despite her efforts to sleep, adora remains just as awake, lying in bed with her eyes glued to the ceiling. she can’t stop worrying about catra a foolish thing, perhaps. after all, the bright moon castle had to be the safest place she ever stayed at. no one would try to hurt her, not to mention the accommodations were quite nice.
and yet, that wasn’t why adora worried. she remembered her own first night in the castle chambers despite having a comfy bed all to herself, she couldn’t get herself to relax, instead feeling perpetually stressed in such a quiet, lonely environment.
she and catra haven’t slept in the same room in a very long time. maybe the other had gotten over night troubles entirely during their time apart. but adora knows her mind won’t let her rest until she’s completely sure catra’s okay.
with a sigh, she pushes herself off the bed and exits her room. her feet are bare, steps quiet to risk waking up the other residents. after an awkward interaction with one of the guards, who worried something had happened to get adora out of bed, she finally reaches the room catra’s staying in.
her closed fist hovers in the air for a moment, hesitating. was this okay? the two of them had settled things already, but still adora worried she was overstepping. after so long apart, she feared she didn’t know how to act around her anymore. “catra?” she calls out softly, giving the door a gentle knock. “are you awake?”
