It's 4 am and I had a thought

So idk if this has been talked about but I feel like in a full-length story four bad things should happen: One caused by Fault One caused by Betrayal One caused by Cunning One caused by Redemption (It should also be noted that these should be for major plot things, not just little things.) These can be done by any character, in any order, and you can use less if it's a short story. Example: villain does very bad but cunning thing that hurts hero/what hero protects, hero's friend betrays hero and sides with villain, hero tries to take on villain but fails due to lack of knowledge/preparation/whatever, hero's friend ultimately helps hero and pays the ultimate price by dying This is really simplistic of course and seems very formulaic, but once you add on the world and characters it can be a very compelling story. And if you change the order and who does what and how, then you've got something interesting. Another step to add could be False-Betrayal (example: the hero's friend intentionally sides with the villain to help the hero from the inside), but adding too many more events could make the story needlessly confusing especially if the things happening are too similar. Anyway, I just thought this would be an interesting writing thing to think about.

Wouldn't mind trying it out sometime when I am out of school and have three days to really write. :)
