On the pachyderm platform, there is a writing community that does worldbuilding prompt questions every month for writers and their WIPs. This month I am doing it both on Tumblr and on mastodon. The authors of the meme are: @[email protected], @[email protected] and @[email protected]
If you're going to do it, please credit the above people.
Intro Day: Tell two truths and one lie about your WIP
(two truths and a very obvious lie.)
A) It took me a while to come up with a name for the main character and I literally did it at the last minute. (This is a common occurrence for me. It is very hard for me to come up with good names at times.)
B) The first attempts at the basic plot of Lord of the Black Mountain were Very Different, though they had the same idea of "Prince disguises himself as his sister in order to kill the 'evil necromancer' and fails miserably because the 'evil necromancer' is immortal." The cosmology and backstory were very different. (I was going to attempt to reuse a much older setting/backstory that turned out not to work very well, as one might expect of a very angsty setting you came up with when you were a teenager who Feels Too Much About Everything.)
I was also going to have the princess be able to maintain her disguise and have to impersonate her brother while the prince had to continue to impersonate his sister. (Possibly after being confronted in secret by the extremely amused necromancer.) Eventually, I realized that this was not going to work. Also, the backstory was much different than what I settled on.
C) This story is of course meticulously planned out and I have concrete ideas of what's going to happen next.
Here's the prompt card, for anyone interested in playing! Please remember to tag it #WritingWonders
