I wrote a lot of posts today, and that combined with cleaning the kitchen wore me out. 😂😅 Oops?

Day Nine

Turns out your creative brain can just do whatever it wants. It can come up with an absolutely baller apocalypse AU plot for your current story and there's really not much you can do about it except let it happen. On the plus side, you can still decide to continue on your current project despite the ballerness of the AU so, there's that. I GUESS.

Honestly though I'm annoyed. Why is my brain like this?

(It's because I'm way overwhelmingly familiar with the current subject matter of my serial, so it (my creative brain) wants to be done. I'm on chapter two, but once I get everything set up and get into the stuff I'm interested in, I'll be fine.)

Day Eight

Found out my blog got hidden due to mature content. 💀 So I'm gonna fix that by posting my serial onto AO3 in the Original Work category. I'm hoping it finds its audience, wish me luck!

In case you're curious, it's a web serial about the life of a law enforcement agent in a city where death is as common as resurrection.

So my characters have got to deal with things like, "That one asshole who sits on top of the spires in the Mithril District electrocuting random passers-by" (only illegal because it's annoying) and, "a dude who keeps shooting pickpockets." (Only illegal because you have to be an agent of the Redshore government to pickpocket, okay? Don't mess with the automatic taxation.)

But they also have to deal with things like, "Scrap with soul-destroying/resurrection preventing weapons going down in the Vertical District" and "unlicensed memory mage erasing peoples' minds," and everything in between.

The serial isn't particularly focused, has some elements of slice of life and some that are action-heavy.

Day Six

Feeling good today! I'm currently conquering the blank page, and it is fantastic. That being said, woah boy am I mired in sleepies. 🥱 I got like five hours of sleep last night. 😬 New Year's is always like that.

718 words so far today, and I think I might be able to finish a chapter. I should probably wait to post it. That sucks. We'll see if I have the willpower to hold off--kinda unlikely if I'm being honest. 😅 I made some decisions about bird's eye view plot stuff, and I'm starting to feel excited about what I'm going to share with readers in the future, which has made me actually want to draft so that I can set it all up. As in, the action of drafting is feeling much more rewarding right now.

Woo! Take that, anhedonia!

Plus, there's the fact that my dosage of trileptal got adjusted as of today, so I'm way less fatigued. I want to do all the things.

Right at the moment, though, I need to get my romantic leads meeting each other. One just killed the other in the chapter I'm working on, but that's less of an impediment in this setting than you might imagine. Sound intriguing? Day Five

It's okay, though. I'm semi-stuck, in the sense that I've been too fatigued to write forward recently. This medication (trileptal) is kicking my ass.

I'm sitting down right now, at 10:20 PM CST, to see if I can't get some writing done. This is because I reliably wake up two hours after the time to take my dose has passed, and I'm awake because I haven't taken my med and haven't gone to bed like I normally do at 8:00 PM CST. (Due to it being New Year's Eve; I don't mess with my sleep schedule very often like this.)

I'm hopeful because tomorrow we half my morning dose and I see if that allows me to function. I'm actually pretty excited about it, it'll be nice to see if it makes a difference. In the meantime, I'm awake right now, so I'm going to make the most of it.

Day Three

Writing is so hard right now. I feel like I'm thinking through mud. It's the med I'm taking for my bipolar type 2 (trileptal), which makes me extremely sleepy. But I'm pushing through anyway.

I'm a little ways into the scene I'm writing, but it doesn't feel very far. I think I'm going to need more than one scene to post my first chapter, too, which low key sucks. But I have a specific feeling I'm going for, and I don't think one scene is going to hit it.

I want there to be a strong feeling of romance in my web serial from the first post. The first scene is the main character getting forced into a deal selling other peoples' souls (many, many other peoples' souls) against her will, and it goes wrong and the police of the setting get involved. They free her from her current circumstances, but I feel like that happens in a second scene. This scene is going to be long enough as is with just the deal going wrong. 😂

It's fine, I'll get to where I can post it. I probably won't get there today though. 😩

This web serial is going to be about a law enforcement officer in a city where resurrection is free and automatic, so death is trivialized. It's going to be about her day to day life, and I'm just gonna write what comes to me, which is going to range from cases she works on, to her having days off and exploring the city, and other such stuff. It's going to run the gamut between genres and is just gonna be whatever I feel like writing that day and what feels right for the serial. If you like a tale that explores an interesting setting and all the aspects of the characters I'm writing, you'll like this. If you're looking for a specific consistent experience or a focused narrative, this isn't gonna be for you.

So if that sounds interesting, the serial is going to be named The Age of Redshore. I'll probably post it under #TheAgeofRedshore when I get the first chapter done. You can follow that tag once it exists, or you can follow my blog, whatever you feel like doing. I hope you enjoy it if you end up reading it.

I posted the first chapter of my serial yesterday, and I got comments, which was just so cool. Thank you so much. 😊

It felt fantastic to get writing done, and sharing that writing was the best part.

For those not in the know, I have a book I'm writing called Resonance that is about a terminally ill former cop who reconnects with her beloved ex-husband just in time for him to get accused of murder. But she's engaged to someone who controls her life inside and out, and she's got to navigate that while clearing his name. This is a secondary world fantasy story, and in the secondary world, resurrection is easily available for most people--but not her.

Alongside this, I'm also writing a web serial that's meant to introduce the world and characters before I release that story called The Age of Redshore. It's just this investigator's life as a law enforcement officer in this city where death is trivialized, and it's going to be about whatever comes to mind for me at the time I'm writing and what I think would be good for the series. I'm super excited about it, because I love this world and characters and my wife and I have been working on the setting since we were teens, so for a few decades now. I struggle a lot with telling a focused narrative, so I'm making this division in my head where Resonance can be focused and The Age of Redshore can be my fuckin' around ground. 😂

Anyway, feeling great after all that! I also had an in-home health assessment that might get me more home-based services which would be pretty sweet. I don't find out about that until a few weeks from now, but the ball is rolling. 🎉
