He looks at her with holy eyes, ones with divinity that could save the harshest sinner. Eyes she learned to care for, eyes she raised from despair and sleepless nights, eyes that have since turned on her inside his disastrous mind. And suddenly those eyes blink, and all sights of humanity run away behind them.

6:11, and it smells like sweet pine. That scent straight from a forest, harsh and unadulterated, so real. It’s humid, of course, because the rain had just fell. Bugs sing their song and the sun dances across the clouds, and the temperature rises as the sound of traffic falls. The pond here is still, just a breeze every two minutes making a tiny wake. Anyone could perfect skipping rocks on a day like this, no doubt. But there’s no flat stones, so all that’s available is sitting.

chilled

She groans, sitting up and straddling him. She puts her hands on his chest, and his find their way to her hips again. He looks up at her as she pulls her hair into a messy bun, and he can't help but fall in love with every freckle she has that paints her cheeks.

“You're staring,” she says, and he grins.

“How could I not?” 

She smiles wide, biting her cheek as she tries to look away. He sits up, keeping her on his lap, and kisses her softly. He was chilled by the innocence of her kiss and how her lips locked with his, how her hands pulled his face closer to her and pulled him deeper into the kiss. He realizes he loves her, and that this was the beginning and ending to everything they know.

distance

There's a massive distance between what you're willing to do and what you have to do. That distance, in fact, is so far apart sometimes that the horizon swallows it whole and sets with the sun. But that distance can be as close as a foot, as close as the people across the room, as close as the person next to you with their arm brushing yours. That distance changes with time and with circumstance, and as you grow, so may that distance.
