This or That - Writer's Edition
Thank you @pens-swords-stuff & @axl-ul for the tags!
No pressure tagging: @mirrorball-writes @doublegoblin @briannaswords & my open tag!
Historical or futuristic
I must say that I love both of these. Kind of a cop out, but I really love futuristic settings that bring back historical elements. The merging of futuristic technology with historic culture and clothing is super fun.
Opening or closing chapter
Closing. There's something absolutely ethereal about picking the final words of your story.
Light+fluffy or dark+gritty
Okay, I really love light+fluffy. Those are the stories that keep the world sunny and warm and loving... HOWEVER... I love writing emotional turmoil too much to claim to be anything but dark+gritty. Oops.
Animal companion or found family
Found family 100%. I love little animal companions, but found family is an absolute must for me.
Horror or romance
Horror is a great genre but not really my jam, so we're gonna go with romance.
Hard or soft magic system
Soft magic system. I really like the naturality of a world that doesn't have hard rules and a solid definitive understanding of their magic.
Standalone or series
Series. I often find that I love building these absolutely insane worlds that would be crazy to try to jam into one book.
One project or the juggling act
Juggling act. I need projects I can go to to procrastinate.
One award winner or one bestseller
Each of these have their merits. Awards mean that a panel of ducted people found your book to have themes or content or representation worthy of award. Bestsellers mean that your book reached an absurd amount of people. I'd rather my book reach an insane amount of people please.
Fantasy or sci-fi
I'm gonna have to go with fantasy. Which pains me considering my beloved two-part series is sci-fi, but I really love magic and magical worlds.
Character or setting description
Character most definitely. Settings are fun, but the characters are my main focus.
First or final draft
As much as I love my final-- and published-- draft, I'm going to have to go with first drafts. The first edition is so powerful and important and I feel like we often forget that.
Love triangle in everything or no romantic arcs
Okay, this may be the hardest question yet. Romantic exploration and the lack thereof is so important to me as a writer, so much so that I think I have to go with love triangles.
Constant sandstorm or rainstorm
Rainstorms. The drama. The sound. The fact that everyone is soaked. Too good to pass up on.

Ok, let's go 3, 5, and which fic is the longest (I can't remember what number that is, lol)
Hello, my lovely friend! Thank you so much for sending this!
3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?
Answer for that one here. 🥰
5. What work of yours got more feedback than expected?
I think I have to go with Hotshots' Number Two Fans 😂❤️ It received so many lovely comments which made me SO HAPPY. It's a fic that has some truly silly elements and for people to love it the way that they did was a very joyful experience.
13. What's your longest work of the year?
My 9-1-1 WIP i'll see us through the thick and thin. It's currently sitting at 24K and change and there's still a long way to go. So much that I've decided to divide it into two fics!
Thanks again for playing @fullmoon-94!
This is the ask game if anyone else wants to join in!
7 and 17 please!!
Yay! Thanks for playing!
7. If you use song lyrics, which artist's songs did you pull from the most?
I used song lyrics for the first time with the Those Kinard Kids series. Each fic title is a lyric from Carried Me With You by Brandi Carlile (I LOVE HER) because the whole song fits the vibe of Mel and Tommy pretty much perfectly. (For example, the first line "You're the soul who understands the scars that made me who I am." - it's the two of them exactly.) I like having that thread to tie the series together.
17. Your favorite character to write this year?
Ah, this is hard! I mean, there's Bex, my OneChicago OC who got me started on this fanfic journey, but also, I've had so much fun writing Tommy AND I have to say, I really enjoy writing Chim - I have way too much fun with his voice/humour.
Thanks again for the ask, @judymarch15!

11 for ao3 wrapped :)
Hi! Thanks for sending this!
11. What work took you the longest to write?
Well 😳 probably i'll see us through the thick and thin and Fine is a Four-Letter Word because they aren't done yet 🫣 In terms of finished fics, maybe you carried me with you? Mostly because I kept second guessing whether or not I actually was going to write it 🤣
Thanks again! Here is the ask game if anyone else wants to play!
3 & 6 🫶🫶🫶🫶
Helloooo! Thanks for sending these!
3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?
Ooh, this is a tough one. I'm proud of all of my fics for different reasons - mostly because I actually finished them 😂 but also because they've all pushed me in different ways.
With that in mind, I'm going to cheat and pick two! 🤣Both of these fics took me way outside of my comfort zone and pushed me as a writer, but in completely opposite ways.
Leave a Light On - the only MCD I'll ever write (and only because @sunnywithachanceofbi asked for it for her birthday, lol)
Show Him What You've Got - one of the only really explicit fics I've ever written and possibly the last one (???)
I definitely learned a lot from both of those fics and grew as a writer - they've both kind of flown under the radar compared to some of my other fics, but I'm absolutely proud of them
6. Favorite title you used? Answered this one here!
Thanks again for the ask, @typicalopposite! ❤️
