That #WriteInBernie Hashtag
So I’m just sitting around on my desktop, just waiting in the Starcraft II menus, waiting for an interesting arcade game for me to join. I can’t wait more than two minutes, so in the meantime I decide to hop on twitter to see what’s new with politics. I go down my feed for a while. Clinton blaming Bernie for the recent black shootings... like wtf how does that add up... but then I also see something else - a nice little hashtag that defines my plans in the fall.
Everyone should be able to vote for who they want as president, which is why I want the people who want Bernie as president to #WriteInBernie ...... Like it makes so much sense. Same deal as writing in Trump or Clinton or the Green Party person Dr Jill Stein... or whomever. Vote for the person who you WANT as president.
Of course, plenty of people had their own opinions about the hashtag, which is why I want to talk about people worried about a split party. There are people seriously worried that people who write in Bernie will split the Democratic party, and it will lead to a Trump presidency. Of course, this is a literal assumption that only Republicans and Democrats are voting in the fall. It isn’t. There are far too many independents in the country. As a matter of fact, a SHIT TON of people entered the Democratic party this past year just because they wanted to vote for Bernie Sanders (including myself). They aren’t about to vote for Hillary, and neither am I.
Now the whole point about fearing a Trump presidency... look, I get it. There’s a shit ton of us that don’t want Trump as president. And that includes myself. He allows too much misogyny to be a leader of the country. Heck, he shares some of his views of his father. There’s supposedly evidence that his father was a member of the KKK... but give him the benefit of the doubt - Trump didn’t become a member of that clan, so I’m thinking there’s some sort of humanity stuck inside the dark corner of his mind...
Ah, but right! If he becomes president, then racism will become even worse. We can’t allow him to become president, so we need to team up under one banner. The Clinton banner. Such a great idea. Except there’s a huge problem
Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are just too different, and NO we aren’t talking about their fucking identity (I don’t give a damn about their age or gender or any of that shit). No, they’re different because their ideals are different. Their morals are different. What they view as right and wrong is different. For Bernie, you know what he’s thinking because he’s an honest politician. You know what he’s thinking. And if you can’t understand why he hasn’t endorsed Hillary yet, it’s real simple. He’s using whatever power he can wield right now to fight for his own beliefs. Hillary wants to keep fracking, Bernie wants to ban fracking. Hillary wants just a $12/hour wage, but Bernie wants a $15/hour wage. Hillary wants to keep money in politics, but Bernie wants to end the huge money in politics. And that’s only the beginning of their differences.
So when you want people to unite under one banner, you’re asking these people to give up on voting for someone that represents what THEY want. If they originally chose Bernie over Hillary, it’s gotta be because Bernie is fighting for ideals and values that they want in their lives. Stop telling people to unite against their will. It’s only going to make things worse, and it will also create bigger conflicts between Clinton and Sanders.... but if that’s what you were planning then go ahead and continue.
But some of these people who are writing in Bernie, like myself, aren’t just writing him in because of just these ideals. Yes, we love his ideals and that’s why we want to vote for him. But the way that the media, the establishment government, and the DNC have been labeling Sanders throughout the past several months... maybe even since he started... as a socialist, as a radical, and other stuff... That’s practically as bad as calling someone a racist name. Like wtf don’t do that. Why the hell are you picking on someone (and DISMISSING someone) who actually cares about the lives of people; who wants to march alongside people for fairness and equality; who constantly votes against going to war because he’s concerned about the consequences of war... To us, he’s actually a human, just like us.
Oh yeah, and also there’s the factor that the DNC is trying to dismiss and ignore all of the election problems that happened throughout the ENTIRE primary election season. If you didn’t hear about stuff that happened in Arizona, New York State, California, Puerto Rico... holy shit what the hell are you doing with your life... There were literally lines that went on for hours... just to get into a SINGLE voting poll location... There were problems with the counting of votes too. In Brooklyn, NYC, there were over 120,000 Democrats who were suddenly purged from the voting record, and were ineligible to vote. Yea, that was just in Brooklyn alone. In California, Hillary won the initial count, but that was only because they dismissed most of the votes. Voters who were independent were given an option to get two types of voting ballots. One was a ballot that most people were given (and which didn’t get counted into the final vote), and the other was a SECRET ballot, which was only given after you spoke a secret phrase (literally a password), which allowed you to get a mail-in ballot, that would actually be counted as part of the vote. So yeah, most people didn’t even get their votes counted because they didn’t even know of the secret ballot. Oh, and top of all of that, the night before the California primary, AP announced that Hillary was going to win California, BEFORE the voting even began, which literally discouraged voters from going to their polling locations to vote. Yeah good job AP. We know which side you’re on.
Now, I wanted to give Hillary the benefit of the doubt, because maybe she wasn’t involved with all of these terrible election incidents, that left so many people feeling disenfranchised. So I was waiting for her to speak about voting incident after voting incident after voting incident... Eventually I gave up on waiting. She never actually spoke about how wrong it was that people had to literally wait hours in line at a SINGLE voting location. She didn’t say how wrong it was that so many people had been purged from the Democratic voting list. She didn’t say how unfair it is that you need to speak specific words at a voting location to get the correct mail-in ballot to have your vote counted. Even if she didn’t think that there was ANY evidence of it (which there obviously was a SHIT-TON of evidence), she could’ve, at the very least, said if any of these things happened, especially at a large scale, that these are wrong, and if there’s proof of it, then something needs to get done so that the votes of all of these people get counted. But no, she didn’t say anything. No, she doesn’t care enough about the people to let them know that she wants to help them. I would even go as far as saying that she only cares about what she wants, and right now she wants to become the next president..... and of course if all these votes ended up counting and gave more votes to Bernie, that might prevent her from getting what she wants.... yeah I don’t think she wants that to happen.
Normally I’d just end up saying “I’m done” or something like that, but I’ll definitely be thinking about this for a LONG time. And yeah, I’m still going to be voting in for Bernie. I know I’m going to feel bitter about this for a long time. I know that the DNC doesn’t care about people’s votes now. And by the way, one of the goals/objectives of the DNC is to protect the existence of money in politics, so if you joined the Democratic party in hopes to remove money in politics... well it kinda sucks, but the party has been corrupted for quite some time. They care about money more than the votes of the people.
Well, I’m going to do something else for now. maybe look at the SC2 arcade games for something different.... or maybe the Pokemon Go servers are finally back up again... (seriously though, it’s been TERRIBLE - the servers are constantly up and down).
But until next blog... Bye!
