And since I just went off on a rant about how people who cheat at writing are fucking things up for the rest of us, I would like to follow that up with some great advice that I too have heard (not in quite this way but it's honestly a great way to think about it!) about the writing process.
Because here's the thing — writing IS hard. It's fucking brutal! You'll sit there and type out the same sentence like five different ways and they all suck! It's demoralizing! But this idea has helped with so SO many roadblocks in my writing over the years. Call it "elfing," call it "the underemployed ghost writer" call it "the pretend your drunk method," whatever helps. But listen to this bit of advice (I've started the video at the relevant spot but the whole thing's actually pretty cool; Cregger is not my kind of writer because I'm a wimp who hates horror BUT he's got some good ideas and when they're not HIS ideas, he does at least admit that. Which seems to put him ahead of the game, doesn't it?)
