most faith in you.” he was staring at Grif’s exposed arms now. Simmons scowled at this. Bitters who was behind Matthews shot the Captain a questioning look. Simmons looked like he had been caught committing some crime and stepped away from Grif. Grif did not know this was happening. He strolled up to Washington and huffed.

“ Okay, Captain Grif. I figured that since you’re the Captain then I should put it on the advanced level. “ Washington had a smirk on his face. Grif rolled his eyes. “ Not high enough, David,” he said. David aka Washington shot him a look and he laughed. Grif shrugged, “ Fine. Learn the hard way...” he grumbled.

About thirty minutes later, Grif strolled out of the other side. “ See, Easy,” he said. Everyone collectively closed their mouths and mumbled to each other.

” Huh? I guess I need to make it harder.” Washington muttered. “... How...did you get the idea to scale the wall to avoid the guns?”

” Eh? What has no one else tried that? “ Grif raised his eyebrow and looked over at Washington.

” He grew up in the Circus... OF course, climbing was his first thought.” Simmons grumbled. Washington’s eyes widened. He looked over at Simmons. Grif squinted at Simmons and mouthed something that made Simmons shrink back.

” You knew...and you didn’t think to tell me? “ Washington asked. ”... I was sworn to Silence, Sir.” Washington closed his eyes and sighed in annoyance.

” Oh...I get the feeling we’ve made a huge mistake.” Bitters mumbled.

” Wasn’t Captain Grif supposed to be lazy?” Andersmith said, everyone looked at Matthews. ” Well, maybe but he’s been secretly training for weeks,” Mathews said. He suddenly let out a sharp gasp. “ I wasn’t supposed to say that. Oh nooo,” he looked at Bitters with a concerned look.

” Do you mean the time he got you to deliver food to his room?” Bitters asked. Matthews pouted at him and Bitters huffed.

“I can’t believe you guys thought jumping him was going to end well for you,” Simmons grumbled as he walked up to them. “ He’s going to make it our problem now that he’s being forced to show off what he’s actually capable of. “

“Do you think he would stop coming if we bribed him?” Bitters asked. Simmons paused to consider it and shrugged his shoulders.

“Okay, Bitters. Matthews. You’re up next. Let’s see if you can beat your Captain’s time.

It looked like they were in for a rough day.

wrif started out as a joke bc wash and grif were the only ones i could draw at first and jschlatt wanted me to draw grimmons all the time.

but then , the worms hit,

and its still lowk a joke ship bc its just one of those "im gonna make my two favourite characters kiss despite the lack of a dynamic" but LISTEN TO MEEEE mf that needs to sleep x king of naps, (hc) mf that cooks x mf that eats everything

also i think its kinda funny that grif is just the most sensible one to the blue leaders, like simmons is right there and grif still comes out as the most normal guy on red team.

im assuming the context of the second is that tucker’s asking grif because he’s no action no siree gonna stay on Iris.

…does that make this moment his turning point where he starts being on the same page as everyone else.

wrif delusionalist: when carolina says "david is hurt" (in reference to their decision to go back and save him from being shot)(also her calling him david in this scene makes me vomit/pos) , grif is quiet and when questioned says very softly that wash would do the same for them in a heartbeat and they should do the same for him. later on when wash tells them they have to go save carolina he is very much adverse to doing so and would rather not. now if wrif wasnt real would - *gunshot*

now i haven’t watched s16 in a hot minute so im not sure when you’re referring to “he” not wanting to save carolina you’re referring to grif or to wash but like both ways it hurts me (I think you mean grif?) either wash doesn’t want to save carolina and grif’s idea in his mind that wash would try to save them back is false (which, mind you, definitely isn’t…christ 17.) or grif doesn’t want to save carolina. n like I like how that portrays more trust towards wash…but it also implies less trust towards Carolina. and there’s an implication there that she wouldn’t try to save them.
