fandom morality wins! The co founder of liveleak is an anti-lolicon!
Can a single anti please show me the child who was harmed by shipping?
Just--I want to see someone who was hurt by shipping.
Not by trauma that is triggered by a ship--be careful and protect yourself, but not the internet’s fault if you aren’t.
Not by making stupid decisions that were ‘influenced by a ship’--if you’re young enough this is happening, fandom is prolly not where you need to be.
Not by a predator who met them in fandom--don’t blame fandom for bad people doing bad shit.
By shipping.
Because if you’re gonna say this shipping is harming children--I’m gonna call bullshit. And then I’m gonna say--show me where.
Disliking something? Doesn’t make it harmful.
cool, i'm an abuse victim who had to see a bunch of rape fics on a03 because you can't filter them out. fuck you.
I’m deeply sorry to hear that a poltergeist is apparently haunting your home, taking over your computer, loading up fanfics, and forcing you to read them. That sounds like a problem best resolved by calling Ghostbusters, contacting a trusted exorcist, or perhaps alerting Agent Mulder - not something that can be resolved by sending bitchy anonymous messages to strangers on social media. Given I’ve never posted a rape fic on AO3 and I’ve certainly never forced anybody to read one, may I assume this delightful little turd of a message is in response to my contribution on the AO3 post? You know, the one making the rounds about how AO3 is awesome for letting writers actually write things instead of banning everything that isn’t bunnies and sunshine, as you’d apparently have them do?
Fantastic. Kriff you too.
Now that the pleasantries are out of the way, let’s talk about how yes, you actually CAN filter stuff out of searches on AO3. This is highly classified information that can only be found by Googling AO3 Filter Out Warning and looking at the very first hit on the very first page of the results, but I’ll go ahead and let you in on the secret. I mean, sending anon inbox hate is a profound act of courage that requires immense strength and fortitude*, so I’d hate for you to further tax your reserves. (*You rolled a one.)
Observe:http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Ao3+filter+out+warningSee? MAGIC!
The link entitled “searching and browsing on the AO3” has the info you want.
You’re welcome. Now grow a pair and come off anon if you want to talk more shit.
Bless you and your fighting heart. Fighting the good fight for all the Obikin shippers (and honestly for all the people with some sort of common sense).
I might be suffering from Tumblr culture shock, IDK, but some of the shit that gets posted on this hellsite drops my jaw straight to the floor. I’m a fairly oldschool veteran of multiple fandoms based out of everything from Livejournal, to website forums, to AIM chats, to email-based RP groups, and I have never seen this sort of shit before. (Silly shipper fights and general fandom wank, sure. “Go kill yourself you IRL abuser” in response to shipping preference, no way in hell.) Maybe I’m just some ancient relic from fandomhood of yore, IDK, but I’ve actually lost fandom friends to suicide before, and I will come out swinging when I see this crap. I also know good and well what IRL abusers are like, what types of horrific damage they can do, and how their victims are already terrified to come forward for fear their experiences won’t be taken seriously. Lightly tossing abuse allegations at someone for writing fanfic or some other stupid shit like that is damaging as hell to actual victims. It’s crying wolf, and it sends the message that “abuse” = “somebody created fanworks I don’t like” - which means the next time someone who’s an actual victim of actual abuse tries to come forward, they’re that less likely to be taken seriously, because the concept of “abuse” will have lost all real meaning.
also that anti obikin blog is all like 'there are people who do this - here's an example but oh no i cant actually provide blog names or proof'. i hate stupid callout posts but its weird they have a whole blog devoted to saying how awful something is and they dont provide any proof at all or cite legitimate sources/articles/news about what their talking about.
THIS POST RIGHT HERE did an amazing job of providing research explaining the utter lack of any solid evidence linking art (fiction, music, games, etc) to violent crimes, and it also did an excellent job of providing research explaining that people who commit violent acts against others are doing so because something within them is ALREADY broken or malfunctioning, not because they read a dirty fanfic and suddenly decided to live a life of crime.
The Obikin hate blog, by contrast, did an excellent job of providing absolutely nothing other than a temper tantrum and some bullshit accusations. It’s a bully blog, full stop - a manipulative bully blog, to be precise, which is IMHO 100x worse than a plain vanilla troll blog. A garden variety troll would just be all like OMG UR SHIP SUX LOLOLOLOL GROSS UR GAY or some equally ineloquent nonsense. This blog is taking a far more underhanded approach by trying to use guilt and shame to exploit people’s sympathy for abuse victims, plus fearmongering to exploit people’s natural fear of inadvertently being an abuser.
So let’s break this shit down, shall we?
This is what propaganda is - using mentally and emotionally manipulative tactics to provoke a specific, desired reaction out of others. In this case, the person in question in using guilt and fear to try and provoke the reaction of “O NOEZ, OBIKIN IS TEH BAD, I BETTER STOP SHIPPING IT OR ELSE I R TEH BAD TOO.” Which is a giant pile of bantha shit.
As you pointed out, Nonna Mousie, the blog in question has provided NO evidence of anyone actually shipping TPM Anakin with Obi-Wan, let alone evidence of multiple people doing it, and they’ve certainly provided no evidence of anyone in the fandom committing or supporting any IRL crimes, yet they make assertions such as “there are a lot of shippers who do romanticise child sexual abuse and deliberately seek out material where anakin is a child” and “most obikin shippers don’t really care about CSA and protecting kids & survivors.” (both of these are direct quotes from this post, which is also tagged pedophilia.)The specific propaganda technique (other than flat-out lies) being employed here is classic Name-Calling, in which a word or words with an emotionally charged, negative connotation (in this case, “abuse” and “pedophilia” in conjunction with “don’t care” and “deliberately seek out”) are being associated with the target (obikin shipping and shippers) in order to try and emotionally rattle people into renouncing or distancing themselves from the target. It’s a fairly simple yet generally effective manipulation tactic.
This blog is also indulging in a veritable easter basket of good old fashioned logical fallacies. Here are four just off the top of my head from that one post:
* Ad Hominem - talking shit about your opponent to try and make them look bad, and therefore appear untrustworthy or less credible. (Such as calling them pedophiles and abuse enablers to detract from the fact that you’ve got no proof they’ve ever done anything of the sort.) Similar to Name-Calling propaganda technique above.
* False Cause - saying that just because two things exist at once, one caused the other. Such as: obikin fanfic exists, and child sexual abuse exists, therefore fanfic causes child abuse.
* Slippery Slope - saying that if we allow one thing, then it will automatically open the door to an entire avalanche of Very Bad Stuff, when there’s no evidence showing this to be the case. Such as: if we allow fictitious relationships between 19-year-old fictional Padawan Anakin and his equally fictional Jedi buddy Obi-Wan, it will open the door for IRL people to abuse IRL children.
* No True Scotsman - saying that no REAL or GOOD member of [fill-in-the-blank group] would ever do X. Such as no SW fan who REALLY CARES about protecting victims would ever ship Obikin.
Haters can spew all the trash talk they want, and a lot of haters are awfully damn good at it. But they can’t make it your job to pick up their trash. Just picture them as bullies making faces at you through a window. Yeah, you can give them what they want, get upset, stop having fun, and run home crying. Or you can let them sit there on the other side, wasting their time and energy blowing raspberries while you keep on enjoying what you love. I’d highly recommend the second option.
And BTW, @obikinisabuse, consider this a call-out post for your call-out posts. I’m normally content to just sort of roll my eyes at antis, but this is off the damn wall. Stop lying, stop bullying, stop flinging false accusations, and stop using guilt and scare tactics to manipulate people into doing what you want. The only “problematic” behavior going on here is yours.
nonono im actually gonna cry wdym A 15 YEAR OLD AND AN 18 YEAR OLD IS “ICKY” WTFWTFWTFFFFFFFFF
we’re really gonna be out here saying that anyone under 21 has never been horny. at all. and honestly they should go to jail for ever thinking about having sex. okay okay i see how it is
dear lord you’d think these antis have experienced puberty but by the way they talk you really have to wonder…
holy crap! have u seen the latest posts from that obikinisabuse blog?
Oh geez, I just went and looked, and I am so hardcore *facepalm*ing right now. The third post down is patently false in claiming fanfic depicting minors is against the law. (Like, nevermind the fact that 19-year-old Anakin is clearly not a child, even with that ASIDE this person is lying. Written works that are clearly fictitious are NOT illegal, as established in US Supreme Court Case Ashcroft vs Free Speech Coalition.) The second post down, I was just trying not to LOL at. The one at the top…
