Our skin has 2 layers: epidermis (outer layer) and the dermis (under the epidermis). When we develop wrinkles they occur in the dermis layer of our skin. The dermis is made up of proteins and collagen. As you age, the cells replicate less effectively and produce less collagen. Collagen is responsible for making our skin elastic and smooth. Some contributing factors to premature aging and wrinkles include:
· Sleeping on your side (sleeping on your back is the best position to sleep in)
· Facial expressions (laughing, frowning, squinting etc.)
Aging is a natural part of our lifecycle and it is normal for individuals to develop wrinkles and saggy skin as they get older. However; there are some ways you can prevent and repair some damage which was prematurely caused. Here is what you can try to look your best at any age!
Don’t Smoke or Quit Smoking
There is nothing positive about smoking. At all. It does nothing good for your health and causes havoc on every part of your body. I have smoked for over 10 years and know how difficult it is to quit – trust me! I’ve made plans to kick the habit and will stick to my plans. You should too, I know you can do it!
Eat Lots of Saturated Fats – Healthy ones!
Good saturated fats are an essential part of having great skin and a healthy diet. Saturated fats are important for normal cellular function and if incorporated properly will have positive effects on your health. Eating these healthy fats do not make you gain weight if that’s what you’re worried about. As long as you pair this will moderation and exercise – otherwise a balanced lifestyle. Get healthy saturated fats from avocados, cashews and coconut oil.
Water, water, water, water….water! You can also have coconut water or green tea (contains antioxidants). Staying hydrated enables your body to function normally and effectively rid toxins and unnecessary components from your body. Healthy skin starts from within. Don’t ever rob yourself of the good that can come from maintain your body’s hydration. The benefits from this are endless.
Taking care of your skin is an important factor in minimizing the effects of aging and unnecessary damage caused by our environment. Make sure you have something to hydrate your body as well, such as CVS Stress Relief Moisturizing Lotion for $10.49 on CVS.com.
Sleeping allows your body to rest and regenerate. When we sleep our bodies produce HGH (human growth hormone) which promotes growth and cell production. If you are lacking on your zzzz’s then your body cannot produce enough HGH and your cellular functions are not at an optimal level. Give your body the tools it needs to operate at its best by sleeping at least 8 hours per day. Sleeping also lowers cortisol levels (stress hormones) which is a contributor to premature aging.
Taking a gelatin supplement can actually fill in wrinkles and fine lines as it is made up of cooked collagen (from pigs and cows). It is a wonderful anti-wrinkle fighting machine and can be purchased from most health food stores. You want to make sure it is of good quality so do your homework first. You can also make your own gelatin at home with a bone broth – how cool!
Using a Good Anti-Wrinkle Serum
You want to make sure you are hydrating your body from the inside out, but don’t forget that your epidermis can also benefit from some extra protection as well. I really like Equate Beauty Precision Focus Wrinkle Serum because it is designed to help minimize the appearance of fine lines and UV damage. It is also formulated for all skin types. Pair this with a SPF moisturizer and you’ll be off to the races. The wrinkle serum is $14.88 on Walmart.com which is a great price if you ask me.
So there you have it! A few ways you can manage and prevent wrinkles developing on your precious skin. Remember, everyone ages – it’s a part of life. Do you best to do so elegantly and gracefully. You are not the first person to have grey hair, wrinkles, saggy skin or other age related developments. Embrace yourself and believe that you are beautiful, because you are! By making some changes to your lifestyle you can greatly reduce effects of the inevitable, and it is nothing to fear. I promise! Stay beautiful.
