come to think of it, I think the only Hatchetfield lore I've actively, intentionally ignored for WTDD is LumberAxe the Mad Woodsman. and that's really just because I was already well into writing it before we learned what his deal was, and I could not incorporate Guy Who Kills People That So Much As Kiss In The Woods into my monster-in-the-woods love story. where Paul and Emma kiss in the woods. sorry Little Jerry your presence would've ruined the story skfjfhjjc

I want you to know that I read shadow!Paul in one sitting and: THIS HURT. BUT HURT SO GOOD. Obsessed with everything about this AU! Love that the woods in this Hatchetfield are ✨ extra✨ cursed, and the "sacred animals" for each of the Lords and their sister are such a good pick! Adored Hannah and Paul's friendship, Alice might not have been there for long but their meeting broke my heart, Bill is somehow both a divorcée and widower Emma is going to join him now in widower club, Paul and Becky, Holloway and Emma's bonding about using Black Book, Emma Emma Emma Emma!! Paulkins first meeting was so in-character for them both, Emma trying to find the food he won't just tolerate but actually will love, Paul eagerly waiting for her next visit, them not knowing they're Orpheus and Eurydice coded, saying their goodbyes to hive!Paul...

Wolves are now in my Pokey animals list, along with cicadas (and bees)!

Also now I can't unthink AU where everything is the same but Paul is secretly a werewolf/wolf-shifter. In everyday life it changes virtually nothing for him, he's just taking noise concealing ear buds and perfume he likes everywhere. And takes two days off a month 🌝

it is gonna be really weird to actually finish WTDD. that fic has been such a consistent part of my life creatively for like four and a half years. I've never worked on anything for that long. I've never written anything that IS this long, it's a miracle I've actually stuck with it and it's even GETTING an ending. I'm really proud of it and I hope the ending and final scenes are satisfying. it'll be really weird when it's just. over.
